Safari holiday for us + daughter, son-in-law and their two children. Four nights in Sosian, splendid in every aspect. Superb location, wonderful service (especially towards the children, one of whom needs gluten free food), great safari guided by James. Pool, horse riding, comfortable, great rooms. Loved it.

We had a wonderful time at sosian. Our first time in Kenya as a family. The activities were seamless with wonderful wildlife, knowledgable guide and thoughtful hosts. Kerry in particular was fabulous. Our gluten 13yr old was very well catered for, which was lovely. It was relaxed luxury with wonderful food. Would definitely recommend.

What a memorable stay we had travelling as a 3 generation family. This was our young children’s (5 and 9 years) first trip to Africa and was the first of two stops. This beautiful lodge did not disappoint. We were wonderfully looked after by Megan, Cassy and the rest of the team. This place has a really warm family feel and there is a nice social element to it. Our girls especially enjoyed gathering round with the other guests to have dinner and discuss all the things they had seen. The food was fantastic. They also loved a dip in the pool in the middle of the day!! The guides were incredibly knowledge of the area. The wildlife isn’t as abundant as somewhere like the Mara, but we found having to track and search for the wildlife only added to the experience. We were lucky enough to see a lioness and her cub on a kill, a male lion, spotted and stripped hyaena, giraffe, elephant, the characterful grevys zebra, hippo and much much more! I went out on horseback for 2 of the drives. There was something really magical about seeing the bush from this vantage point. The scenery is also spectacular. Thank you so so much for a truly memorable stay, we all had the best time and were made to feel so welcome. A special thank you to Megan and Cassie for making the girls so welcome, they miss you both very much!! We hope to visit again (although good luck getting of us to leave!!) …

A few days before my recent trip to Sosian Lodge I saw a review about the game drives not meeting the expectations of the reviewer. As a photographer I was concerned to say the least. My first trip to Kenya started when Simon, my guide/driver met me at Loisaba Airstrip. With exception low we stared to the lodge with my camera bag next to me an zipped closed. A situation I quickly corrected as Simon started pointing out wildlife. Later in my stay we laughed about me scrambling to get my gear out. From the airstrip to the lodge I shot 500-600 images and it was just the beginning. We were met at the lodge by Meghan and the staff. I would soon discover the staff was much more like family. I can’t thank them enough for making my first trip to Kenya exceptional. From lodging to meals I found everything exceeded my expectations. Tea at 4 each day allowed for interaction with other guests and staff and planning for the evening drive. I even learned to enjoy the tea, much better than at home. Back to Simon, what an amazing, professional and knowledgeable guide. He knows not only the animals but understands where to put the vehicle with regard to light and subject, a real asset to a photographer. Each drive he asked what I wanted to see and somehow he found it. I’ve photographed animals in the wild for years and learned it’s not a zoo in the wild. He is so knowledgeable about the animals and their behavior he would tell me what was going to happen before it did. I now have 3,000- 4,000 images to review. A good problem to have as a photographer. To Simon, Meghan and the rest of the “family” you are true professionals I appreciate you making my stay exceptional. …

Camel rides, horseback riding and jumping off the waterfalls were all part of the activities at Sosian Lodge. Game drives too, but so much more. Excellent service and willing to accommodate everyone's choice of activity, the staff was exceptional. This lodge is a very different experience as part of a safari, as it is actually a working ranch. I would highly recommend a visit here, even though I would change a few things: 1-More Kenyans in visible managerial positions. 2-Offer dinner options other than everyone eating at one large, loud table in the dining room. My group of 6 would have liked a smaller, quieter venue where we could have talked about the day. 3-The internet: only available in a small, cramped hall by the office with not enough places for people to sit.

Whether this is a 3 star, 4 star or a 5 star option depends on what you are looking for. For us, it was a poor option during a multi-location trip around Kenya. I think the essence of this lodge is horse riding. Most of the other guests we met had come for that reason and horse riding was the talked-about activity at meal times. If that is your interest, this may be a 5 star property for you. For us, we were interested in landscapes, animals and photography. The games drives we did were poor. Obviously we weren't expecting anything like the Mara, but even allowing for that, we were disappointed compared with games drives in other North Kenya locations, such as Meru, for example. The hotel management were friendly and helpful and the food was respectable. With horse riding as a central theme, the hotel attracts families and children - another reason why it wasn't really for us. In summary this might be the perfect option for some people, but you just need to ensure that what it offers is matched to what you want. For us, it was a miss.…

The very best of British Kenyan hospitality. Our stay was quite magical, we saw lots of game including hyenas and lions, thanks to our outstanding guide Simon. The food and atmosphere was excellent. You truly feel far far away from everything.

We have just returned from a few days at Sosian, which I could not recommend more highly. From the moment of our very warm welcome on arrival to the our sad goodbyes it was a complete treat and we can’t wait to come back again.

Another excellent stay at this traditional safari lodge. Wonderful service from friendly staff, a very knowledgeable safari guide, James, was a delight to spend many hours travelling around this beautiful conservancy with some great sightings. The bedroom accommodation was spacious, very comfortable beds, and the newly renovated bathrooms were smart and well appointed. The lodge itself is beautifully furnished and very atmospheric. The food was plentiful and delicious and the bush breakfast by the hippo pools great fun. All in all we had a very happy family time and would certainly recommend this special lodge in Laikipia.

Sosian Lodge is really lovely with marvelous cottages and very special treatment. We saw lots of wonderful wildlife with a wonderful guide and were treated beautifully by the staff and managers, Albe and Meghan. Beautiful and special dinners and drinks. Some of the best events included watching a parade of big tuskers while we nursed sundowners in the incredible landscape and a dinner on a riverbank, listening to a calling leopard. Then there was the dinner in the nook of the Honeymoon cottage, all simply out of another time. The Pictures don't really do it justice, it's a much more comfortable place and well worth the effort to get there.
