I was pleasantly surprised at the newness of the hotel, walking in thinking it was brand new but was informed that they had been open for 10 years and recently got renovated. The staff were very kind and helpful. I was there on a solo business trip. The room has a bar setup, full of complementary drinks and snacks. I'd never seen a fully complementary bar and fridge so it was a HUGE surprise. I think the room was wasted on me as I was on business but it was a nice place to stay, for couples on holiday perhaps. Location wise, it's right by Nishiazabu crossing so you can hop on the bus into Shibuya quite easily. Breakfast was buffet style. I try to eat clean with lots of protein so the selection was a little disappointing, lacked clean protein with some fresh veg and fruit...protein was all processed so I went a little hungry. Nespresso coffee machine was nice.

Thank you very much for choosing to stay at Roppongi Hotel S. We are very happy to receive your compliments about our room. The room you stayed in is a new room with the theme of "staying at the bar" that was created when our hotel was renovated last year. We have other rooms with different concepts, so please enjoy a different atmosphere the next time you stay with us. Thank you for your encouraging words regarding our staff. We will not be satisfied with this, and will continue to devote ourselves to providing a better time for our customers. It is our great pleasure to hear that you were satisfied with our location. As you said, our hotel is within walking distance of Roppongi's landmarks, Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown, and is well located for shopping and easy access by train and bus. Also, thank you for your valuable feedback about our breakfast. We will consider your opinion as an issue for future improvement in terms of changing the type and content of our breakfast. We will continue to strive to improve our services so that we can provide a better space that satisfies our customers. We are looking forward to seeing you again. Best regards, Hotel Assistant Manager

H&R has always been so wonderful. The staff know each person by name. I love that they have both space for short stays and long stays. The serviced apartments are so comfortable and clean. All the amenities are top-notch. The room I stayed in had a wide white wall, and I was able to use my pocket projector to watch a movie on it at night. True getaway feel, right at a place that felt like home :) it’s a good mix of the two. And the location is very convenient in the middle of Tokyo! Highly recommend for longer stays - whether it be a few weeks, months, or for a 1-2 year work contract.

The hotel is centrally located in Roppongi and walking distance to many places. It is modern and definitely deserving a design award. The room I had was spacious for a Japanese hotel and had all amenities including fridge and Nespresso maker. My only gripe was that the work space is separated from the bathroom by a floor-to-ceiling glass window. Makes for a fun experience if you are sharing such room with someone... (1 point deduction). What I really disliked was the breakfast. Neither Japanese nor western, it seemed a confused mixture of flavors. I mean, I have never been in a Japanese hotel that has no rice cooker for breakfast or offers miso soup. This was for me a huge letdown and I strongly encourage any visitors to not pre-pay for the "breakfast."

This was the worst hotel during our long stay in Japan. And we payed a fairly high rate. We stayed in the patio room, I believe it’s supposed to be a nice room but found a room split by a bunch of dry walls and weird steps. For example the bathroom was high on a step and inside the bathroom you feel like stepping on a hollow floor and walls are dry walls full of cracks everywhere. Also nowhere to hang a hand towel in the bathroom and the sink counter is tiny so you can’t even leave the towel on the counter. The walls were also so dirty full of splashes. The hair dryer was so dirty and sticky. The room has a small wet bar with sink and fridge, our fridge didn’t work but housekeeping put waters inside but didn’t bother to report a non functional fridge. The walls around the wet bar were full of splashes easily removed with a paper, which means cleanliness was not good. They offer robes, slippers and some sort of uncomfortable viscose robe, so no pajamas just two sets of robes one fluffy and one uncomfortable. The tub was very nice, but to get there you had to jump up on a higher wall/ step and watch your head to go through a short door as you jump in and out (I’m very short myself). The room is all about the tub but no bubbles were provided, it’d be a nice touch. The room offered no body lotion, which is usually pretty standard. When we checked in they gave us a card saying they would clean our room only on one specific day of our 3 night stay, I thought that was a rude thing specially considering how poor the cleaning was and the level and rate of hotel compared to others in the area. The card did say they’d clean extra if requested, so we did ask for service everyday. Breakfast was mediocre, not western, not Japanese, I don’t know what that was. Service all around the hotel was odd, everybody seemed confused and shy everytime. Almost as if avoiding to talk to you so you don’t ask for anything. And I did not complain about anything, we just checked in, ate breakfast and checked out.
Overall I’d not recommend staying here, they have a lot of work to do on cleaning, aesthetic, and functionality of the room. Service needs more training to make guests feel welcome.

Quite expensive for the service received. I asked to see the room before complete payment and they did not allowed me. I'm used to see what I buy. Infact the first room at the second floor was horrible, smoke smelling and with a fantastic view on the inner closed court full of AC noisy fans. I definitely asked to change the room. The new one was in front of the highway, quite noisy but not bad. The window was broken so only AC to refresh the air.. wi-fi not working in my room
Maybe I was just unlucky.
The young workers are fine and polite.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of our hotel and we are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. Since each room is uniquely designed and the building was just renovated about 2.5 years ago, it is difficult to know what to expect before you actually check in. Having said that, every room is utterly different and we very much hope you will come back and give us another try sometime soon. Thank you for your very kind comment about our friendly staff. We will continue to do our best.

We were very satisfied with all aspects of our 3 day stay here. Following a pleasant breakfast each day we headed out. We had easy access to all of Tokyo. We walked much of the city from the hotel and used metro to return . Google maps lead us astray on getting to the hotel. It is located right on Roppongi dori just 5 minute walk down hill past Roppongi Hills mall and across the street.

First, the good points:
- Excellent location; 5 minutes walk to the heart of Roppongi; 10 minutes walk to the Roppongi train station. Being located outside the heart of Roppongi means no noise from the street at night
- Plenty of restaurants, cafes, and all night convenience stores on the hotel's doorstep
- Friendly and helpful staff, who mostly speak reasonable English
- Hotel is very new (and clean)
- Very comfortable bed
- Free wifi in the rooms

Now for the not so good points:
- Rooms are small, although no doubt typical of hotel rooms of this price in Tokyo. I stayed in the Special Deluxe, which is two sizes up from the smallest room, and this was still quite small
- Unable to make outside calls from the phone in the room (not even to landlines in Tokyo); this is a ridiculous hotel policy which must be changed
- Breakfast is very disappointing; mostly comprises vegetarian dishes that seem more designed to serve as decoration than to be eaten
- Hotel rooms don't include instant coffee, sugar, or cups with handles; instead, Japanese tea, with handle-less bowl type cups are included (no doubt with Japanese guests in mind)
- Furniture in rooms is a little on the cheap side (although as above the bed is very comfortable)

All in all, the hotel represents fair value for money, bearing in mind that hotels in Tokyo are expensive, and unless you pay big money, room sizes are very small. Due to the small room sizes, I recommend you go for at least the Special Deluxe.

Are you the type of person that wears sunglasses indoors, that pays extra for a pair of jeans with holes in it and goes out when others go to sleep? Then the Roppongi Hotel S might well be the place for you. As the name implies, it is located in the heart of Tokyo's night life district, about 5 minutes walking from Roppongi station. And it features the strangest layout I've encountered so far.

Based on the promising pictures on the booking website, we choose the "four cube" room which consists of four somewhat separated spaces. And while the booking website didn't lie, the pictures and text do promise more that the room lives up to. The four cube room isn't any bigger than the average hotel room in this price range, it has just been cut in fours.

The bed is on an elevated floor, making it hard to stand upright. The toilet is so close to the bed, that one feels like doing one's duty in the bedroom rather than the bathroom. The bath is so small that only children can sit comfortably in it, while the shower is mounted at chest height. The "kitchen" faces the bathroom, which means you see your partner in the bath or shower while cooking (or working at the adjacent desk). The safe is too small to hold a DSLR camera or laptop.

In the end, it felt like being an animal trapped in a small cage. We had to climb the get in the bed and duck to enter the bathroom (door is about 160 cm in height), limbo to the living room and forget about privacy.

While others may enjoy this neighbourhood of Tokyo and may enjoy this unusual layout, we didn't feel at home. No thank you.

We would first of all like to thank you for taking the time to write your in depth review of our hotel. We appreciate the comments you have made and will try to improve on how our rooms are presented. We do have layouts and pretty detailed descriptions on our website but you are right that size in Japan can sometimes be surprising. This room has a unique shape and since the building is about 30 years old and was completely renewed two years ago using the original shape and size of the rooms, we were limited in how we could set up the space. Please do note that each room in our hotel is a totally unique design so we hope this one being too small won't keep you from trying some of our other types on your next visit. Again, thank you for your review and we will continue working on how to improve.

Location was great. Short walk to Metro. The area itself has many cool little restaurant options. Western and Japanese.

English speaking, European staff member!

Breakfast was a very minimal, vegetarian styled buffet. Coffee, vegetables and cereal. Would have enjoyed a little variety. If they want to be minimal, it's fine.... but maybe an egg / toast?

As a restaurant later in the day, it was full-on gourmet, amazing.

Rooms were recently renovated. I stayed in a "supreme" room which although it was still rather small (average size by Japanese standards), the way it was designed and the layout of the room optimized the use of space. Stylish and modern. Extremely comfortable, super-soft beds. Great place for travellers in their 20's / 30's. Very cool "meeting room" imacs and touch screen and projectors for a creative team pow-wow.

I was concerned about a package I had forwarded to our hotel from another. Staff member Yuri took it upon herself to call our previous hotel to inquire and made it her personal mission for the day to get it delivered safely, which it did. It was a "above and beyond" moment in customer service that makes me want to return one day.

My only qualm was the wifi. For some reason was spotty.

Outside of any negatives. Can't ask for much better in the heart of Tokyo.

Stayed at Roppongi Hotel S for 2 nights late October 2013. The standard room (lowest price) is only 17m2 in area. It is extremely functional and more than enough space for one person. However for 2 people, I recommend upgrading to a larger room. They have various room size choices.... of course rate goes up too.

To my surprise, in my standard room, there is a washing machine!, microwave, frig, and a counter sink. They also provide hair dryer, the usual bath amenities, and a safe.

The breakfast vegetable buffet was unique. Nice to start the day healthy. I didn't interact with the staff besides checkin/out, service average overall.

This is a non-smoking hotel, they provide smoking area in the parking lot (I think). The hotel gave us a useful note at check-in regarding rules/schedule of the place. The last line states "Smoking is prohibited in the hotel". So of course my next door neighbor smoked the 2nd night of my stay, and of course the smoke smell crept inside my room. It was quite heavy....ie chain smoking? Unfortunately this is common in Tokyo hotels. :(

Like others have mentioned, location is great. Family Mart 2-3 stores up the street, subway 7-8 min walk, and Roppongi Hills next to subway entrance. And like other hotels in Tokyo, this place is clean.

The functional design of this hotel is worth a stay. Check it out.

Thank you so much for your comments and I hope that as long as we improve the handling of the smokers breaking hotel rules, you would have given a higher rating? Until now, it was difficult for our staff to be strict about certain rules, but we understand well how valuable a fully no-smoking environment is for everyone and how this should be fully enforced as it is of utmost importance if the policy is clearly stated. We will do our absolute best to keep the no smoking building, truly no smoking. We hope you will try us again.

There is a an airport shuttle that has a stop at the Grant Hyatt Hotel, close to the Roppongi Hills. It's about 10 minutes or less walk from the S hotel. I am not clear about Disney though.
