Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Worst experience ever in a Marriot / Renaissance Hotel in 10 years as Platinum. Unfriendly and inflexible by most staff and the management - Lounge - is the worst I have been to with more limited food options and they only told me on arrival no kids allowed. They were uninterested in help with vegetarian dietary requirements (except once) and every day was the same long tiring discussion about breakfast options and meals. They won’t let you have breakfast in the breakfast restaurant as option like all other hotels - do for Platinum… After much back and forth - exhausting when your trying to enjoy a trip I was told only the kids can eat downstairs because they are not allowed in the lounge…..and I missed breakfast twice as a result…..(because kids are too young to eat alone)…..Interesting I tried to talk to the manager over the full 6 days and he was never available. I had a number of other issues but no point going on about that….I just won’t go back….

I used to stay here many many times but will no longer stay here. A very short sighted decision by the hotel to no longer accord breakfast at hotel restaurant to plat members. Plats can now only go to the lounge which has a very small limited and very repetitive menu. Service is still very good but breakfast is very impt to me and this hotel just lost me. I will choose another hotel that accords proper complimentary full breakfast experience to plats.

The location is good and quiet, the infrastructure is perfect and almost new. I stayed in this hotel several times a few years ago but it has changed a lot and the service is very poor! Super lazy management team. Everyone should pay attention to the hotel's charges. I don't think it is intentional, but the management is very chaotic. The turnover pool is open on a limited basis. Not worth staying in this hotel

I highly recommend, great service, clean, 10-15 min walking distance from the metro, very quiet and peaceful. Great views from the rooftop. When we went the pool wasn't open, but you can still go up their and take photos. It's right next to the Chiang Kai-Shek Shilin Residence, you can see it from your room - which is free to enter and walk around the park areas. They also provide complimentary water which you can ask for more if you need it. We tried the Wan Li restaurant - it's beautiful decor, great service, but food was only okay. Room service was also only okay - but it hit the spot getting some American food.

Carrying the Renaissance name, this hotel overall does not live up to the Renaissance standard of posh and hospitality. Staff had trouble speaking English. The cleaning staff and the pool personnel spoke better English and earned the star for this review. The location is not as good as advertised. At least four taxi drivers showed no name recognition to the hotel. The entryway is also not well designed and is unattended most of the time. The front door had markings that looked like vandalism and did not give off a good vibe. There was no human or car traffic most of the time, which is rather different from other Taipei hotels we stayed at. The rooftop pool has a nice view, but the water quality needs to be improved to be on par with other Marriott hotels. The hotel offered amenities marginally comparable to other local hotels of similar caliber, but it falls short since others included lovely breakfast offerings, ease of transportation, and better price performance. The nearby attractions within walking distance are the Shilin night market and the surrounding park. Yet, the small creek next to the walkway immediately outside the hotel gave off unpleasant smell from its dark waters. This hotel also does not cater well to the Bonvoy Elite members. A reason to cultivate loyalty in the Elite member group is that this group and its circle could have higher return probability. Unfortunately, this hotel does not seem to get it and is robotic in their approach.

My wife and I host our wedding reception at this hotel couples weeks ago. We have communicated with the sale department since Sep 2022. Especially, I need to mention Jen. She is the most helpful and energetic sales person I never seen before. I do the hotel business in the US, but the customer service is totally on different level. Jen would confirm every detail with us and proactive on everything, such as replying emails and scheduling team call. My wife and I don’t live in Taiwan, but we still can host the memorable wedding because of her and the catering team (Andy). Also, Berry who is the GM stopped by the banquet to make sure everything is all set and ready to go. I won’t forget how hospitable they are. 😉 Even enough Marriott was founded in the US, but its hospitable sprite is in Taiwan!!!

I’ve traveled to Taiwan times and this is the first time I travel with my toddler boy, and also is the first time travel after Covid . Front staffs are really helpful and fast response . Elbert is really helpful and friendly. He helps us arrange the car to the sight seeing spots . We get the car within 5 mins. Breakfast is good ( compare to other Taiwan hotel ) , but compare to other Renaissance hotel ( Hong Kong , Bangkok, Phuket ) , it is still have a big room to go. Esp the type of choice. The hotel room is clean and in excellent condition, but the room size is a bit small .

Overall it’s a great new property. It’s located in a quiet neighborhood albeit in walking distance to the famous Shihlin Night Market. It’s right opposite to the Shihlin Residence which is also a historical attraction. Elite members do not get full restaurant breakfast in this property which is totally a bummer. I got a pretty good breakfast rate so it’s ok for me. Lounge is the weakest part of the property. It is lack of drinks and snack options. I hope the management can at least offer decent selection of food for loyalty and club guests. The lounge requires reservation and limited time seating but apparently, barely anyone went there… Breakfast in the restaurant is very decent with some Taiwanese local food to choose from. I love the unlimited Häagen-Dazs in Matcha flavor! The room is pretty small among full service Marriotts in Taiwan. However it’s well equipped and didn’t wear down after the wave of staycation. I adore the deep bathtub which is also very comfortable to soak in. Staff members are generally nice and welcoming. They’re helpful to provide guidance for my stay.

Stayed here for two nights as a Bonvoy Titanium on a friends trip. We were in Taipei for 36 hours. While the property was unable to accommodate the Titanium member in a suite, they were willing to grant lounge access for both rooms (4 pax) which we appreciated as we had a short evening at the hotel before departing for dinner engagements. The Renaissance is a beautifully designed hotel with nice rooms and public spaces. Breakfast spread was generous with a good variety,. We enjoyed the juice bar, though the quality of coffee was subpar and the machine was not working on multiple occasions during our two meals. The bed and amenities exceeded brand standards. While the night auditor was unfamiliar with the Bonvoy programme and neglected to offer a choice of welcome amenity, the loyalty manager went out of his way to take ownership for the lapse at breakfast the next day (we didn't press the matter). As an example of the property's good service, they wrote to me post-stay to inform me that the ATM in the lobby had retained my card (I knew this). They were prompt in coordinating with Land Bank to destroy the card. The property is conveniently located to Japanese eateries in the vicinity and a quick walk to the Shilin station. We would not hesitate returning or recommending the Renaissance, especially if it prices under the Sheraton.
