Pleasant enough stay in a tired looking hotel
Lovely beach front location in fact it’s the location that really is the best part of this hotel.
It’s a nearly but not quite. Pictures show the rusty bathroom accessories and an uncleaned fridge from the previous guests. Stained bedside lampshade.
The safe in the room didn’t work. There were no waste bins in the room just a v small one in the bathroom.
Door out to balcony warped and difficult to open. We were there two nights but our room was not cleaned. Perhaps we should have asked ? Having said all that the price paid reflects that this is not a top lines hotel. Would recommend as the price is reflective of the tiredness of this hotel and as stated a very good location
Ate here on our last night and chose fresh fish grilled with French fries. Sitting out on the beach eating fresh cooked fish was lovely.
We booked a queen room with sea view. Mosquito net difficult to stretch over the bed as the headboard was stuck firmly to the wall creating gaps in the net. Also whilst we had a lovely balcony view note it is noisy from the beach bar music below till the early hours. Not an issue for us but may be for some.
Giving 3 stars as the price paid recognises all these faults and location is great.

Note :
Hotel reception GBP/LKR rate was 320 for exchange. Exchange place over the road gave us 390 !!!! Don’t exchange money at the hotel.

As I said in my comment on their restaurant, I came here 4 times before and the last one was 8 years ago.

With my friends, we used to be almost the only ones in the guesthouse, staying in the cabanas (the 4 rooms), during two weeks around X-Mas... There was only one guy for the cleaning and the cooking... The owners were running it peacefully.

Now, the youngest son have been running and developing it. Gosh, I used to play carrom with him when he came back from university in Colombo and now he has become a very talented manager of his family guesthouse ! Congrats Chamara!

Since I was going to stay there only one night, I opted for the cheapest room. OK, it is not big but it has a good bed with a mosquito net and a bathroom and it is clean! And all this for only 2500 LKR. Very cheap option on the beach!

We were travelling in Nov 2019, with extended family, there were many of us, including small kids. And it was truly amazing - staff is unbelievable, we were very sad to leave ! They were super friendly with kids (although non of them had a common language to speak, kids had awesome time with staff and I could not be more thankful for such great vibe), always attentive to guests and always ready to help ! Food was the best on the entire beach, we tested and tried many places there around, as we were staying for more then a week. In general - perfect spot. If I ever get back to Sri Lanka, this is the only place I want to be in and nowhere else :)

Rooms are not exactly luxurious, but if you are only coming back for the night time to sleep, didnt matter that much. Much more important was the surrounding, service, feed, views and this great atmosphere.

Central Beach Inn was recommended to me by a friend whod stayed there himself a few years ago. Recently Id been having a pretty tough time and he told me that when he had a similar bad time he took himself to Mirissa Beach in Sri Lanka and specifically to this ‘Bohemian Paradise.’

However there is a bit of a trek involved. From the airport to Mirissa beach takes at least 2.5 hrs in a car. I did think for a second that might be a bit of a stretch but I was assured that it would be well worth it.

My friend was indeed correct.

Right away Centrals location is perfect. Right smack bang in the centre of Mirissa Beach the view is stunning. from my room to the beach front was a short walk through the bar area and 10s later I was pretty much in the sea.

The front of house staff are friendly and welcoming and the Inn helped me book a car to pick me up from the airport. The room itself was a bit run down and dated, but considering the price I paid (far lower than even a cheap Travelodge) I knew what i was getting into. The room had all the basics you’d need, such as Mozzie nets, fridge, safe, shower and most importantly air con! In fact that thing was so powerful my room invariably would be like a meat locker.

There were a couple of downsides. The Bar and the Inn are connected (they are run by the same family) but you couldn't put food and drinks on your room for instance and pay it off at the end of your stay, but that was a minor inconvenience. Also the sunbeds on the beach would be taken in at 4.30pm which felt a bit early but they had to set up the evening dining tables.

But the food was absolutely lovely and there was also one other top trump that the Central Beach had over anywhere else: The Staff.

In the 13 days I was there the staff did absolutely everything perfectly. Every day I was greeted with a smile, a fist bump or a high 5. In soaring heat these guys never stopped. They are without a doubt an amazing asset to the business and made my stay so comfortable and brilliant that a million thank yous would not be enough to cover it. Special mention goes to Namal, a brilliant bloke who never failed to make me laugh.

It was the kind of stay I could have only dreamed of, but having now done it I just want to go straight back. And thats because I stayed at this wonderful place, an absolute bona fide ‘Bohemian Paradise’.

Location is great, right on the beach. Sleeping with ocean and waves sound was amazing.
There are different room types, we stayed in Queen Room with Sea View and hence this comment is only for this room. The room was very spacious and big enough with ocean&beach view from the balcony. Also A/C was functioning properly.
Staffs are very nice. Particularly "Lucky" and "Sudesh" are always ready for help with big smile. They always welcomed us with smile and helped us with patience for all the questions we have.
If you love to sleep with ocean sounds , this room is definitely recommended.

Good service and amenities relative to the price, rooms are clean despite a few insects here and there. Most important aspect is that you get full access to the beach at all times just a few steps from your room. Would definitely come back here next time I’m in town.

AVOID this place if you want to sleep. Especially the seafront rooms are very noisy, because of an idiotic DJ making a lot of racket, although no guests were in the bar anymore. When I asked to put the speakers down, he turned the noise louder and started laughing at me. It's a pure disgrace and a complete lack of respect for hotel guests. On top of that, we had to chase a RAT out of the room, it was hiding under our bed! So, stay out here! (Similar comments on Booking, btw)

I was born in Sri Lanka, currently live in Los Angeles and I'm a dual citizen. Went to this establishment with my brother who lives in New York and ordered a couple of drinks. Was told that they don't serve locals and asked us to leave. How much do you have to hate yourselves to not want to serve your own people? This place is a disgrace to our country.

They refused to serve me because I am dark skinned. Apparently only 'Whites' are allowed. The place even had signage stating "Whites beyond this point". This is the most racist gesture I have come across while travelling. My partner is white, so it means she is welcome, and I am not?!? Wake up people!

Please read the article here and don't forget to read public comments .. ! Any hotel would be prefer to have good business and well in customer numbers . The hidden reason can be found in article too .. Putting the heading only in comment found to be unreasonable hiding of the content . Follow is the article since TA want allow to put web links Several restaurants located in the Mirissa Bay have refused to serve food, beverages and provide accommodation to Sri Lankans because of their anti-social behavior, several customers complained. Based on complaints of discrimination by Sri Lankans who had visited these hotels, Daily Mirror contacted some of the hotel owners in Mirissa and they too confirmed that they were reluctant to serve Sri Lankans because of their unruly behaviour. “I and two of my friends were turned away from several restaurants on the Mirissa Bay after being told by restaurant staff that they did not serve locals. When we made some inquiries, the reasons given were that some Sri Lankan men behaved in an unruly manner and harassed foreign women. Unruly men are common in any country, the solution is to have bouncers to control the offenders,” a guest we contacted said. Another Sri Lankan said when he ordered a coffee from a particular restaurant in the Mirissa Bay, the waiters had said they only served foreigners and could not serve the locals. However, when contacted by Daily Mirror, one of the restaurant owners wishing to remain unnamed said they had stopped serving food and beverages and providing accommodation to Sri Lankans because of several complaints and mentioned some of the embarrassing incidents which had happened to tourists, tarnishing the image of Sri Lankan hospitality. “Anti-social behaviour causing a nuisance to other guests, harassment, intimidation, threats or actual violence by local guests under the influence of liquor has been reported from many restaurants in the neighborhood including ours. We can’t let down our regular guests because of the locals who create problems for all concerned,” the owner said. The guests urged the Tourism Ministry to intervene in such cases ensure that the locals are not deprived of being served at these hotels. Meanwhile, several attempts made by Daily Mirror to contact the Director General of the Tourism Development Authority to inquire about the complaints had failed. (Piyumi Fonseka)

Mirissa, Sri Lanka
Hi Sir , Sorry for delaying reply this much . We had a problem with the account and its recovered now. Sri Lanka do not have PayPal facility for payments and bank payment gate-ways are having high rental fee + Commission of the payment. In order to give best price for the customer we asked for payment. And some guest found full payment for longer stay as unreasonable which we understand as fair . So for long stays now we are allowing to pay a day or two to make the reservation confirmed. Also if the reservation is too close for bank processing we accept contact number verification and reservation without any payment. Hope we have answer correctly and let us know if there is further information needed. Thanks you
