I had read all of the earlier reviews of the lodge, but decided that my wife and I would tough it out nonetheless. We wanted to get off the proverbial beaten path and deep into longhouse territory. I am not goint to say that going was a mistake - I learned a lot and certainly had an interesting lodging experience...

There is something very "Bates Motel" about this place. Had it's heyday in years past. Now it's a rotting hulk in the rainforest with no guests. The rooms were quite nice and we had the whole place to ourselves. Just us and the staff. And their families. Extended families. With lots of screaming kids. There's really nothing to do here....

This resort seems to be on the edge of the world. When you stand (in the cloud of mosquitoes) on your balcony in the early morning and see the fog over the jungle and the rapids, and hear the gibbons calling in the distance, you really do feel that you are in the heart of Borneo. It is delightfully remote....

The Regency Pelagus Resort Sarawak is best described as a location that must be visited, but wouldn’t endear a return. It appears to be lacking support from the agencies that are supposedly entrusted to allow the local indigenous people the opportunity to find paid employment and cease working in the logging industry. The only way to get to Pelagus is by Boat from Kapit which is 126km from Sibu along the Rejang river. We were picked up in Kapit and rapidly went up river but it still took an hour to reach the resort. We were met by what seemed to be all the staff (very friendly) to find the four of...
