Guests have called out Occidental Jandia Mar for its commendable family-friendly amenities, like the heated pools and water park. Despite its scenic hilltop setting, some guests find the location a bit isolated and the steep access challenging. While the hotel's cleanliness receives positive comments, noise disturbances and extra charges have led to mixed reviews on value and atmosphere.
The spacious rooms are a plus, yet they're often criticized for their outdated style and lack of soundproofing. Service experiences vary, with praise for staff friendliness tempered by reports of slow service.

Detailed Reviews

If you are looking for a review about the food, cleanliness, rooms, pools, entertainment, steep hill or the hard working staff, please look at all the other reviews.
Accessibility: A high majority of areas are accessed via ramps with many lifts throughout. Way finder signage doesn’t assist in directing to routes via ramps. But note most areas do have stairs for access as the property is built into the side of the hill (see all other reviews about the hill) some external staircases don’t have handrails. At the main heated pool the shallow end starts at 40cm and I did not see bannister or seat lift into either outside pools. Outside main restaurant there is a dedicated area for pram parking. There are disabled toilets located in the main areas and baby changing stations in most disabled toilets. I’d like to thank and recognise the reception team for making changes to our rooms (grandparents with mobility challenges) to a more suitable/ accessible room near a lift.
Safety: fire extinguishers have inspection tags and are found easily through the complex. Rooms have smoke detectors/sounders. Lifts also have 3rd party inspection stickers. Pool areas has lifeguards (at pool opening hours only) and lifebouy/ring stations throughout. Play park has rubberised surfacing, however splash park doesn’t. The rubberised tiles in the play park are loose and there are gaps between, leading to our little nipper tripping. Balcony in room we stayed had wooden slats to heighten it. In the bath there are no grab handles or bath mat. Restaurant has hand sanitizer station and food allergens information on a touch screen tv at entrance (on the same device you can rate what you’ve eaten). Shuttle bus (scheduled service from hotel) we took did not have lap belts and I didn’t see break glass hammers. During stay, hotel conducted a fire drill for staff and notified residents 24hrs prior via a letter under the door.
Connectivity: WiFi is excellent in majority of areas and restaurants. Internet speed is 7.5Mbps (at time of visit) great for streaming video content. Good 4G phone signal throughout. Please note that you’ll need to bring your Uk 3pin plug device charger and European socket adapter, as there are no USB wall socket outlets. TV in room has a variety of international channels including English speaking BBC 1, BBC news and Film 4.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for a week over Christmas and had a wonderful relaxed stay here. We travelled via Jet2 holidays and the seamless coach transfer took around an hour, we found the journey pretty interesting and were delighted when we pulled up at our hotel as its modern, clean and spacious.
The best decisions we made on our trip were :
1) upgrading to Occidental Plus as you get a seaview room, upgraded drinks (the premium cocktails from the piano bar were great) and the use of a more intimate dining room for breakfast and evening meal and
2) using the free bus to Morro Jable (10 mins) to once go to the fantastic beach and twice to explore the town and harbour (not much at the harbour but it was a pleasant walk in the sun).
The pool area is nice and we would recommend a walk down to the beach at the bottom of the hill (quicker to exit via a gate at the back of the hotel), the golden beach goes on for miles and you will find the intermittent cafes/toilets at certain entry points.
I would say this is more of a quiet hotel/destination for families or couples as there isn't too much of a nightlife outside of the hotel.
Excursions are fairly limited from the south of the island but we would strongly recommend Oasis wildlife park (the pick up is from the slightly posher sister hotel across the road) for a full day out with an amazing array of animals, a lovely place to visit.
All the staff we encountered were pleasant and professional, the cleanliness was great and i wouldn't hesitate to return next time i want a chilled out holiday.

After reading some of the reviews before we left we were a bit apprehensive. After staying for 7 nights let me tell you the Occidental jandia mar is a lovely family friendly hotel. All the staff were wonderful with my two boys aged 6 and 7 months and my boys loved them. Special mentions for Rachel (animation team) who was always a bundle of energy and excelled in every thing. My son frankie really liked her and also Merry in the buffet restaurant who as her name suggests always had a warm smile and nothing was too much bother. Pools were clean ,one warm one cold. Perfect for cooling off after hot day in sun. Not too crowded and no bother getting beds always some available. Food in buffet for evening was excellent. Always about 7 main options with 2 type of soups, lots of desert choice. Breakfast was also to high standards with plenty of hot and cold options available. Entertainment was great, Tina Turner tribute was fantastic as was the 3 Male singers I didn't catch the name. Animation shows were also brilliant and they put alot of hard work and effort to their shows. The hotel is on a steep hill, there is a free shuttle bus to and from the beach so not too bad and taxi costs 2.30 euros so cant complain. Cant believe some of the reviews people put on here?? What are they expecting from an all inclusive?? All in all me and my family loved our week here and definitely will be rebooking again later in year. Fabulous hotel, fabulous holiday.

Having just literally left the hotel to make our way back to the airport I am left with a 10 hour journey to arrive home of which 6 hours of this involve me driving in snow ridden and treacherous driving conditions.
This room is pleasant until the kitchen is open where the extraction units are activated and can only be described as the noise you get when shooting down the runway in a plane about to take off.
This stays on until 22:26pm or within a few mins each night and WILL stop you getting to sleep. I accepted this as the kitchen must be used daily and so there was only 3 occasions I desired to try and sleep before this time on my holiday. However be aware the extraction units also start at 4am (a small hoover like sounding one only) with the main ones kicking off again around 7am daily so don’t expect a lie in ever.
On the last night the extraction u it’s were not powered down and upon complaining to the night porter at around midnight was advised someone was looking into it. Again at 1am I complained and was advised they cannot get them to turn off until the kitchen staff come in again at 3:30am! No other solution was offered and the management apparently were not answering their phones!
At 4am I spoke again with the night shift to ask why it was still ongoing. Having had no sleep by this point I wasn’t in the best of form. I was advised there was a technical issue and they could not get them to turn off at all. The lifts had broken the day before (loss of power) and been quickly repaired so I assume the power was needing left on for the lifts to operate??? I was now offered an exchange of rooms. With only 3 hours to go before I left I was now worried that I would not awake in time and that the couple with us would then not know where we were due to a middle of the night room switch so I declined and decided to put up with another couple of hours of it until it was time to get up.
Upon raising the issue after breakfast this morning I was advised there was 1000 things they could do to resolve this however they could not offer anything I suggested (a refund of the rate of one nights stay, the room bill being wiped (approx the cost of one nights stay) I asked what they could offer. The only option was a room swap!!! I was checking out right then! The guest relations manager AND the hotel management couldn’t be less interested or get away any faster from the situation.
I would not recommend this hotel after the customer service experience or lack of. Otherwise on the whole the 4 star hotel was a mediocre 3 by proper standards. The minibar was not stocked at all from day one even though this was a paid for upgrade. Our room was made up for some other guests with a personalised note left for THEM.
I can however recommend the restaurant on floor 3 which even though drastically understaffed has pleasant and attentive waiters and chefs throughout. Abdul was the one member of staff who really shone above them all and he will/should go far. The management could learn a lot from this gentleman when it comes to customer service, attention to detail and problem solving.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your comments about your recent stay at our Occidental Jandía Mar Hotel. We have read your comments on the room you stayed in and sincerely regret your disappointment. We do our best to ensure that the noise level always stays within reasonable limits so that our guests are not disturbed by traffic noise from outside. Sometimes it is impossible to guarantee this because there will be moments in the early morning when, for example, traffic noise can be heard from local community services. We would like to take this opportunity and ask you to contact Guest Experience Management on your next stay. We would have liked to change your room. Thanks again for making us your preferred hotel on this occasion. We look forward to serving you again in the near future. Kind regards, Guest Experience

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in food was awful as were the drinks, if you wanted a bottle of water you had to pay for it, only one working toaster for breakfast you can imagine the queuing no ice creams for kids unless u went in restaurant in which case you had to dress properly & staff even searched handbags etc to make sure you weren't taking food out with you, only good thing about it was I lost weight not something you expect on an all inclusive, excellent entertainment staff I will give them that, we were told that it was only a 10 minute walk to the beach what they didn't say was that it was on top of a very long and steep hill, luckily the taxis were cheap.
On the day we checked out my daughter realised she had left her earrings in the room this was within 10/15 mins of checking out and asked if she could go and get them she was refused and told the cleaner would bring them down when she cleaned the room needless to say we never saw them again. Avoid this hotel I will never go to feurtoventura again purely because of this experience we felt totally ripped off

This hotel was great for chilling out and of you wanted to join in with the entertainment team they were fantastic from yoga to water volley or aloe Vera demonstrations there was something everyone would enjoy. The beds were comfy and cleaned as should be yes there not up to date modern but if that's what you want pay more and go for a luxury hotel. The food was standard sometimes I could find things I would enjoy and other times not but there was always a good variety and always chips and pasta available. Breakfast and lunch I always found something from pancakes or a large variety of salad at lunch. I loved you could help yourself to wine or cava or beer or sangria at anytime and even take a bottle to your table in the restaurant The sun beds were fine the pools were warm and was plenty to do round the resort we didn't use the bus from the hotel but we walked down the hill and got taxi back which were very good price. The entertainment was reasonable but if you wanted amazing shows you would book to go to a show not expect amazing shows in an all inclusive hotel. You can pay for the plus option we didn't as it was €20 euros per person per day and we was happy with the standard alcohol and restaurant but if you like branded alcohol it was a nice option to be able to add on if you wanted to with other added extras too. We stayed in block 8 and I would of liked a coffee machine closer to our room so we could of got a coffee in the morning from the pool bar that was closest to us this didn't open till 12 but if they could of had a coffee machine available there 24.7 that would of make a big difference for people staying that end of the hotel. All in all lovely holiday for the price you pay.

We were greatly disappointed by our experience at this hotel, for many reasons! Sadly it put a dampner on our first family holiday and to make matters worse, after making a complaint the hotel did not address the issues, but instead denied the events and made out they didn’t happen.
Firstly we were given the keys to an occupied room, thankfully we bumped into the lady who was in the room and she too spoke to the reception team also - the hotel have tried to claim the room was being cleaned!
The food was horrendous! Undercooked, lack of option and the snack bar is presented covered in fly’s!
We met a few friendly staff members, however on the whole they were rude and unhelpful!
For a “family friendly” hotel we expected quite a rigorous cleaning process in the main areas of the hotel however on 2 occasions, the glasses we had used the night before were still outside the following day - once till 9am and the other till 3pm!
A staff member also smashed one of our glasses and this remained on the floor also till 3pm.
Advertisement for this hotel states it is a beach front location but I can assure you that’s a very misleading statement. To get to the beach or the few shops that are there, you have to walk down a huge hill. This is not ideal for a young family so we didn’t leave the hotel unless we were getting a taxi into the main town.
The coffee machine were out of order on most days and the bar staff refused to serve free coffee, even on all inclusive, unless you were premium inclusive.
This is just a snippet of the holiday and sadly now the hotel have denied the above events we have felt the need to make this review. We would hate for anyone else to have this experience!

Responded 15 Aug 2022
Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your impressions of your stay with us. Firstly, we are sorry to hear that the food was not to your liking and that you did not find enough variety. We try to make the food as varied as possible as the buffet restaurant has a different theme every day and the food is different every day with the exception of some dishes that always remain on our menus such as rice, fries or salads, which are very popular with our guests. Regarding the cleanliness of different common areas we are surprised to read your comment, as this is one of our priorities in all areas and we carry out an exhaustive cleaning and disinfection plan. We will take your comment very seriously and apologise if this feeling was repeated several times during your stay. Regarding the location of the hotel, on our website you will find detailed information about the type of room, the different services included and the location of the places of interest about which our guests ask us the most. In this case it is detailed that the beach of Jandia is 600 metres away, so we are surprised by your comment. For future bookings, please contact the hotel you are interested in booking by telephone and we will provide you with as detailed information as possible about all the services and places you are interested in. On the other hand, regarding the incident in the room you mentioned, we do not have enough information to clarify the facts, so we will contact the other departments to find out what happened and try to prevent it from happening again. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused in this regard. We are truly sorry to hear that you left your first family holiday with the feelings you mentioned and we apologise on behalf of the entire hotel staff. We hope that you will give us a second chance and that we can live up to your expectations, Best regards, Management team Occidental Jandía Resort

Visited on 26th of March for 11 nights having booked a sea view room I was rather looking forward to my holiday. I was presented with my key proceeded to my room no help was forth coming has we were on what 3rd floor no lifts climb 48 steps. my sea view room i was presented with a blank wall if I stood up I could sea the sea but was not prepared to stand up all my holiday to see the sea so proceeded to reception not prepared to put up with this. Following morning met with guest director or manager Katherina Kaczmarczyk who was top notch at sorting this out we got a better room with terrace and sea view. So just to say if you are at all infirm avoid this hotel as most rooms are in blocks with no lifts and on a hill side.
My other complaint was we were all inclusive in the restaurant staff had no idea how to run this as there was always a knife and fork on the tables if it was cereal there was either no bowl or no spoon some people found them self's waiting having cereal on plates. staff needed to have sections to look after.
My whole opinion on this hotel was very clean and well looked after that's my positive

Arrived at 10.15pm for a 1 week honeymoon trip ,check in was greeted by a man who was Absolutely lovely explained we had been upgraded to a deluxe room and he explained late night buffet was open if we required any food after our long trip
The room 405 was spacious and very very clean credit to your room maids I know with myself working in a hotel that maids very rarely get mentioned but these ladies work very hard and also deserve the credit to, Nice touch to have water in the room and thank you for the bottle of wine also this was also a very nice touch.
The sunbed area and pools were also very clean no rubbish around which was nice to see every hotel should follow your example and only allow snacks eaten only in snack bar and not around pool area so this was lovely to see .The puplic toilets were also kept very clean never seen a dirty one yet
Entertainment was great evening show, The variey show and the Showman show was excellent and again we got another bottle of wine to us on our last night so again thank you .
Restaurant was also lovely, lots to choose from. Which was good to see was actually the tomato sauce sachets proper hienz and hp sachets not cheap rubbbish and proper coke out the machine again not the cheap stuff.
We will be back for a one year anniversary thank you so so much for our amazing honeymoon

+1
This is possibly one of the best hotels I have stayed in. I say this due to their massive effort towards recycling, their cleanliness, the divine smell that hits you when you walk into the reception 🥰 and the staff are all lovely, really well mannered and happy to help. On top of that the food was not only extra tasty but there was plenty to choose from and a large dinning area to sit inside and out. The pool snack bar was also really delicious and the man working there every day always said hello to everyone and was on top of any plates left or spillages.
We got it at such a great price I wasn’t expecting much but boy was I wrong!
The room was a great size really spacious, you get complimentary water, natural shampoo, conditioner, hand and body wash. Along with toothpaste, recycled toothbrushes and a razor.
Me and my friend got into a bit of a pickle and got stuck at the harbour with no obvious way out and with the local restaurant trying to take advantage of us being stuck there, we were obviously extremely worried. However I called the hotel, they found our exact location and they had a taxi out to us within 5 mins. I couldn’t be more grateful to them. They didn’t have to do that, in my opinion they went above and beyond.
There is a bit of a massive hill down to the beach but if you don’t fancy it there is a bus that runs into town or the taxi’s are fast and cheap.
We went in November for a long weekend, so there was plenty of sun beds around the pool available. I can’t comment on whether they would be in the height of summer, but they seem to be a lot of them. And plenty of seating in the dining hall and snack bar. They still had their evening entertainment going, even though I assume we came out of season which I was also really impressed with. The piano bar upstairs was also a big hit with us as it was a more quiet environment.
They do have a few cats about that all look really well looked after with their lovely shiny fur and full bellies. On my way up to the room one day. I noticed a small canopy, it had instructions if you wanted to feed the cats on what to do and what not to do which I thought was a great touch.
All in all, I do not have a bad word to say I was impressed from start to finish
