Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We stayed at this lovely pub for two nights while visiting the New Forest. We were welcomed by two ponies in the car park and then shown to our courtyard room by the warm and friendly landlord. The room was well equipped, had a sparkling bathroom and best of all, a fridge! A good quality bed and a silent locality meant we slept well. Both our breakfasts were extremely good but a particular commendation for the scrambled eggs and home cooked ham. The landlord was very helpful in suggesting walks and excursions suitable for the rather wet weather were unfortunate enough to experience. The friendly buzz in the pub in the evenings with a roaring fire and a great choice of food made our stay there very special and extremely good value too. Lots of the normal types of pub food available but some excellent home cooked food as well. My husband really enjoyed the faggots but lots of other unusual options as well. Definitely a good base for exploring the area. We had a really lovely time. This is a dog friendly pub but we didn't meet any badly behaved dogs and they were obviously enjoying the walking opportunities too!

We visited the Turfcutters numerous times whilst staying in a nearby cottage. Every meal was superb, excellent service and a real pleasure to visit what I call a proper pub, not the so called Gastro but just a real pub serving very good food , with punters still sitting and standing around the bar area.

We visited this pub twice during our 4 day stay in the area. The staff are friendly and efficient. The pub is kitted out with a nice mix of seating and an eclectic selection of paraphernalia on the walls. The garden is less manicured but large and great for a summer’s evening. The menu offers a selection of obviously home cooked dishes which include good quality produce. A Mr Whippy is a great way to finish the meal (there are other options too) . I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this pub if you’re in the area.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from 21-23 July 2023, as we were due to attend a close relatives funeral. Unfortunately, there were a few issues during our stay. When we arrived, the staff seemed preoccupied with an internal meeting and did not acknowledge us. When prompted by us, a new, young employee kindly showed us to our room but was unable to answer our questions about breakfast times. There were menus in the room, but no advice as to when mealtimes were, i.e breakfast. Upon entering our room, we noticed stained sheets and an unusable fridge/freezer that was filled with water and had a dead fly inside. As we were rushed all weekend, we did not have time to address these issues during our stay. This meant these utilities were unusable. We understand they had a busy wedding booked that weekend, but felt disappointed by the lack of customer service and cleanliness, which we don't believe aligned with the room rate. We hope this feedback will be helpful from someone with a hospitality background, like myself. Best regards.

We were touring in our motor home and came across this pub in a touring app. There’s room for three motor homes at the back. They served the usual beer as well as three good ales, we were too late to order food, they were fully booked but those eating seemed to love the food. We ate in the motor home but had a few beers in the pub. Great atmosphere, great service and clearly a very popular local pub. Plenty of car parking and they are very dog friendly. Loads of space outside as well as a covered area and within 2 minutes you are walking in the new forest.

Stayed here for 3 nights over the May Bank Holiday. The pub is very friendly and I was greeted and checked in to Rabbit room - the rooms are in a separate converted thatched barn. My room was great - homely and cosy with a stone floor with rugs, and a little kitchenette area with fridge, sink, crockery, kettle and microwave. I was also provided with teas, coffee, hot chocolate and packets of biscuits. There was a bathroom with shower, towels etc. The room also had a couple of chairs and a tv and a little gated paved area at the front with a table and chairs - they will deliver food to your room so you can sit outside your room and eat if you like. Breakfasts were very nice - cereals, fresh local strawberries, yoghurt, toast and choice of hot food - on my last morning I had ham and eggs and it was delicious! Simon the landlord was excellent and works so hard - I was joined by my family for breakfast on the Sunday and he very kindly provided everyone with toast. Thank you Simon for your hospitality. Highly recommended.

We went to the country pub on Easter Sunday meeting up as a surprise visit with our family who were staying in the New forest. We were lucky enough to sit in the garden which was great as we had two dogs and young children. We all had a fantastic Sunday lunch. Well cooked and plenty of it. Six vegetables loads of flavoursome tender meat and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Great value. The staff were very helpful and cheerful and the landlord was very helpful with our booking. We will certainly return very soon. Best Sunday lunch out for a very long time perfect. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.
