From our greeting to departure the staff could not to enough. From booking with Elise you just knew the trip was going to be great, she carefully planned each aspect of or hotel stay making it truly personal and special. Ella was great professional a s helpful on check in. The COVID-19 measures in place are simply brilliant! Full facial recognition technology that takes your temperature and then allows you to go into a sanitised fogging entrance makes you feel so safe making trips like this in such an uncertain time . You will not be disappointed a huge thankyou is all I can say

Returning back to Mottram Hall for a birthday/anniversary break and we were blown away by the warm welcome and gorgeous room when we booked a return treat of a Spa day!

The spa was fairly busy but it was good to see that guests had mutual respect for others and followed the hotels guidelines for hygiene when using the facilities. The outdoor terrace and newly refurbished spa facilities were clean and relaxing with ame space and seating. Most guests observed the polite rule not to leave towels on loungers. The spa lunch was outstanding!!!

Dinner at The Carrington was lovely if not busy (there weren't enough wine menus ours was whisked away mid selection!). Breakfast service was so much improved without the need for gloves and staff observed social distancing and hygiene policies to our appreciation.

Acknowledging guests special occasions is always a brownie point for us, staying in places with heart is always a preference and we were touched by the very thoughtful room decoration and gift.

Thank you Mottram for reminding us that despite the horrific 18mths we've all experienced, you do make every effort to make you guests feel welcome. Thanks again for every effort in super challenging times.

Look forward to coming back!!

I bought a package deal including spa, lunch, dinner and breakfast. The spa is lovely, but it has two large pools and small steam/sauna rooms, so in my opinion it would be better described as a swimming pool with spa facilities rather than a full blown spa. We went on a Friday and we struggled to get a place to sit by the pool. To be fair to the staff, they did give us a sheet on arrival informing guests that they cannot reserve beds and towels would be removed - and they were, so although they are managing the problem, there were still too many people for number of beds. I think it would be a different experience on a weekday. Positives are it was clean, and modern. It did have the luxury feel.

The hotel… well, the communal spaces downstairs are lovely, you can tell they have been redone and flows nicely from the spa (although its quite a walk from one to the other). Beyond the reception/communal spaces it was really disappointing! We had to go up a very narrow staircase, down two long corridors, down another staircase then down another long corridor to reach our room. Our room had hair and mould in the bath. It was a very small bathroom. With dated tiles and sink. It had those old fashioned turn taps.
The bedroom was average, no sofa, just one arm chair, really not what id expect for the price we paid for one night. The staff did put some balloons in our room for my husbands birthday which was a nice touch and needed after the disappointment.

The restaurant in the evening also came with some issues, the lights were constantly flickering, we ask 3 members of staff to adjust them and nothing was done. If you have epilepsy or problem with eyes/ headaches it would have been unbearable. I ordered a steak, which was £30 and asked for it well done and without the sauce. It came with the sauce so I had to send it back. Then when I cut into it, it was medium, so again had to send it back (which I hate doing!) they did send some complimentary fries.

Breakfast was also disappointing I’m afraid. There was no menu to order a eggs benedict etc, which is what I expected from a luxury hotel. It was help yourself and was no different than your standard budget restaurant chain. The potatoes, beans and egg were all stone cold. We had to ask a server after 10 minutes of sitting if we could order hot drinks, she asked what we wanted whilst continuing to spray the table behind us and clean it. Just not the service we expect in this calibre of hotel.

Overall, there are nice aspects, but also some areas that need work (building and service), it is over priced for what you get.

Eventually found the hotel entrance in the pouring rain. Had to go through their decontamination pod. Fine in theory but not in practice. It would not take my temperature and so I had to tell the receptionist on arrival. Huge queue of people waiting to check in all trying to socially distance in cramped surroundings. We then struggled up stairs and through numerous doors to our rooms which whilst quite nicely appointed overlooked the back of the kitchens. I was woken at 6.30 in the morning by lots of crashing and noise!
Went for our treatment. Therapist was wearing a visor but no other form of Ppe. The manager of the spa took her mask off to reassure everyone the fire alarm was just a practice and the spa area itself was an excuse to promote and sell products. My therapist opened one bottle and invited me to smell the contents before replacing it on the shelf.
There are two pools which are beautiful but one was extremely busy with lots of people . We found a quiet corner but none of the loungers had been spaced. At one point we saw four people in the steam room. Luckily we had changed in our rooms as the changing rooms are cramped and poorly laid our. No sign of any sanitiser or spray to wipe down lockers. We were late told they were cleaned once a day.
The food was amazing and we requested a large table away from everyone else which was fine. However at breakfast time it was a case of sit where you like . Again tables were not spaced and when a couple sat next to ours we left. Juice was from a help yourself dispenser. The idea was to push the glass against a lever so to avoid touching it. That was broken.
Lunch was included the next day and whilst the restaurant was very quiet all the tables were close together. One had even been laid up for more than 6 !
To be honest I felt sorry for the staff and having raised our concerns we received an anodyne response stating their misting station negated the need for PPe as it sanitised every thing even phones and belongings. I fail to see how that can happen when my belongings including my phone were in my bag!
One good point though was the food which was wonderful. In fairness the spa is fabulous and in different times it would have been a relaxing and luxurious experience but all I felt was huge relief once I was home.

Stayed here for husbands birthday however was definitely not worth the price i paid. First of all i turned up at reception to a receptionist who didn’t know what service with a smile is. Very moody. I paid for a suite which included a selection of drinks however we were given 1 still and 1 sparkling water. I had to call reception and ask for my selections of drinks. When i booked it did not state they are not doing room service. We were starving so when i asked her if we can order she said no room service due to covid however it would be more safer to have room service rather than people in a restaurant where they cross each other with less than 2 metres between them. We had a baby with us and were not able to go to the restaurant due to him sleeping therefore had to order from just eat without a choice. I also asked the receptionist if our radiators could come on as it was cold in our room and our baby was also cold. She told me that they had set times they came on and didnt even know what times these were. The room wasn’t great for the price i paid either. Very disappointed i expected exceptional service for the price i paid however i got 1 star service. Will not be staying here again. I would appreciate some sort of compensation due to the above reasons.

We will never stay at Mottram Hall again after this weekend. We we a party of 16 consisting of 8 Golfers and 8 Wives this was booked back in November and continuously confirmed and checks to ensure a smooth weekend.
The gentlemen played golf on Saturday and say the course was below average condition.

After the golf game the ladies joined them for a quick drink before check in, upon arrival were met by a huge queue for the bar and waited for almost an hour to be served. We did complain only to be asked what do we expect to be done! The prices between each round were different and when confronted we were told there must have been an error on previous orders.

The check in process was a farce, waiting an absolute age then to be told there was a mix up, we did eventually get our room, again below average smelled damp and had cobwebs hanging from ceiling (as we hadn’t booked it we decided not to complain as we didn’t want the couple who booked it feel bad)and as our meal was booked for 7 pm we wouldn’t have had time. We were told breakfast was at 7:30 when the previous guests we given options.

After a quick turnaround we met up for dinner and advised out table was situated in Spikes Bar which was not acceptable it again was full of men queuing for drinks whilst we were waiting to be served also the televisions were on which is not what you would expect during Dinner. This was a total breach of Covid safety measure as it was impossible fro people to maintain social distance between queuing for a drink and people sitting dining. I felt totally vulnerable throughout the evening.

The meal finally arrived to say it was of poor quality is an understatement, absolutely no thought or planning had been given to this our food was very basic and badly presented. We were asked by another manager if we were happy which we all replied with the issues, she did apologies and gave us a round of drinks complimentary, and arranged fir the ladies to give breakfast at a later serving.

Sunday the ladies were so looking forward to the Spa experience, I have to say it is looking amazing and will be fabulous when it’s finished and all the facilities (steam rooms etc) can be utilised safely. Even this proved to be an issue the booking was made and confirmed the day before, when we arrived there was a mix up and it looked like we may not have been able to have the treatments, we were not given any options or treatments it was full body massage for everyone mine although it was amazing lasted for 40 minutes, we were advised a 40% discount would be in applied due to the mix up. I still managed to pay more than anyone in my party for my treatment.

All in all it was a weekend that I had looked forward to for so long with the year we have all had and to say I couldn’t wait to get home is an understatement, I nor any of my party will be returning, this is such a shame as we have stayed at mottram hall before and thoroughly enjoyed the attention to detail and service.

The drive up to the hotel is beautiful, as is reception but after that it just become such a letdown.

I was really looking forward to a night away and knew that there would be restrictions in place due to covid.

We managed to reserve a suite (Laurence Suite I believe) but this just appeared to be such a mess. Everything about the room just screams ‘tired’ and ‘cluttered’ with so many different styles.

We dined in the champagne bar that night which was reasonable nothing too exciting. We ordered a bottle of wine at £43 a bottle, this was plonked on the table without an ice bucket or without even being poured. If you want to charge premium prices on a average bottle of wine at least put the service in to justify the increase.

We asked to finish off our drinks near one of the fires which we were informed that they had no fluid to do so, another let down.

Our room is situated at the front of the hotel and you can hear everything! I know this is out of the hotels control but noises from guests leaving the hotel at 3am, or people outside smoking it just doesn’t cut it. Paying for a night away you expect a good nights sleep and quite honestly I couldn’t wait to get home.

I wish we did the spa it looked amazing and would have hoped this would have redeemed this stay but I can honestly say our stay was just not in keeping what our expectations.

I do wonder if it was just our room that looked dated and old as the others look lovely but I can hand on heart say I’ve had better nights stays in a premier inn under our circumstance.

We wanted to really enjoy this being our main couple of days away this summer. We kept trying to forgive them for the terribly slow and poor pre-stay service but it didn’t end there. Upon arrival we checked into the spa with a member of staff who seemed completely unaware of what to do, we had a couple of simple questions neither of which she knew the answer to and when we asked where to go for the facilities she didn’t know. Later this day we checked into the hotel, our room was horrible, very small, everything was dirty and neglected. On later inspection we found there was a large rip in the bed sheet, the two mugs were dirty with tea drops on the outside so clearly hadn’t been cleaned and the kettle didn’t work. It didn’t end there though, the window hardly opened and so it was really warm and there was a golf cart moving around with a loud beeping sound at 5am - so much for a relaxing experience. We were still trying to forgive them though and so tried to make use of other facilities: the food in the restaurant seemed nice until we had some raw chicken served to us and although lunch and dinner are supposed to be included they charge for extras and sides and not even an included drink with meals. On check in the receptionist talked about their mixologist at the bar so we thought we’d have a cocktail, and sit outside. We took a seat where 3 nearby staff leaning on a golf cart stood talking ignored us. We got our own cushions out and admired the numerous tables nearby covered in empty bottles and glasses - I’ve seen cleaner Wetherspoons. The cocktails were massively overpriced and not professionally made at all. We still wanted to have a good time. Next day we had massages booked, these were fine and we actually enjoyed them. Then we went to the cafe in the spa where once again I was served a mint tea in a dirty mug by a boy who didn’t know what he was supposed to be doing. We watched as at 3pm his shift ended and he then turned away customer after customer refusing to work beyond his shift. Sadly, this will be our last stay with Champneys and we will never visit their spa again. It’s a 2* experience at best, highly overpriced and their only motivation is to make money, not to provide a good service, trained staff or pleasant surroundings. If you’re looking for a hotel stay, I’d recommend Travelodge as an upgrade to this place. Avoid and recommend to your friends to do the same.

Mottram Hall is currently entirely staffed by disinterested teenagers who don’t know what they are doing.

The brand new spa already had a broken light in the pool, left unfixed, and the private cabanas (£60 to hire) were not cleaned from day to day. By late afternoon, the areas around the pool and spa were covered in hair and dirty footprints and there was no cleaning throughout the day.

Messages between the spa and the spa restaurant were not exchanged. Lunches were delayed. Kits were missing apparels and reception staff were combative and defensive.

I had a spa treatment which mainly consisted of the therapist trying to sell products before, during and after the treatment. It was highly uncomfortable.
She marched me into the shop, post treatment and started pulling products off shelves and when I explained to her that I already had a number of those products, she tried to aggressively sell me alternatives that hadn’t even been used in the treatment.

Late checkouts were agreed, but not logged by the reception staff and so housekeeping entered too early and the new reception staff kept calling to evict us.
Neither the rooms nor the common areas were properly cleaned (see photo) and staircases were filthy with debris and hair.
There was an elderly woman hoovering and cleaning the reception areas AT CHECKOUT TIME on all the days I stayed there. That inefficiency alone is staggering.

Finally, food and drinks were...adequate.
In the “champagne bar” the prices ran to £18 for a cocktail.
I mean, literally, there are bars in London, ranked among the best in the world that wouldn’t charge you that.

Mottram Hall is punching too far above weight.

We booked the overnight spa weekend and were looking forward to a relaxing weekend. We found that Mottram Hall needs to fix two fundamental basics for a spa hotel:

1) There are insufficient loungers in the spa. You walk in and there is nowhere to sit/lie down unless you get there super early or wait in a pool for a lounger to become free and get to it quickly before someone else does. This completely spoils what would otherwise be a lovely relaxing environment.

2) Our bedroom had the hotel's laundry unit outside the window, which is very noisy. We didn't mind during the day as we were in the spa, so when I saw reception about this they said it would stop at 8pm. When we got back from dinner at 11pm and it was still going, another trip to reception and they said it would stop at 11.30pm. It actually kept going all night and we ended up with an awful night's sleep despite using ear plugs. The bedroom also had a thin blind in front of the window so it was really bright in the morning. The basic requirement I want from a hotel room (especially one in a purported luxury hotel) is to be able to get a good night's sleep, which was impossible in this room. I'm amazed they book out room 333 as surely everyone who stays in it must complain.

Furthermore, drinks are ridiculously overpriced. I don't mind paying a big markup for a great restaurant, a great location or great service, but a £10 bottle of wine is £41, which is unjustifiable for this place. The service was just about OK but there were very few, if any, experienced staff - it's all teenagers trying their hardest.

Note that the spa treatments and food were very good, so if they could sort out these basic issues then it could be a great place. We, unfortunately, will not be returning anytime soon.

Hi, I wanted to leave a review regarding our stay over the Easter Bank holiday. For some reason Trip Advisor is not giving me the option to leave a review. I stayed with my family of four from 29.3.24 to 1.4.24 and the staff exceeded our expectations throughout our stay. I would like to mention Sarah the Operations Manager ensured that all our concerns were addressed promptly and efficiently. She made us feel very welcome for our forthcoming visits. I would also like to mention Bubba from Carrington Grill, he displayed outstanding customer service skills and really helped us with dietary requirements etc. my kids absolutely loved him and he was always smiling no matter what the situation. Debbie from the Spa restaurant made us feel like family and again she really went over and beyond to make us feel special and was a delight with children. Subhaan from the Champagne bar was very attentive and made us feel very welcome and even provided bread to our children so they could feed the swan. Such a lovely gesture. Beth from the Soa restaurant also made our stay special by ensuring she checked our order throughly and nothing was too much trouble for her. Lastly I think his name was Joel or Leon , a young man with dark hair at the front desk with Chloe on the 1.4.24 about 5pm was amazing, he really helped us with the children and made our spa experience extra special. Sadie, Chloe and Charlotte , Katie on Reception have always been an asset to the company . Thank you Mrs Pancholi
