3rd time lucky for our break away all previous trips rescheduled due to covid. 2 days before arrival I received a lovely email from the restaurant/bar onsite advising of opening times etc.
On arrival there was clear signage advising how to proceed and covid measures in place. The receptionist on duty was lovely very helpful, polite and happy to go through everything on the park. The touring pitches were really easy to find and clearly numbered. We were on pitch 12 which was one of the bottom corner pitches, all very clean, well presented and maintained.
The park itself was very well maintained through out there’s a fishing lake and golf course as well. The staff in the bar and restaurant were lovely as well very friendly and attentive, both drink and food prices were very reasonable indeed, food was lovely and tasty and a good selection. If you eat in or takeaway it’s served in takeaway boxes, I was a bit dubious at first but everything was still presented well and good portion sizes were given as well.
The park is in a good location for touring and there is a small shop and pub in the village as well.
Overall it’s a lovely site and very friendly staff, only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the pitches beside the road are very noisy, it does advise about road noise on their web page however the traffic does not stop, at various points through out the night I thought trucks were coming through my caravan not good at 3am. It’s not put me off the site however I would try a pitch non road side next time.
Will definitely be back and would still recommend.

From the moment we arrived , when we were met at reception , the people on this site are really lovely , we pitched up on no 1 which is the biggest plot , the others are just wide enough for a van , but does have grass at the side for an awning , we'd booked into the restaurant Friday and Saturday night , the food was wonderful and so reasonably priced as were the drinks , the staff went above and beyond to look after us , unfortunaetly we were on our own mostly as it was so quiet. The toilet blocks were very clean , but again my husband and I were the only ones using them . The only downfall was the touring site is at the front of the site and a busy main road runs past , it was so noisy on the Friday night with heavy trucks passing , my hubby hardly slept Saturday was better , this would be the only reason I may not return , but if you sleep heavy would recommend highly .

Very well kept site, clean and tidy everywhere, pitches lovely and flat. Elsan disposal site was the best we’ve ever encountered. Late arrival arrangements were very organised. We ate in the restaurant which had a new chef, food was really good. Probably waited a little longer than we wanted but it all came very fresh and hot so not really a problem. Children’s portions were very generous. Staff very helpful from reception through to the waiting staff in the restaurant.

First thing here Pearl lake is a lovely park, well kept constant work ongoing to keep the standard that you would expect from Best Parks having stayed at Smithy Park and Westbrook Park previously it’s a given.

The golf course looked well kept and plenty of fishing going on while we where there.

The touring area is a little cramped as an afterthought almost given the site is geared towards statics. It’s approx 15 hard standing pitches with water, electricity, waste water an TV the standard BestParks set up which is far better than most just a little snug. The facilities were clean and tidy nothing lacking. The road noise is advertised on the site as a warning, but to agree with the other reviews you can hear everything passing! It’s extremely loud and was an abrupt awakening on Saturday morning!

The residents were very welcoming contrary to some of the other reviews we have seen here. We bumped into people who live 5 mins down the round at home!

Unfortunately the Lakeside Bar and Bistro took us by surprise we arrived at 7:30 on Friday night to be told no more food is being served because bingo starts at 9, thought nothing more given we had all had a busy day. Saturday night we settled in for a few drinks and moved into the restaurant to watch the England game. 18:50 we asked if we could order food to be told the restaurant was fully booked for food…. There were 4 tables eating at the time with probably another 10 empty. My partner raised this with the staff and was quite rudely told the Manger is in the kitchen covering, no problem we could wait to speak to her. 15 minutes later miraculously there was now space for us to eat! We get that there is staffing shortages etc but a complete lack of respect for paying customers I do not think is a sustainable business model. A real shame as this put cloud over the weekend resulting us in leaving a night early from the park. My partner did explain this to the young lad in reception when handing back the gate key. It was so surprising given every other member of best parks staff has been so helpful in the past. It’s basics of management, look after your staff and they will look after the customers it’s Richard Branson’s trademark!

Sadly we wouldn’t come back to Pearl Lake.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and for acknowledging how lovely the park is and how we are living up to the standards you expect. Your comments on the touring area are constructive and realistic, and comments on other areas of the park - golf, fishing, holiday home owners (residents) are kind and genuine. Your experience of the Lakeside Bar & Bistro is very upsetting for us to hear. I'm sure it is little consolation to you that this year (2021) we have been enormously proud of the Lakeside and the team. The spirit and application of everyone involved through, at times, very difficult circumstances has been tremendously uplifting for the whole park. So your comments raise concerns about we operate and interact with our clientele. We have never encountered any booking issues. There are numerous ways to get in touch - Messenger, Facebook, Email, phone, via reception, or physically calling in to the bar - and we believe that this offers enough opportunity to make a booking. I'm sure you can appreciate that our busiest times are at weekends. Bingo was scheduled for 9pm on Friday, this means we need to set the room up beforehand and so we close the kitchen at 8pm to give us time to do this. Unfortunately, this means we were unable to accommodate you when you arrived at 7.30pm with only 30 minutes of service remaining. Perhaps enquiring about a table for Saturday evening at this point could have helped you plan ahead. Unforeseen circumstances led us to operating on Saturday evening with less staff than we would like, consequently we only booked a limited number of tables enabling us to offer a good experience. This accounts for you seeing the empty tables. Upon hearing your 'challenge' we offered to accommodate you, which you declined. It is certainly not our intent to disrespect anyone on park be they owners, visitors, guests or even other staff members. It is regrettable that you did not enjoy experience. We would have liked the opportunity to respond in person, and at least have the chance for reparation while you were still on park, rather than through social media which always feels a step removed from where we want to be and what we are trying to achieve. We believe that we have the team, the skill and the capacity to deal with any issues as they arrive, given the opportunity. Hopefully you can reflect on your experience, as we certainly will (as we look to remove the possibility of this happening again), and see that the kind, positive words in your review may well influence you to return to Pearl Lake in the future. We do hope so.

We were drawn to the lovely views of the lake and the fishing.Expect more for £27/night (motorhome and small Border terrier) However, touring site is against the main entrance on a very busy road. Tractors travelling constantly with trailers of potatoes full pelt between 5am to 11pm. Office stated that this should be expected in rural Herefordshire!! clattering and banging, only 20 feet away. Site advertised a bar and restaurant but it was closed...only open from Thursday thro Sunday apparently since October!....no reduction for this? Sick of being lured by pretty marketing only to find all you get is an inferior pitch. those with cars couldn't get them off the service road due to a lack of space. The manager gave us a voucher for another site in the group for a night and a £4 fishing pass. I love trees but unfortunately its autumn and we are being bombarded by acorns which wake you throughout the night as virtually 50% of the pitches are under a tree. Took dog for a walk around lake and there is a very short distance for off lead. Dog on lead everywhere, even in wood but I guess that was a minor issue. Shop is 10 mins walk down that busy road.

Response from Glenn Jones, Owner at Pearl Lake Leisure Park
Responded 27 Oct 2020
My apologies for the delay in responding to your review. Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay at Pearl Lake. We are quite distressed that you feel so many things were not right for you. Some are in our control, some not, but I will try to address all of your points and at least you might take some comfort that we are listening to you and trying to improve. The lovely views of the lake are absolutely genuine and we believe are representative of the park and the quality of what is on offer. We also believe that is is right to showcase the best that we have to attract visitors to the park. This is not 'pretty marketing' just straight forward photography and we are saddened that you feel sick of being lured in such a way. It is certainly not our intention to attract anyone under false pretences and unreservedly apologise if you feel we have done such a thing. Having said that, there is no getting away from the fact that the touring area is close to the road which, at times, can be very busy - especially during potato season. We know how disruptive and disappointing it is when you have planned a well-earned relaxing break only to have it spoilt in such a manner. However, although we acknowledge your discomfort and have offered you a voucher to stay at one of our other parks that is perhaps more suited to you, we clearly state on our website the proximity of the road and the noise that can be caused by it. This website statement is certainly not pretty marketing and is there to give visitors all the information before they book to help make an informed decision. We do have a bar and restaurant on park and we have battled throughout the year trying to keep it open during a pandemic. This has been an enormous challenge trying to keep a business going and keep everyone happy. Again, the website suggests checking the opening hours for the dates you are due to be on park. We agree that some of the touring pitches are not large enough for a touring caravan and a vehicle and also that there are trees overhanging some of the pitches. We offer additional parking space for vehicles if you cannot fit it on your pitch. As you clearly state, it is Autumn and obviously things are falling from the trees. There is always a balance in maintaining a rural site where we want to keep as much of the natural habitat as possible to enrich your experience. As the trees offer such beauty and especially some welcome shade on hot days, when you find they are spoiling your stay we will always, if at all possible, relocate you to another pitch. Lastly, the dog walks. We have two off lead areas on park - one in the woodland and another enclosed run on the recreation field. The off lead area in the woodland is short and it would be great to have all the woodland available to off-lead walking - fantastic for the dogs. The decision to limit this is based on trying to keep most of the people happy most of the time and, unfortunately, not all our visitors are dog lovers so a balance has to be found. I hope I have at least explained the reasoning to your issues. We really do want our visitors to enjoy their time with us and take it very personally when they are upset. We hope that you take the offer of another stay at one of our other parks as we believe that they will offer a different experience to your stay at Pearl Lake.

My wife organised a fishing break for myself and her at the Stables cottage at Pearl Lake, it is not cheap at £860 for one week, but not being very mobile nowdays and being told that i could drive upto my swim made it sound ideal. Well we have been well and truly ripped off by the owners of this place, who blatently sold us the dream holiday knowing they could not deliver. The cottage was ordinary if i was being generous, but faults like smashed kitchen cupboard door, a pair of underpants left in the bedroom, shabby shower with black between the tiles, wardrobe door handle that kept on falling off and Velux blinds that do not work did not start the holiday very well, but i could put up with that. The fishing the reason my wife booked us in here i could not put up with. There has been a problem with this lake for a couple of years with phosphates, causing horrendous weed growth below and on the surface making the lake unfishable, and the owners know this, but they were still happy to book us in for a fishing break. Static caravan owners knew this as well and told us not to bother trying, many of whoom gave advice on local lakes to go to. You the owners cannot hide behind this being a spring fed lake blah blah blah, you cannot carry on listing your site as a fishing venue because sadly it'not. Until i have taken legal advice i cannot say anymore about the legalities of your site, which would still attract visitors even if you played down the fishing side of things, but to sell a fishing break with no fishing and ruining my wifes 60th birthday present to me (which we cut short) was disgraceful.

Response from Glenn Jones, Owner at Pearl Lake Leisure Park
Responded 10 Aug 2022
Firstly, we must apologise for taking so long to reply to you. Your review slipped through the notifications, and we have only just seen it. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post this review. I am sorry that you were so disappointed with your stay at Pearl Lake. We do not like to hear of anyone not enjoying their time with us, but especially when it is such a special occasion. However, with your comments of the park and of you being “well and truly ripped off” and us “blatantly selling you a dream holiday that we knew we could not deliver” I believe it is right for us to respond strongly where necessary while also being understanding of your comments and sympathetic to your experience. Our booking system shows that the cost of your holiday was significantly less than the £860 you stated. As also discussed at the time of your departure, a large amount of that cost was for bait you personally purchased for fishing on the lake but, as our Fishing and Park Rules state, bait should not be used in such large quantities. As you chose not to tell us of your displeasure at the accommodation during your stay, we can only apologise now for the condition of the cottage. For us, obviously there has been a system failure and we will strive to improve. The cottage is a traditional cottage and we do try to keep it on theme with that. However, this certainly does not excuse the condition / issues you describe. We always ask that you highlight any issues with the office during your stay so that our team can rectify them promptly. We believe this is a much more positive way of enabling us to help you, the customer, rather than you post such negative comments online after you depart. As mentioned on the website, we do not advertise ourselves as a fishing lake, rather a lake which can be fished. We are certainly not hiding behind the fact that this is a natural lake. As a glorious spectacle, and centrepiece of the park, the appearance and quality of the lake is very important to us. We understand it is a draw for anglers and nature lovers alike and feel that the information on the website is both transparent and accurate. As a natural lake, with exceptional water quality, the flora, fauna and weed growth is entirely in the hands of Mother Nature and as an eco-friendly park we believe it is important not to interfere with that too much. We do make it very clear (on our website) that Pearl Lake is a lake you can fish rather than a dedicated stocked fishing water. The beauty of the lake is a central focus of the park for all to enjoy and not purely for the purposes of fishing. We have been working incredibly hard on improving the condition of the lake weed since the beginning of the 2022 season. A quick-fix approach may help on one side but be massively detrimental on the other. The natural balance of the environment is paramount and every action we take could upset the eco-system. When such a sensitive approach is required to any intervention, we trust you appreciate this takes time in both planning and execution. The website does showcase images of the lake that were taken this year and were an accurate representation of the lake at that time. However, we acknowledge that, as the season progresses the weed overgrowth can become more prevalent as we move toward the summer months, as indeed it is on many other local natural lakes. This will clear significantly, naturally, as we move into autumn and the colder weather. There are plenty of local fisheries nearby that offer the option of catching fish without the need for craft and guile. This style of fishing is becoming much more common and more suited to anglers to whom the catch is more important that the experience. A game of football is still football, even if there are no goals scored. If you do want to visit us in the future with the intention of fishing the lake we suggest that you speak to the office directly and we can update you on the condition of the water at that time. We feel it is a shame that you have focused entirely upon the fishing and have failed to mention any of the other excellent facilities that Pearl Lake has to offer - a peaceful and relaxing environment, as a base to explore beautiful rural Herefordshire , maybe play a round or two of golf and enjoy a drink and meal in the restaurant - and for which we regularly receive 5 star reviews and outstandingly positive feedback.

Stayed in a static caravan from 3rd September 2022. Was due to stay for 7 nights but returned on Thursday as i was ill. Lovely site with lake for fishing, golf course and bowling green. The caravan was very nice with decking, table and chairs. We had not been to Herefordshire before, and the site is central for all the tourist spots not too far away. What was disappointing was the fact the bar didn't open every day. The Bistro didn't open at all. We also picked this site do to having a restaurant so we could walk and have a meal at night without having to drive and one of us having to not have alcohol. When we booked some time ago, they told us there is also a restaurant in the village and that wasn't open either. They dp need to sort out communications with the reception and maintenance team when you report a problem. Not sure if we would visit again

Pearl Lake is a very well kept country caravan park. It is a peaceful place and the rental caravans are presented like a five star hotel. It was a lovely surprise when we walked in. Shobdon is convenient for visiting many tourist attractions although there are many walks around the resort, which includes their own well stocked fishing lake. There is a convenient village shop close by which opens long hours. We spent a lovely week there and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Gated entrance so very safe.
Nice neat grassed areas.
Nice facilities such as grassed areas, golf, lake etc.
Touring area was very small with a lot of pitches in a small space giving little room to maneuver.
Pitch right by hedge next to busy main road so very noisy.
The pitch cost at this site was costly compared to others we have stayed in.
There is an on Site bar/restaurant but food was not great ( not much choice, a little expensive, undercooked chips and dry tasteless veggie burger.
Entertain some night in the bar - bingo etc

We are just coming to the end of a fortnights stay here and we have lobed every minute. The staff are friendly and professional. There is a clubhouse/ bistro where the beer is good and the food is delicious and plentiful. The lake is beautiful and good for fishing. We didn't fish but plenty did. There is a golf course and a bowling green so plenty to do. The pitches are not huge but big enough and very level. Fully serviced too. The showers are consrant and hot. Toilets and showers very clean and well maintained. There is a washing up area and a dog shower to. No site shop but a village shop in walking distance. Leominster is just 5 miles away with restaurants, supermarkets, pubs and shops. Hereford is just 15 miles away. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. There is road noise but it didnt bother us at all. We would recommend this site to anyone. Cant wait to return.

Hello, We have 2 children's play parks on site. One with a set of swings and climbing frame, another with a small zipwire and small bike track. We also have a playing field for the likes of football. Children are also welcome to ride their bikes around park, as long as they are accompanied by an adult at all times. I hope this has answered your question.

Hello, My apologies for the delay replying to your question. The golf is charged per day (as many rounds as you like) at £8.00 per person. There is no need to book tee times, just pay in reception before you play. It's a cracking little course, we hope you enjoy playing.

It’s reasonable and included in the price of the pitch so nothing extra to pay which is unusual for caravan parks.
