The hotel is easy to find from the metro station. It is centrally located so you can walk to almost everywhere.
The staff was friendly and helpful . Most spoke English well.
In the lobby there are personal care products, in case you need anything. They offer ice pops on the afternoon and ramen at night. Both were good!
The onsen is wonderful! There is one for the ladies and one for the men. Do be aware, it is not clothing optional… you will have to disrobe to use them!

This is the second Dormy Inn we stayed at, the first being in Wakayama last year.
Deciding factor for us was hot spring plus laundromat and dryer, as we were travelling light across Japan. Within the women's hot spring facility, premium toiletries included make up remover, cleansers, moisturisers!! Don't need to pack anything in the bathing department, just check-in!

Dormy Gion or Dormy Premium in Hakata? Our party of 6 comprised 3 children (12,11 and 7), 2 adults and a senior. We chose to stay in the Dormy Inn Hakata Gion Hotel rather than Dormy Inn Premium, as this hotel has spacious twin rooms not available at Premium (2 X super single size 120 cm width), very comfortable for 2 adults and 1 child. Twin rooms are also more private, located at the end of the floor (wifi still strong!!). We checked into Comfort Floor twin rooms in Levels 9 and 10. Note that if you have an extra child to check-in using existing bedding, the hotel charges 1000Yen per child per night (for towels, Yukata etc, including supper noodles). Also, having toured Canal City (10 minutes walk from Dormy Gion), we were doubly glad to have chosen Dormy Gion, as Canal City itself was overpriced and paled considerably to Hakata Station area or Tenjin. Also, Premium is quite a walk to the subway station.

Dormy Gion is 7 mins walk to Hakata station, quite comfortable even with small luggage, as the walkway is underground. and 1 minute from Gion Station. Very convenient to Tenjin's shopping mecca, as it is only 2 subway stops away.

Top marks for
- comfortable bed and pillows, as well as (very presentable) bathrobes which can be worn throughout hotel as you go to and from the hot spring and restaurant.
- cleanliness. Hotel is spanking clean, the hot spring pristine. No trace of smoke at all on 9th and 10th Floors, as well as reception, restaurant etc.
- Convenient mart Lawsons right beside reception. Cannot ask for more than that.
- 2 bottles of complimentary bottled water per room per day, kettle
- Good variety breakfast, to please kids (range of western, including egg station) and adults (range of Japanese). And great value, 1200 Yen for adults and 600 Yen for children 12 and below.
- Complimentary coffee and tea whole day (at reception)
- Complimentary ramen suppers (and pretty delicious too)
- Awesome, STRONG wifi throughout!!
- Luggage storage. We stayed at Dormy Inn Gion for 2 nights each at the start and end of our 10-day Japan trip. They were able to keep 2 luggage for us, so we were able to travel light when we went to Hiroshima.

Front office staff was friendly and helpful. We used them for restaurant bookings in Hakata (but made only after we checked in).

Well done Dormy Inn! Your service delivery across both hotels we stayed so far is very consistent, but comfortably so, and this is very comforting!

I took the free shuttle from Fukuoka International Airport, transferred to its domestic terminal and then took the subway to the hotel. This may be a cheaper but tedious option if you have heavy luggage, or that you are travelling in a group. My advise is to take the taxi: cost us 1450yen (took taxi from hotel to airport) which I thought was worth every penny.

Breakfast (1200yen) which is of buffet style is of good quality if you like Japanese food. I cannot speak for the western style because I did not take any. There is mentaiko, miso soup, rice, porridge, cold poached egg, preserved vegetables, baked fish etc.

Onsen is well-kept, clean and comfortable. There is a outdoor onsen and a 90 deg sauna as well!

Hotel is located in a quiet part of Gion, we felt safe though. Subway is nearby so transport should not pose a problem.

Ramen for supper (9.30 to 11pm) was offered for free during our stay. The chef did not scrimp on the ingredients. It is a must-try. Thumbs up for the chef as I saw him in the morning for breakfast and at night for supper.

My only grouse is that most of the hotel staff do not speak much English. Communication was a pain even though I could manage a smatter of Japanese. So research for your itinerary instead of relying on them for advice!

Try the ramen store - Murata along the road of Machiya Folk museum (just behind the hotel). It is cosy and it serves wonderful homemade soba. They have an English menu, ask for it!

The location was fantastic. Only a minute walk to Gion station and 15 minute to the airport from the station. A convenience store was attached to the foyer, a good size supermarket was 5 minute walk (opposite direction to the station). The room was cozy, the bed was comfy, a funny thing is the toilet roll holder was hard to use. I loved the ONSEN. I could stay there for hours!! I used the bath in the evening and also in the morning. There were also a couple of washing machines and washing detergent that you can use for free, there was a small charge for the dryers. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. All the food I had was delicious, but the coffee could be better. The biggest disappointment was all rooms were non-smoking and there was a smoking booth on the floor I stayed. I had to get dressed every time I fancied a cigarette. Overall, I had a great stay and will stay there again.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, one when we arrived first night in a family room accommodating 2 adults and 2 children and our last two nights where we stayed in 2 separate double-bed rooms next to each other. I fully understand why the hotel stays so high rated in Tripadvisor all the times. Being modern and with the hot spring spa available which is very rare in city area, it is very hard to find deficiency for this hotel. It is nice to relax in the hot spa after shopping each night. The staff is nice and helpful although they speak very little English but always eager to help. The spa opens from 3pm to 10 am the next day and just next to the spa every night, the hotel offers free bowl of ramen from 9.30 p.m. The hotel situated just one station from the JR Hakata station and two stations from Tenjin Station, very convenient and accessible. From airport we paid around JPY1,500 by taxi each way. The free internet by LAN in each room is excellent. Breakfast is delicious with Japanese food and some western food. As for the difference of two rooms, the kids prefer the family room because they like to sleep on the Futon bedding on the floor but with 2 separate rooms, you have two bathrooms to use. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone - cosy, accessible, friendly, modern and make you feel like at home.

I stayed there for two nights. Nice onsen, room is clean but small. The location is good. Close to Gion station. And they offer shuttle bus service to Hakata station in the morning. It was all ok until when we checked out and wanted a taxi to the airport. I asked the front counter to help to call a taxi, and she just replied "No". I can understand if she cannot express well in English, but I can tell that she just doesn't want to help. And I knew that they just called a taxi for 4 for room 826. It was heavy rain that moment and we were urgently need to go to airport. I would be pleased if the hotel can be a little bit helpful.

The room was comfortable but pretty small and without a closet. (There were two hooks to hang, at most, three or four hangars.) There was very little floor space rendering it impossible to simultaneously open two suitcases. The very strong smell of cigarette smoke blanketed the hallway on our non-smoking floor. It was pretty bad.

The onsen on the second floor was spacious, clean and well appointed. It was the highlight of staying at the Dormy Inn. There were small lockers for storing items. The washer and dryer located in the onsen were quite convenient.

Complimentary noodles at night were a nice surprise. Breakfast was great with a large selection of both Japanese and Western items.

The staff was helpful and kind.

I feel ambivalent about this hotel. If I could, I’d rate the Dormy Inn 3 1/2 stars. While I liked much about it (the location, the onsen, the breakfast) the presence of cigarette smoke on a non-smoking floor would force me to choose another option next time.

I enjoyed staying in Dormy Inn Hakata Gion. The rate at this hotel was a little higher than that at the nearby Tokyu Inn. However, I felt that it was worth every penny of the price differences. Its location was great; It was about 50 meters from Exit No. 2 from the Hakata Gion subway station. There were 100 -Yen bus in front of the hotel going back and forth between the hotel and the shopping core of Tenjin. There were 24 hour grocery shops around the hotel (towards the Nakasu area).
The room was small by the North American standard, but more spacious than the Japanese counterparts. The bed was very comfortable. And everything was as exactly good as the hotel company advertises: it was super-clean and the cleaning or sterilizing procedure for a new occupant, as described in the brochure, is impressive. The complimentary breakfast exceeded my expectations in terms of variety and substance. My only remaining wish was that they may change the menu once in awhile: the menu remained the same for all through my stay. The cafeteria has a complimentary snack (Soba) service in the evening from 9:30 to 11:00 pm. The Soba wa cooked very nicely and every night I fully took advantage of it. The public bath or Onsen was great with natural spring water being used. The lobby has complimentary drinks at all times.
Having said, I have one suggestion: I felt that compared to their competitors such as Tokyu, Dormy Inn's in-room amenities(supplies) are not really adequate. As far as I can recall, there was only one one-kind individual tea bag, and there is no lotion while comb and razor were supplied on a daily basis. Odd. You can use a razor a few times, but you need some lotion to put. I have found that people go to the Public Bath or Onsen and get lotion.
All in all, I was more than satisfied with the hotel.

My title sums it up. The hotel is one of the best if not THE best value hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms are modern, you can adjust the room temperature which is not always the case with hotels in Japan. The hotel is connected to a convience store on the first floor. Came with free dinner after 9pm. It was a simple bowl of plain ramen but it was free. The location is excellent as it is adjacent to the Gion subway which is only 3 stops from the airport. A few minute walk to hakata canal city. Tons of nearby restraints. Walking distance to the main hakata station.

Had an onsen on the second floor and had free Internet. I stay at many hotels, so I don't give 5 stars very easily. This was a 5 star.

We stayed 2 nights at end May after we were done travelling around Kyushu, paying 18390 a night for a twin room. Although the room was clearly well-used, it was comfortable enough. There is a good-sized TV. This is a very busy hotel for passing businessmen n travellers to rest for the night.

The selling point is firstly the natural hot spring at the 2nd floor, the hearty breakfast , the location, attentive service and for some, the complimentary ramen at night .

The onsen - It is really nice to come back to an onsen hotel after a day of shopping or travelling. If you have not tried onsen, have no fear - just try. Don't worry. Just do your own thing. Don't stare. Bring along a large towel n a small face towel that are given. Follow these steps :
Get the number code (every day's different) to unlock the door at the onsen. Type in. Get in. Put slippers or shoes on the rack. Go to locker. In case u might forget the no. of the locker, always keep to the same number . I always use either no 1 or 2. Undress. Put everything in the locker except the small towel . lock the locker. slip the locker key around your wrist. Bathe. Usually the japanese wash thoroughly. Wash body n hair with the given soap so the onsen is kept clean n hygienic for everyone. Pls don't be like some crazy tourists who just splash in 2 seconds n hop into the bath. Use the small towel to wrap your washed hair. Suggest u dip slowly into the large hot bath . Try the baths. Once you r done, wash your body again n get your things. Dry yourself. Dress. Blow your hair. You shd try to use the bath 3 times : when you check in, preferably asap at 3pm when the onsen is open, the second time before you sleep so you can sleep v soundly n the next morning before your breakfast. Even 10 mins in the bath is good. It will relax you.
the location-
80 metres fr the subway Gion station ( 2 stops from JR Hakata station, a 12-15min walk from Hakata station) n 10 mins walk fr the Canal city. The taxi fare to the airport is only 1600yen.
Overall, i would say at 18390yen with a good breakfast n an onsen n it's close to Canal city where u can hv dinner, this is good value for money.

Don't know about the taxi cost but taking the train is quite easy. The airport train terminal is at the domestic terminal. So if you are arriving at the international terminal, take the free shuttle to domestic terminal first. The airport train (kuko line) is vey frequent (7 min during peak hours). You will be boarding on stop K13. Get off at Gion station K10. The closest exit is exit 3 but if you want an elevator, use exit 6. Finally, there are two Dormy Inn in Fukuoka, I assume you are going to this one.
