Paxos is exquisite, a superlative spot to simply rest, relax and recharge batteries depleted by day to day life. Yet despite its obvious natural attractions and enviable selection of private villas, this island has precious few hotels, so when the opportunity to help create one arose, we could not resist the challenge.

My husband and I had a week in a Simpson Villa with family members then a few days at The Purple Apricot on our own. This is our third trip with Simpson - always to beautiful Paxos - and they continue to impress with exceptional customer service. Special shout to Frances. The Purple Apricot is a simply beautiful boutique hotel and I could not fault it. David and Steph are truly excellent and energetic hosts and our Safari room was spacious, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything we could possibly need. The hotel is very private with gorgeous views and a lovely pool which we had to ourselves every day. Breakfast under the trees was truly memorable, lovely food with beautiful presentation. We will return to The Purple Apricot, one of the best hotels I have stayed in and I have been lucky enough to stay in some of the best hotels in the world.

This is a wonderful hotel with the most wonderful hosts; Lionel and Aline. Words don’t describe how fabulous they were in feeding us, helping us with reservations and generally being 10/10 exceptional people. The hotel is so chilled out, nice large suites, an honesty bar which is always topped up. You don’t get fed after breakfast but Lionel and Aline will always recommend and help you book days out / lunch / evening meals. We had a great time; do not hesitate and just book!

We had the most blissful holiday at The Purple Apricot and were looked after wonderfully by Lionel, Aline and the staff. The breakfasts were a real highlight every day and Lionel was always on hand to help us with our plans for the week. Aline’s baking was a daily treat and we used the fridge in the room to store staples for lunches if we were going out for dinner in the evening.
The Medina Suite was both spacious and comfortable. The Moroccan touches were lovely and mirrored the theming of the outside space.
Absolutely no quibbles, irritations or complaints - as for barking dogs, children and football players, well they were no issue at all.

A glorious position, beautiful pool and delightful staff, but there were enough things to irritate that it took the edge of what should have been a wonderful holiday.
On arrival we were told not to drink or even clean our teeth with the tap water, but that they sold small bottles of water, but that larger bottles were available from the local supermarket in Magazia, a couple of kilometres away. OK, we had a car but this was not a cheap holiday so to put a daily litre of water in each room would have been the leat they could do.
The room itself was huge, but a prize example of form over function. Why is it that when it comes to hotels so many interior designers don't include a dressing table? It drives my wife nuts.
The chesterfield sofa was so low that sitting down meant you were sitting only about 10" (25cm) off the floor. The large central coffee table, covered in fabric, was, as a result, at eye level, but as it was too far away to reach from the sofa, it was useless. The bed, although very comfortable, was set within a 15cm (6") frame which one had to step over to get into our out of bed - not always remembered during the night.
The bedroom may have been large, but the bathroom certainly wasn't. 2 meters square the brochure stated but subtract the shower cubicle which was constructed from block-work, from the dimensions it was certainly clubby - and it was impossible to sit square on the loo.
There was nothing wrong with the breakfast that was served, except for the fact that there was no choice, and having seen the range of fruits in the local supermarket (where, incidentally we discovered that bottled water was only 60 cents a litre so not a great outlay for the hotel where a week's holiday is in the thousands) you would have thought that a small buffet might have not been too much of a stretch. Breakfast, incidentally, is only served outside 6 days a week. The 7th day (a day off for the staff) is brought to your room.
We were lucky in that the other guests were quiet and likeminded, but had there been a few, less considerate people there, I can imagine that this might be a problem as it would be hard to get away from noise, especially should they want to stay up and drink around the pool.

This hotel is situated just outside Gaios .
The hotel is run by David and Steph Cowley who are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is a bother to them.
The hotel has seven bedrooms all individually decorated in a stylish way.
The views from the swimming pool area is spectacular.
Breakfasts are outside under the large olive trees.
It also has an honestly bar which is well stocked with everything you would require.
I would recommend this hotel and I look forward to returning in the near future.

Really high-end but relaxed (bare-foot feel) boutique hotel.
Jus a handful of generously sized suites, each individually interior designed.
Gardens and pool area beautifully laid out and maintained.
The staff could not be more friendly and helpful.
Fabulous place to explore magical Paxos..

We stayed a week at this "hotel" through Simpson Travel.
We wanted a hotel rather than a villa and found there were very few on Paxos. This one has only 7 rooms, we liked the idea of the small scale.
So when you rent a Villa you get privacy, and full self service facilities. When you stay in a hotel that is usually because you don't want 'self service facilities'.
So the accommodation is an in between which judging by the reviews we have read meets most people's expectations and more.
We have never stayed in a Villa, so may be getting this wrong, but a hotel to us should have hotel facilities.
This would be better named a 4 * Bed and Breakfast. The staff are very nice, and there either end of the day to book you restaurant or boat trips etc.
There is no room service, you are sharing a pool location, you can not get lunch or evening meal on site unless you go and purchase the components and make yourself, but keep in mind the kitchen is 1/2 a kitchen, just two rings, and no microwave, so it's not much use other than making tea and pack lunches up...... But I thought I was booking a hotel..

The rooms are clean and well decorated, and there is a safe etc as you would expect.
The bathroom was very basic, again I am looking at this as a hotel. (Stayed in Distant Plains) which is ground floor and you can hear absolutely everything from the room above, down to toilet functions, which is not pleasant when you are trying to go to sleep.
Hmmm. The bed in this room is seriously firm, which you might like.

You can see where this is going, to be fair, we usually stay in 5* hotels. However the rates charged seemed to be about the same as a 5 star.

If you like small group B and B this is the one for you.

My wife and I discovered Simpson Travel on the web by searching for adult-only properties (which seem to be quite rare in the world in general) and decided to try their two properties that billed themselves at adults-only. And of course we wanted to go to Greece. We don't usually book a prearranged trip, and having all the flights, cars, ferries, and such organized for us was nice, I have to say, for a change. Our first of two weeks in Greece with Simpson Travel at the White Orchid was splendid, and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about that property. What we had hoped for and expected - peace and tranquility - was delivered at the White Orchid, and so our expectations were high for our second week at the Purple Apricot.

The afternoon of our arrival at the Purple Apricot, Sunday Sept 13, we noticed a lot of crowd noise (you know, cheers, hollering, etc.) and immediately asked Marco (who was fabulous) what that noise was. He informed us that it was the football pitch just down the hill from the property. It was very loud and easily heard from our room (Safari) and from the pool area. We also noticed a lot of dogs barking nearby, probably just excited by all the crowd noise, we thought. Hmm, not our idea of peace and tranquility at all, and not a very good arrival experience. We went to dinner that first night at one of the restaurants down the hill, near the pitch, and eventually things quieted down when the games ended. We could still hear the dogs barking occasionally when we got home, so we closed the patio doors and turned on the AC so we didn't have to hear them all night and hoping we would not hear them in the morning.

The next morning, Monday, we opened our patio door to what sounded like a hundred excited, screaming, shouting school children. The dogs were going berserk. We promptly asked Marco what all the noise was. He informed us that it was the first day of school. We had no idea that the island's school was a few hundred yards down the hill from our room. This was definitely not our idea of peace and tranquility and I do not know if it would be that for anyone. It is hard to believe all the other reviews about how peaceful and quiet this place is, because we found it not to be. This was the last sound we would have wanted to hear every morning at an adults-only boutique hotel, on a tiny and remote island. I'm sure you can understand the irony. That was the moment we both decided we could not stay at the Purple Apricot and that we had to move immediately to find a quieter environment.

To shorten this part of the story, I will say that the noise of the children got less and less as the week went on, but the dogs were CONSTANT. There are two, maybe three, dogs that seem to bark for no apparent reason more or less on and off ALL DAY LONG. Every time we were at the hotel, we heard them. Unchecked barking dogs are one of the most annoying sounds to us, and we could hardly enjoy being at the property. We cannot imagine who would not be irritated by these animals, and are completely surprised that no other reviews mentions them.

Unfortunately, we had no other Simpson options on Paxos. We did find a very nice villa by another owner on Paxos, but I was reminded by Simpson Travel that they could not refund us for the unused nights at the Purple Apricot since we did indeed had a contract. It's too bad that they could not have made and exception in this case. Also, we appreciate that one villa was apparently available at the Rou Estate on Corfu, but there would be a significant supplement to move there due to the difference in category. I requested that the difference be waived in this case, but unfortunately they told me that would not be possible. I became very frustrated, and felt like Simpson was putting business before the customer. They made it clear that since there was nothing 'wrong' with the property, and that it would be our choice to move and therefore Simpson could not waive any costs. While we can certainly nit-pick several flaws in the property and in the Safari room, after being stuck there for the whole week, what we signed up for was peace and tranquility, and the Purple Apricot absolutely did not deliver on that account. We understand that the location of the property and its proximity to a school, a football pitch, and several unchecked barking dogs is outside the control of Simpson, but taking care of two clients who were obviously distressed is not. A simple gesture of sending a bottle of wine to our room, may have made all the difference. All we received was an email apology “for any disturbances you encountered on your holiday” about a week later.

We certainly did our due diligence on Simpson Travel before we booked, and read every available review on both the properties we stayed at, and it is very surprising that no one mentioned the dogs or the school at the Purple Apricot. I feel obliged to let others know about these noisy and disruptive animals that are easily heard throughout the property, at least the week we were there, and also to let folks know that the school and football pitch is just down the hill within earshot. I also feel obligated to let others know about Simpson's business practices in our case.

In hind sight, I wish we would have moved to the other villa on Paxos by another owner, and absorbed the cost.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your thoughts on your recent holiday to Greece. I was pleased to hear that you both enjoyed your stay at the White Orchid in Sivota, it truly is a wonderful property. On the other hand, I was sorry to read that you were unhappy with your stay at Purple Apricot. I note from your feedback that your main concerns when staying at the Purple Apricot were in regards to noise from the surrounding area. As with any factor that is not within our direct control, there are always limitations to the way in which we can influence them. Whilst I would like to reiterate that we have not received any similar feedback from any of our other guests to date, we always aim to ensure that all of our guests feel comfortable in their hotel or villa. Unfortunately, as we had no other accommodation on Paxos during the time of your visit the only option would have involved transferring to Corfu. The local school and Purple Apricot are separated by 200m of olive trees and foliage. The school term runs from mid-September to the end of May. Whilst there is intermittent noise during the school break time this does not surpass the afternoon after the children have gone home. Again, we have not received any feedback from other guests regarding noise from the school, however, this is something we will be sure to monitor going forward. We look at all feedback with the view of identifying areas where we can improve, along with where we have performed well. We therefore, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us and please be assured I have forwarded your feedback to our Product Director for their information.

Hi.. we stayed in Serenity but all rooms are peaceful and devoid of any noise at all. The kitchen (which only serves breakfast) is housed in its own stone building completely away from the suites. The 'bar' is a refrigerator, again away from the suites and located next to the kitchen and office. It really is a perfect little oasis of tranquility.... Don't be put off by any negative comments re noise. We too read these before our visit last year but needn't have worried.
