The place is managed by an Osaka woman (Saori) and her French husband (Alex from Paris). Alex was very responsive by email when I confirmed our train time, and when we got lost :) Once we have arrived, we had a nice chat with him, he is really friendly. The room was japanese style, very clean, spacious and bathroom facilities are very clean too. We were told about a brilliant place for breakfast by Alex and we went 2 days in a row (!). Alex always had a nice word for us when we were back to A la maison. When we left, he made sure we knew how to go to the airport and that we had planned enough time to reach it which was very nice. We would definitely stay there again!

Alex, the owner, is a nice guy with some tips on public transport and restaurants. The rooms are simple, nothing fancy, just the basics. Showers have to be done quickly, and there's a kitchen where you can prepare some food for yourself.

Pros: The guest house is centrally located and you can easily walk to main attractions (30 minutes to Umeda Sky Building and Osaka central station , around 20 minutes to Namba district, 20 minutes to Osaka Castle ). The food in the hostel is really taste and priced decently. Thanks to the owner, you can really feel like being at home + the oriental feel of japan-like accommodation. Cons: Usually when evaluating accommodation, I omit the issue of cleanliness as not having great significance for me ( I do not pay much attention to it). However, in a situation when the conditions appear to be insufficient I am compelled to mention this in the assessment . In general, the guest house is quite dirty, duvets and pillows were not changed for a long time and the room smells musty. Even taking into account the fact that this is a budget hotel , I believe that the conditions were not very good.

I have to start with the great and very friendly owner. Although he made a great effort in welcoming us I couldn't believe that we slept in the basement (no windows, no daylight) on couches with a little mattress, after seeing pictures on tripadvisor and booking com of tatami rooms this was not as expected. After putting in earplugs (because the bar didn't close at 11pm unfortunately) we slept well. The shared toilet (which is also the bar toilet) needs very good clean.

I wouldn't suggest staying here for more than a few nights. It's a nice place with your basics, a small room and a toilet. Showers are communal. The owners were extremely welcoming and helped us get around our first few days while there, although sometimes I felt a little bit too nosey :). The location is about a 5 minute walk from a Subway station, and you can get everywhere in Osaka via subway basically. The only few downsides to the place was with the pub downstairs sometimes smoke will creep up into your room, the stairs are very steep and higher floors don't have rails for them which is where the only western toilet was located and the pillows were almost non existent. Apart from that, it's a nice little place and for the price you'll be hard pressed to find a better location than this.

A decent place to stay for a couple of nights in Osaka. Price vs quality was satisfactory to me. The owners were very friendly and you can buy a good and cheap omelet for breakfast in their restaurant in the ground floor. It's a small and cosy house with just 4 rooms I think. Place was clean. It's nothing extraordinary but again it seemed inexpensive and the location was fine in terms of public transport, there nearly seemed to be a metro station on every corner of this neighbourhood. Well stocked supermarket was less than 10 mins walk away.

Stayed in this guest house last December. Very close to the station, and the owners - Alex and Saori - were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived very late at night, and Alex waited up for us until we arrived. He also let us stay for free in the basement room after our check-out time had expired so we could wait for our train. Access to everything in Osaka was within walking distance, and the hotel itself was very clean and comfortable. It also features a nice roof terrace. Our room was fairly simple with Japanese-style bedding, with the blankets and covers stored in a large cupboard, and a heater/table thing in the middle of the floor. You don't get your own shower, however - you share with the other guests. For the price, though, this was well worth it, and offers everything you need if you're travelling on a budget. Highly recommended.

I had an excellent stay at a la maison, the place was clean and in a good location to the local attractions. The owners Alex and Saori were excellent, very friendly and helpful. They made the experience even better. The hotel has a restaurant which serves some great meals. Amazing value for money, best place I stayed in Japan. Many thanks, will be back again.
