Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

The ryokan vas very simple on the outside, but as you enter the door you’ll see the beauty of the place...the room, the mattresses, the toilet are clean...the hallway floor is very clean...definitely worth what you paid for!!!

The Ryokan’s location is very convenient. It’s extremely clean, residents are mindful or reminded of the need to be silent because the walls are thin. It would be hard to find a better deal. I highly recommend it to get a taste of Japanese traditional life. No need to worry

Stayed here for one lovely night. The Inn is cute and traditional. The workers are so kind and informative, they really go out of their way to be hospitable. Great walkable location and the public bath after a long day was incredible. Would love to stay here again.

Ryokan Shimizu is a place that leaves a lot of memory for me. We reached Kyoto late, and until Ryokan Shimizu's place was warmly welcomed by the owner. It is approximately 15 minutes' walk from Kyoto Station. The place is clean and well groomed. The rooms are spacious and clean.

Yes, there were plug points around the room. We also took an extension strip with us. This permitted us to recharge several gadgets (cell phones, laptops, phone chargers etc.) all at the same time.

You can ask them directly but it is not a house it is a Ryokan. If you don't know what it is you can Google it

Is ice available for having a drink in your room? A: We serve ice at the front desk. We are thinking about heat in our room in November? A: We have air conditioners in all the room. Also, would it be better to be in another area if we enjoy restaurant exploring? A: We have information maps of restaurants around the Ryokan.

They'll bring cups of hot tea to your room when you return from sight seeing at the end of the day. But they don't offer any food. But there are lots of food places within short walking distances from the Ryokan Shimizu.

Do u accept families with young children?
"If you are a family of more than two and and you would like to share a room, they have a room for you."
"All the rooms have their own bathroom, and it is tucked into a quiet neighborhood, so all the rooms seem to be good!"
"As with most ryokans, the walls are pretty thin so you will get some noise from your neighbours!"
"Book early!"
"The rooms at the front of the ryokan have clear glass windows whereas the ones on the side are frosted. It didn't bother us but if you think having frosted windows will, I suggest asking for a room at the front."
