We stayed at Rangala House for two nights in January 2014. Due to a late cancellation by other travellers, we were the only guests in this incredible guest house which shows exceptional attention to detail coupled with a real sense of homeliness. The chef was fantastic - cooking up whatever we wanted with very little notice. It was quite foggy...

Oh what a joy. Sitting in a basket chair drinking gin tonic on the terrace viewing paradise-ish landscape and feeling like an estate owner. Fantastic service and food. Thank you very much – we will be back! Only the frogs should not have been invited – remember to bring your earplugs if you want to sleep.

Rangala House is still our favorite, the best, place to stay in Sri Lanka. It was our 4th Christmas spent there, and possibly the best (if that's possible). The views are spectacular as always, the food is excellent, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, the staff are wonderful. It's paradise for us and our kids.

Rangala House as the name implies is a tastefully decorated, impeccably operated villa for the discerning traveller. It is one of a kind operation often beyond imagination and encounters in the hospitality scene of Sri Lanka. The attention to detail and focus on quality over quantity at Rangala House far supersede your experience in any of the 5-star rated hotels...

Unfortunately, we were only able to only stay for three nights at this wonderful small hotel; we could have quite happily stayed here for at least a week! Rangala house is in a peaceful area on the hillside, overlooking tea plantations in the valley, and numerous tea and jungle covered peaks which tumble into the distance. After spending a day...

This has to be the all-round best place we stayed in Sri Lanka - and was most definitely tops for food and the view. Anthony and his team make everyone most welcome without being at all over-bearing. The garden is a delight and one can while away ages with a camera seeking to catch that key wildlife photo. If you...

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time. Anthony was an excellent host, and the staff were friendly. The meals we had were excellent and the view whilst eating on the terrace cannot be beaten. We had a lovely swim in the pool as the sun was setting - heaven. We could have stayed longer.

We had a wonderful albeit far too short stay at Rangala House on our whistle stop 10-day tour of Sri Lanka with our family in August. The outlook from the veranda is stunning, the rooms impeccable, and the friendly and engaging hospitality extended by host Anthony was well received. By far and away and without a shadow of doubt the...

Had a stunning view - the best I saw on my 2 week stay in Sri Lanka. A beautiful (giant!) garden, full of exotic flowers and a gorgeous pool! A big veranda, really gave us a space to appreciate the 40 mile view. Tea plantations were very close nearby, meaning we could go and appreciate the hard work that goes...

Our family of three stayed here for three nights but we could've easily stayed here for longer. The view is absolutely gorgeous. There are walks you can do through surrounding tree plantations. The pool was a godsend for our swim-loving daughter, 6, and the gardens are beautiful and well kept. Sebastian, the cook, will cater to your dietary needs and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Coming from Kandy , the journey (slightly more than one hour) takes you through Digana, Teldeniya and then left, through Udispattuwa and onto the Duckwari tea estate. At an altitude of just under 1000 metres above sea level, the situation is significantly higher up in the hill country than Kandy (500 metres) and the climate is noticeably cooler and fresher. Rangala House is situated on the edge of the Knuckles Forest Region - now classified as a world heritage site. This area is up-country from Kandy on the North Eastern side. The house faces almost due West on a steep jungly hillside. Spectacular sunsets are common. The view from the verandah is enormous - a 180º panorama from Hantana mountain to the South right round to the Duckwari tea estate and Knuckles Hills to the North and North East. Far down below in the valley, paddy fields give way to further hillsides and, on a clear day, you can even see Bible Rock many miles away. At night the lights of Kandy can be seen twinkling in the far distance. Behind the house, the tea estate rises steeply and is attractively dotted with shade trees and huge igneous boulders - common hill country features. The house is situated on the Teldeniya - Rangala mountain road, about 25 minutes up from Teldeniya. Cars are not often seen, traffic being mainly composed of three wheelers, country buses and estate tractors. The road is mostly in excellent condition up to Rangala House and beyond, but the section through to Corbett’s Gap is impassable to vehicles. ACCOMMODATION There is a large sitting room with double French windows, a stone fireplace and spacious dining area. The LED TV has many satellite channels as well as all the local stations and there is also a DVD player. For music lovers, there is a high quality sound system (classical and jazz CDs available) and a Roland electric piano. Broadband wifi is available in all room and is free of charge. Adjacent to the sitting room there is a western-style kitchen, fully equipped with all mod cons and finished in solid mahogany. Guests are welcome to come and talk to the resident chef - and perhaps pick up some tips on cooking curries Sri Lankan style! ... more   less
