Stayed here for one night whilst on business - booked by my company. It's on a main route into the city and by all accounts very handy. There is a car park at the side of hotel, I got parked ok (mid week night) which I was happy with.

The reception staff were nice enough and I was directed to a room on the top floor, double en suite. I don't think there is a lift so please check if mobility is an issue. The stairs up to the top floor are rather narrow and awkward, I only had a small case luckily. The room itself (17) was quite spacious and on the front of the building. I would describe it as being in need of TLC. Probably refurbed a few years ago and rather tired in places with some carpet stains and a rather shabby rug. I think these rooms in old buildings must be a cleaners nightmare and it was rather dusty in places. No one died from dust though did they....

The bed was very soft, and the pillows also so I was glad to only be staying for a night as I do suffer with a bad back, the linen was clean. The room was also a bit chilly, the radiator was only just warm. There is a notice about either asking for an extra heater (or fan in summer) and I did just that. A fan heater was supplied which did make the room toasty. I guess it depends on whether you are a hot or cold person. There are blackout blinds and curtains to making it nice and dark for sleeping. Road noise was well suppressed.

The bathroom was, on the the face of it, clean and bright. If you look closely at the shower pipe and the dial they were rather grubby. They are old fitments and you could really only clean them with a toothbrush and a lot of scrubbing - maybe done regularly it would be a quick job but I don't think they had been done for a long time. I'm quite a fussy person but actually I wasn't put off from using the shower, it was just that it should really be spotless.

I ate in the restaurant for dinner and was served by a really nice young lady, very pleasant and efficient to deal with. I had two courses (see pictures) and both were very nicely cooked. You can check their menu online, I think there are vegetarian options, not sure about vegan. They have a price for 2 or 3 courses.

Breakfast is served in the bar area, a chap said I could choose from a menu but didn't bring one although there was a selection of hot and cold items from a buffet. I overheard another waiter telling some other people that the system had just changed and it was buffet only so I think my waiter had got muddled up. I guess you should ask if you want something that isn't on the buffet, I wasn't bothered.

I would summarise by saying that this place just lets itself down by being a bit tired and lacking attention to some of the basics, but if you need somewhere to stay for a couple of nights there are probably a lot worse places.

We stayed from 4th to 11th September.

We had a good meal in the hotel on our first night, but breakfast the following morning was a disaster. We waited 45 minutes for the hot food and many other guests clearly had the same experience. This was no fault of Rupesh, who did his best to cope, but appears to have been the result of a lack of planning and staffing for the large number of guests.

That appeared to be resolved for the next few mornings, but then the same thing happened on Wednesday (9th). To happen once was disappointing, to happen twice in less than a week was unacceptable. We decided to go elsewhere for breakfast that day (and have been given credit for that).

The other cause of stress to us on the Saturday was the inability to use the shower in room 47, as the cold supply was faulty. This should have been checked before the room was cleared for our use. Unsurprisingly, this could not be resolved, so we had to move to room 62 in the afternoon. We were not offered any help with the move, but had to transfer all our luggage ourselves.

As a result of the room move, we were unaware until Sunday of the current lack of room housekeeping during our stay. We were not told about this when we checked in and we were further disappointed that we have had to make our own bed. We do not really understand why this restriction applies. Surely if housekeeping staff wear masks and gloves, there shouldn't be a problem?

Here are some other suggestions for improvements:
1. Dinner menu is unimaginative, so we ate out every other day of our stay.
2. Wi-fi was not 'high speed' as described on the hotel website. Reception was very poor in the bar and bedroom.
3. Background music in bar and restaurant was tedious and unchanging. Not everyone likes 'jazz' playing all the time.
4. No draft or bottled bitter in bar. Cans of Tetley are very poor alternatives.
5. The bedrooms lacked glasses or even plastic beakers for drinks.
6. We should not have to ask for a non-slip mat for the bath. It is narrow and slippery, so a mat should be standard.

There are some issues with room 62:
1. The shower head leaks badly in certain positions.
2. The light unit to the left of the large mirror is faulty, as in certain positions, the bulb flickers.
3. The right hand socket to the right of the mirror is faulty, as plugs do not fully go in.

On a positive note, we were very impressed with the great efforts made by staff in difficult circumstances, with a special mention for Dave, who has cheerfully tried hard to make everyone feel comfortable, and Rupesh.

We left these comments at the hotel on our last night and, to be fair, the hotel responded but the response was very generic and unconvincing. I suggest you read other recent reviews to see if improvements have been made.

We stayed for 2 nights over the new year period with another couple who took a small dog.We requested a speculative room upgrade and were given room 49 The Grandad Wooley Room with a 4 poster bed and large bathroom, which we were very pleased with.
The hotel was decorated for Christmas and being a traditional style hotel was done very tastefully.
We had breakfast served on the first day , the staff appeared to be under pressure but we wre served a decent breakfast after waiting half an hour for our order to be taken. On new years day we were in the main dining room where a buffet style breakfast was available which was an improvement over day 1.
Our friends had an annex room which appears to be for those who bring pets but the rooms looked to be satisfactory.
The hotel is approx. 40 minutes walk from the centre of York, we took the lovely park riverside route with our friends having a dog. this would be our recommended route having walked back the road route.
The No 7 designer outket bus picks up and drops off outside the hotel but for £2 each its as cost effective to get a taxi for similar money for 4 people. The hotel is on the main road into York and gets traffic jammed at peak times.
The staff were very friendly and offered local advice.
All in all a lovely short break, we would highly recommend the jotel and would return without hesitation.

When we arrived at the hotel our initial thoughts was that it was a little dated, the reception area is very small and not the most welcoming. The staff from the moment we checked in were all very friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We had booked a four poster room, we were in room 49 on the back of the hotel. It was small but a very nice room and very clean. The shower was a rainshower and very invigorating. Rooms are not being serviced due to Covid, you just ask at reception and they will give you supplies. The hotel was in a very convenient place, we didn't use our car at all, we just jumped on the number 7 Park and ride bus that stopped right outside the hotel and even went to the railway station. We didn't have meals pre-booked, however, we did book in twice for dinner, the food was a very good standard and reasonably priced. We also discovered the hotels lovely courtyard gardens which were well kept. I would definitely recommend a stay at this hotel, as I said the staff were amazing, we will definitely be returning

Me and my partner just got back from a mini break at York pavilion hotel for our anniversary. Firstly the staff make this place sparkle! From the receptionists to the night porters. I cannot speak highly enough of their friendliness and the amazing standard of service. We felt so comfortable and cared for. Firstly we arrived slightly later than planned by the time we settled into our room dinner was over. However the amazing chef kindly stayed to cook for us and just wow. The food was delicious and a huge portion! I wish I had room for desert because I could see other people's coming out and was very jealous. On that first night between the chef and the gentleman serving us we felt like royalty. And the staff here really know the area and are able to give you fantastic recommendations on what to see and do. Now the hotel itself is like something out of a Christmas movie just breath taking. The grounds and the decor, we just adored it. Beautiful large fire places and stunning light fixtures. We stayed in the queen's suite and was not dissapointed between the canopy bed, high ceilings and jacuzzi bath tub we barely wanted to leave the hotel. If there wasn't so much history to see in york we could have just stayed inside our hotel room for 3 days. We went out of a day and relaxed of an evening in our beautiful surroundings. There is free parking here which is great and the bus stop for York center is right outside, however we did walk into town on a few occasions as a walk past the river was breathtaking. When you live in london it is nice to take in such views. Honestly for our first couples break in 8 years this couldn't have gone better. We will definatley be back and I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Anything you need they are happy to help and if you stay you have to book the breakfast! Fresh fruit, pastries, full English, scrambled eggs the list goes on I had something different every day and was not dissapointed. Like I say aside from the amazing room, the staff here just make you feel at home and they really made our stay a 10/10. Thank you :) x

What a great hotel , from the moment we arrived to the moment we sadly left we could not fault this hotel. The staff are some of the best we have ever met ,Shelby and Alla on the bar ,Matthew who took my booking and Rosemary who ran the breakfast service who was a star in her own right and all the others without exception made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was nice, warm with everything you might need for your stay .The chefs produce some of the nicest food which is always piping hot , the breakfast selection is vast and all the hot food is cooked to order which is really nice , another good thing is the location of this hotel ,if you want to go either into York of the Designer outlet there are bus stops within 100 yards of the hotel and the buses are every 15 mins , if you fancy a change of scenery there is at least 3 pubs to the left of the hotel and 1 right next door which has been recently taken over , but really you have everything you need in this hotel with a wonderful residents lounge with an open fire which we had lit and sat with other guests one night puting the world to right ,this hotel is a gem and a credit to the owners and all who work there, we will return and when we do it will be for a longer stay ,thank you all for a great time .

The hotel is a good location for visiting York, being a 40 minute walk along the river with the option of taking the bus from outside the hotel. The guy on reception was friendly and efficient on our arrival and at all other times when we had any questions. The room was clean and comfortable, although the carpet needs either steam cleaning or replacing and the tiles in the bathroom need re-grouting. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner on each day, and the waiters/waitresses in the restaurant and bar were all very friendly and efficient. The hotel is a little dated and needs more attention to cleaning in the communal areas, but overall we enjoyed our stay here.

I feel I have to write this review as I read the others before coming and to be honest, I was expecting the worst. Check in was straight forward, the receptionist was very friendly and the room was ready. We went to the room, having to be directed by someone as we went the wrong way (our fault!) and we were pleasantly surprised by it. It is dated, yes, but that’s obvious from the website anyway. It’s very in keeping with the building and it’s nice and homely. On first appearances, the room was clean (more on that later!) and comfortable. The television worked, there is ample storage and the bathroom was ok. It definitely needs an overhaul but it worked well enough for us. It was clear straight away that the building is noisy - there’s a lot of creaking from the pipes and the floorboards but nothing that ruined the stay. The mattress in our room was very comfy too, which not many people have mentioned. Cleanliness throughout the building was ok. The corridors need work - there was a dead fly on the floor overnight and there was a used glass abandoned on a set of drawers. The only complaint we had on checkout about our room was that someone’s socks and jumper were hidden behind the large curtains so that clearly wasn’t clean and needs addressing.
The car park was another thing I was worried about before arrival. It’s plenty big enough but the main problem is the other patrons who think their cars are more important than everyone else’s. If they moved up next to the other parked cars, the car park wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Speaking of other patrons, that’s another issue we had. We had breakfast on both days. It was very nice and there are plenty of options. However, on the second day, the service was a farce. That said, I do blame some of the other service users. We were asked to choose a time
for breakfast and it was clear that many people didn’t stick to that, just turning up when they fancied and then making demands like it’s a 5* hotel, just for their use. This put unnecessary pressure on the staff who were there doing their best.
All the staff that you come in to contact with were great. The cleaners clearly need some more training or some spot checks - that is a let down. Overall,
I would say that this hotel is ok for the money. The location is good and the staff are lovely. It’s not a perfect hotel, but they don’t claim to be. If you’re looking for a good base for a few nights, it’ll do the job.

I hope that by writing a negative review that the owners and management of the hotel will review:
Cleanliness
Decor
Customer relations.
I cannot think of anything positive about our abortive stay, except for the pleasant receptionists.
We asked that the dirty room be cleaned after our arrival, that the flies be removed and that we should be relocated to the deluxe room we had reserved; none of this happened as there was a large wedding reception taking place.
We had not been informed about the wedding.
Attempts to reclaim the money we had(foolishly) paid upfront were ignored.
It was only after a direct intervention by Best Western that we were refunded half the amount.
Not satisfactory as we told the receptionist at 6.00pm that we would not stay in such a dirty room.
We drove 3 hours home.
