Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Love this hotel, friendly staff, clean, nice size room and good food. This hotel is just five minutes walk to the train station. Kyoto Station is the city's transportation hub, served by Japan Railways (including the Tokaido Shinkansen), Kintetsu Railways and the Karasuma

First of all the level of service is hardly matched by any other hotel. We bought a package with full Japanese dinner experience, but arrived late at the night restaurant was almost already closed. They opened it for us and did the whole seven course meal. Just for two of us.

This is the third hotel we stayed in during our Japan travels and by far the best. Why? We could walk (5 minutes’ walk at most) to the Kyoto station and from there take buses or tours from there. A 7-11 is right down the street, plus excellent restaurants, but what really stuck

Corner room is not a problem
comfortable bed
No private onsen in the room. It is not a onsen resort. But The public bath is good. Try it.

The onset is open from 6.30am- 9.30am and again at 6.30 pm- midnight ... although one evening I tried to go at 11pm and it was closed (the elevator wouldn't take me to the floor). The Onsen is only open to hotel residents and guests who have purchased a day package from the hotel. I was there at the height of Sakura season and did not find the onsen to be anywhere near crowded.

The guest who have tattoos can stya at our hotel. But our Onsen does not welcome a person, whatever his/her nationality, with a tattoo. Thank you for your understanding.

"If you can, make a reservation that include dinner. You won't regret!"
"Rooms on the left side of the hotel may have a better view"
"There are both Japanese and Western style rooms, and every room is non smoking."
"there are European type rooms and traditional Japanese rooms. I suggest try the second and experience the mid century harmony."
"We upgraded to a corner room which wasn't big so the standard rooms must be on the small side I would think."
