Spent 2 nights here and wished we could have stayed for 3 or more! The view is simply incredible and, while it's a very steep drive in low 4x4 to the lodge on the plateau, it is totally worth it. We did the rhino tracking...More
An incredible place with views to die for. The rooms were pleasant. The staff were absolutely fantastic and we loved the food too. We went Elephant tracking with Ernest and Joseph, who were brilliant, friendly and informative. They showed us so many things, besides the...More
There were a few things to like and dislike about this lodge. The room was of sufficient size, however well in need of a refit. The service was generally good, however at other times odd, indifferent and unfriendly. The food and wine were respectable. We...More
Wow - what a location!!! and the accommodation and food is pretty good too! Our only slight criticism was that the rooms were beginning to show signs that they needed a little TLC. The loo cistern was constantly leaking into the pan and therefore into...More
We were only able to get one night accommodation at this lodge - it gets very booked up in high season! We stayed in a family bungalow with the most amazing views from the high vantage point... we enjoyed similar views from our sun lounger...More

you are discouraged from wandering away from the lodge because of potential danger but there is nothing to stop you. You will be told that lions have been seen very close by. The lodge prefer you to take one of their trips. We opted for the Rhino walk which to be honest was a bit disappointing. When we visited in January there had been a drought lasting several years and most of the wildlife has moved or died. There are Rhino there and indeed we found one but the extent of the walk was no more than 30 metres from the truck to the viewing point where a Rhino was stood down below. My first ever Rhino and a wonderful sight but I went on to see more in Etosha and it didn't cost me £250 for two of us to see one either. If the money goes to conservation fair enough but I have my doubts. Grootberg was to me worth a visit but I wouldn't go back for a second one.
