Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Restaurant Friendly service, excellent food and lots of it. Really good meal out. We were served by Romeo, speed of service was about right, food for whole group was delivered at same time and all was very hot. We will be returning in the near future

Went for lunch at The Ely today. They couldn’t find our booking but luckily said they could still fit us in, although said food was taking a while. They waiting staff were excellent, but they was only two of them & they were run ragged, still somehow managed to stay professional & friendly. Not enough staff front of house & probably not enough in the kitchen either as we had to wait an 1 1/4 hours for our main meal & order our drinks from the bar as we had to wait a long time to get table service. Nice surroundings, nice food, lovely staff but you can’t give 5 stars if there’s not enough staff on duty.

We only live a 10 minute drive away and have been saying for so long we must go there one Sunday! Finally today was the day! the pub was extremely busy due to several large group bookings so we did have a fair wait for our food, during this time our lovely waitress Helen kept us informed and was very prompt with drink Orders Finally our roasts arrived and wow! We eat out most Sundays so are no strangers to a good roast, this was superb! Roast potatoes possibly the best we’ve had, slow cooked rib of beef and the turkey were our chosen meats both so moist and delicious fabulous veg and lovely gravy! This most definitely won’t be our first and last visit for sure! Thank you Helen and the Ely we will be back soon

Fantastic food and even better front of house service from Amanda. I had the salt @ pepper Squid to start and Korean chicken as a main course. Service was quick, and Amanda made all those that sat down during my meal very welcome - nothing too much trouble. I’m staying at the hotel for three nights and I’ll be eating in every evening. Great value as well.

The Ely is lovely hotel. It has been recently decorated with warm modern features which makes it homely and unique, not like your standard sterile hotel rooms. There are chocolates in the room on arrival which is a nice touch along with a tea pot, biscuits and tea/coffees. The restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful, especially Amanda who always ensures everyone has what they need and nobody is left waiting or wanting. The menu has a good selection with an ever changing specials menu to ensure frequent guests dont get bored. The menus offer a good range of seafood along with venison, wild boar etc. not just the usual boring pub grub options.

Rooms are comfy, warm and well above Premier inn standards. Varied menu with good well priced food and brilliant service from Amanda in the restaurant and behind the bar. The only minus is if your a Ev driver, chargers appear to be out of action which would make this place a great stay with destination chargers.

We turned up at the end of dinner service, Simon the chef managed to whip up a roast beyond anything I've had before. With a few days or working away ahead of us myself and the team were grateful for such warm and friendly staff who truly went above and beyond the call to facilitate us. If ever you need a reason to stop in, get the roast. The potato's alone make it worth it.

Unbelievably friendly staff, an incredible looking place, warm, welcoming, with bags of character. Now, with the formalities out of the way I need to tell you about Simon's Roasts. These things are amazing. Amazing. Do you know what amazing means? Not this trivialised limp expression of above average, genuine amazement. That's a rare found thing. Come here. That's the review, come here and have a roast. Do it. Do it you coward.

Food was good but the peas were still frozen. Battered fish was really really good. We had the festive menu 2 course and it was good value for money but the service wasn’t great. We weren’t quite ready to order drinks and the waitress seemed fed up and never came back. Probably wont return.
