Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's just opposite Kyoto station. The room looked dated but was clean. There is a Lawson convenient store opposite the hotel. Bottled water was provided daily. Pyjamas and slippers were also provided.

Honestly the room was quite dated and not as clean as I expected in Japanese standards. I could see the water stains all over in the bathroom and the robe they prepared smelled so bad that I just had to toss them into the bathtub hoping they would bring clean ones the next day,

When we first arrived in Kyoto my only goal was to see the historic sections and the Shogun homes. When we checked into the hotel right across from the Kyoto Train Station I was really pleased. A lot of opportunity for walking in the City Centre was a bonus. The train station

I guess the chance is below 50% as the hotel is popular for tourists and business men. You could ask this to the front or perhaps you can stay at other nice hotels near the Kyoto station. I would recommend New Miyako Hotel, which is right back of the station or APA hotels which are near New Hankyu hotel. I believe New Miyako is more expensive but the room is much larger. I hope my answer was helpful.

I don't think so, but the station is across the street and it'd be an easy visit without much hassle or planning. My room was on 2nd floor. You may be able to see its approach from a higher floor...

Take the Central Exit, same exit that leads to the Kyoto Tower. :)

"Great location"
"Doors are thin. Ask for a corner where human traffic is low."
"we stayed at the 2nd floor, facing the street and the station. It was very quiet."
"Ask for non-smoking if particular. We had a smoking room for a night and even the towels smelled of smoke."
"They have smoking and non-smoking floors."
