Looking for somewhere to stay near to Durdle Door we couldn't have found any better for us and our Campervan for a two night stay!
We were doing an ad hoc week around Dorset and late in the afternoon decided to head to the site at Durdle Door. We were only going for the day originally but the lure of the cliffside pitches got the better of us and for £20 per night we decided to head there.
Luckily the reception was open and the friendly lady gave us a choice of park pitch or cliff pitch. Both had essential hook up for our heater so we opted for the cliffs and so very glad we did! We were both surprised that we were the only van parked up there as the views are stunning and brought me to tears! Yes the ground is sloping and you need to use your blocks but watching the sunset and sunrise from this location from your van is hard to beat!
We ate in the restaurant on the first night as we had only enough food for a one night stay and even though there was a shop onsite we decided to teat ourselves to a meal out.
The Man O' War restaurant is your typical holiday park club house and very basic menu in a basic room with no real atmosphere but the welcome was friendly and very covid safe! I had the chicken curry and my husband the burger. I ordered an extra portion of chips as we were hungry but the portions were very generous and extra chips definitely weren't needed. Being stuffed we still managed to find room for a dessert and both had the lovely and very yummy vanilla cheesecake! The staff were so friendly and a credit to the park!
The facilities were pretty good. Toilets and showers very clean but perhaps slightly too hot showers but you can't set them perfectly for everyone and we only went up there once as we were closer to the public toilets on the cliff in the carpark and they were just more convenient.
I would recommend this site for making the most of your trip to the Lulworth area and Durdle Door and for only £5 more for a van to use the car park there for the day you may as well stay the night with electric and all the facilities of the site.

Where do I start ... Man of war bar and restaurant on arrival our hearts sank it had the worst atmosphere with a belligerent member of staff finding customers just too much trouble .We thought we would give it another go on our last evening I ordered ham and chips and the ham was the stringy bits you would normally feed the dog at the end of a ham joint . The other meals were average .
Move on to the "lodge" accommodation a 3 bedroom caravan . The twin bedrooms beds were so narrow at 24 Inches wide mattress sleeping was pretty much impossible as I am 8 stone lofty 5 footer and I struggled, my husband 6 foot slept with his knees up due to the wardrobe at the end of his bed being so near ...ok if you are a small child but not adult friendly with a minimum gap between the beds hardly wide enough to move sideways .
Due to the Covid 19 restrictions the lodge (caravan) needed extra cleaning so we were thrilled to find an old sock under one bed and a carrier bag under another how they escaped the deep clean i don't know.
We were a party of 6 and found only 5 settings of cutlery.
The outside space was a wooden picnic bench in the shade no decking just grass we didn't use it once
Not to be too negative the site is immaculate and well kept with access to Durdle door . The staff in reception are helpful and friendly also the store staff exceptionally welcoming.
On the whole we didn't feel it was value for money even though the location is great .

Thank you for taking the time to write your review of your stay. Firstly, I am sorry to hear your experience with the Man O'War Bar & Restaurant did not live up to your expectations. I will be passing that along to their management team along with another review from this week. To address the points you've put across regarding your stay - It's true that the bedrooms in Holiday Homes are small - this is a standard feature of static caravans I'm afraid so I can only apologise that you weren't comfortable. I am however dismayed to hear that you found things under the bed that shouldn't have been, I sincerely apologise. I hope that otherwise you found your accommodation to be clean and that you felt safe being there. I'm sorry also that items seemed to have been missing - if you had notified Reception of this we would have happily delivered these to you right away. Yes, we have a picnic bench outside each Holiday Home on which our guests can enjoy good weather and dine al fresco. I'm afraid none of our Holiday Homes has a decking per se - they do have a decked walkway to the main door (fab for keeping dogs from jumping straight out when you open the door!). I hope you enjoyed the local area and overall had a lovely stay.

Had real reservations about going on a camping trip, as this is not something I have done! However when friends offered an opportunity to go down to the Jurrasic Coast, I accepted.

I am not sure what I was expecting, however over my two night stay I was pleseantly surprised. The location as many other people have pointed out is spot on, a five minute walk from Durdle Door. We had enough space on our pitch and all other campers on the site were respectful of one another. Most of the campsite is under the cover of trees in which probably a million crows live(!), so you always had their noise in the background, but that wasn't really a problem.

Yes the shower / toilet block is tired, but without having anything else to compare it to it did the job. Never had to wait for a shower and this was always warm. What Covid measures could be put in place were done as well as they could be; sanitizer by the shower / toilet blocks, maximum number in at any one time. The pub made you sign in and then you were directed to social distant tables. The shop had enough stock and the staff at both the pub and the shop were very pleasent.

Overall, I would be happy to come back to this site. Mind you, we did have good weather; I am not sure I would be so keen if it had been wet and cold!

This is such a great review for other would-be first-time campers! I'm really happy that you had a great first time camping and that you chose Durdle Door to try it out. We think we're great for first-timers because the feel of the Rookery is relaxed and sheltered, with real character (thanks to the rooks!!). We hope you'll come back next time to experience a camping pod or Skylight Cabin!

Loved our stay here. My boyfriend and I booked to stay here for three nights and loved it. The campsite pitches are perfect, not allocated but found a good spot nonetheless as did everyone around. No one was crammed around us and it was a lovely atmosphere. We loved the rooks, although they woke us up early that’s what staying in nature is all about and they were there before us at the end of the day!!

We found it to be very peaceful, no noisy neighbours and everyone abiding to social distancing and campsite rules. Lovely shady pitches which is great!

The on-site shop was brilliant, we did majority of food shopping before but it was great for top up bits and meat for the barbecue. Prices were reasonable.

The on-site showers and toilet blocks were lovely, saw them being cleaned and sanitised very regularly and were up to scratch. Pot wash room also clean and had a freezer for ice packs which was great as it was 30+ degrees during our stay.

Overall great stay, helpful staff and would definitely return!!

Booked for 8 nights from 23rd July and on arriving did notice how sloping the pitches where if you have a low number pitch, unfortunately we did P6 and spent ages trying to get level enough and leg extensions was at max and used bricks and blocks used but was also hard as everything else was on a slant, table and awning storage and at that level the awning was just not right also.
We was also under trees not good as awning covered in bird poo and noise from the rooks in the morning was not good, spent 2 hours cleaning the awning on final day.
And no sun from lunch time due to tree cover.
Noise from campsite located behind the tree line was not good after 10pm from what seamed to be groups of people.
One point that I think needs addressing was the security as did notice that there was no check point to stop anybody from the carpark just wondering through and had first hand experience of this happening so I knew there these people where not staying at the park.

Good Points
Showers good
Shop Good
High number pitches had better level pitches and more sun
If your a walker then great location
Great for Motor homes

Bad Points

Low Pitch numbers not good for caravan ( level and trees )
Bird noise
Pitch base rocks to big not much space for awnings if want soft under foot.
Security
Tough walk to beach for kids, did once that was enough
Could empty bins more
Hedges to high in between pitches

On a whole was used just as a base and thought we could of found better for the price we paid, would not return while the kids are young but perfect site for Motorhomes for a few nights.
Did the walk down to the beach once and that was enough real killer coming back

Thanks for taking the time to submit your thoughts on our Abbeyfield touring pitches. It's really helpful for other people to see your thoughts so they can make a decision about what is important to them during their holiday. I always find it so interesting that some of the points you have mentioned that aren't to your liking are things that others really enjoy, for example the hedges that provide both shade cover for families with small children and privacy for those who want privacy! To address some of your points; you're right that some of our pitches are slopy, we have explicitly said so on our website so we do believe that our guests know what they are booking. I'm really pleased to see that you found the showers good as well as the on-site shop and our fantastic location! We hope to see you back again when your children are a little bit older. Best wishes.

Just came back from a 4 night stay in a static caravan on the site, we came with our dog and had an amazing time! Our caravan was absolutely spotless, very thoroughly cleaned, and all of the appliances looked brand new. The park is in a stunning location, with very good access for walking to local beaches (although very steep!). Staff in the restaurant, shop and reception were very polite and friendly. It was a shame we couldn’t take our dog into the restaurant, but we obviously understood because of the coronavirus, and had takeaway a couple of nights anyway which was also lovely. I would highly recommend staying at the Durdle Door Holiday Park!

I think we were next to Sandra in a review below
We did have a lovely time with a cycle into West Lulworth for a meal at the Castle Inn on our first night.
The second and third night when we had planned to eat at the Man oh War restaurant onsite but it was closed, as was the shop
I went to reception to ask why they were shut and was told they are[ shut every Tuesday and Wednesday.
When I asked why we had not been informed of this in advance .
The guy behind reception raised his arms up and and said I'm night security nothing to do with me.
I asked him what exactly we were supposed to do for food that night and he just shrugged.
Now bear in mind previous to our stay I received 3 emails to inform me the showers were not open why did they not inform me at the same time that the restaurant and shop were closed.
Had I known that all the facilities were closed for 2 out of 3nights I would not have booked this site.
Despite the park being half empty they allocated us P3 right under the trees where a family of rooks were feeding their young.
The screeching of the young for food started at 4am and went on to 9.00pm
And the massive dollops of bird poo ontop of my motor home are testament to this.
What a shame management dont give a stuff.
Durdle door was beautiful.
Just be warned this was the backdrop of a several Bollywood movies and from 7am to 8.pm is a mecca for Bollywood enthusiasts to visit.

Thank you for your review, I'm really sorry to read that the rooks impacted your stay in such a way. I can assure you that we do care about our guests' enjoyment of your holiday, we really want you to have a fantastic time with us and so I am dismayed to read your feedback which reflects your 1-star rating. I'm afraid that the nationwide shortage of staff has affected our ability to open the Man O'War Bar & Restaurant full time at present and we do look forward to opening fully again as soon as we are able to. I'm very sorry that this occurred over the time of your stay. I hope that despite the setbacks you faced you enjoyed your time in Lulworth and Durdle Door.

We stayed here two nights in a Skylight Cabin which was spotlessly clean, cosy and well equiped and we loved it! It was also quiet and more private than expected with parking next to it. We saw and heard all the crows mentioned in the previous reviews, however in the cabin this did not affect us. The shop on site was useful. They were helpful in reception and on arrival we had some issue with the shower, but they sent someone over within 5 minutes who sorted it for us. We also noticed security out in the evenings asking someone with loud music to obey the 11pm curfew and we saw them in the golf buggy at the car park checking all was well, so we felt very safe and that the site was being well run. It was a shame we never got to eat in the Man o War restaurant as the first night they stopped serving at 8.30pm, when we arrived and the next night they served no food all day at all! Apparently Tuesday and Wednesdays they don't serve food! We had problems finding ANYWHERE to get food in the area, the local pubs were all booked, nowhere served after 8.30, no local shops or take aways, had to drive to the Brewers Fayre in Weymouth half an hour away just for a meal, so book up in advance or bring your own food as there is not much around at all! The beaches were wonderful and so scenic, far better than expected and we were lucky with the weather, but there are no facilities at all anywhere near the beach. We were not aware it was such a long walk and so steep with so many deep steps, so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues and not family friendly. It did not seem safe with no handrails and slippery small stones and the day we arrived a lady fell down the cliffside and died.

Was looking forward to a relaxing time sitting outside in good weather enjoying peace, quiet and fresh air.

We got the weather and fresh air!

Perhaps our expectations were higher and therefore such disappointment on arrival.

I expected some overlooking but to be honest there is little or no space not overlooked therefore no privacy. I didn’t expect to sit in a unit with curtains closed just to keep the outside world away and the consistent noise is unbelievable. Fellow holiday makers were considerate and I only had to ask one group to keep quiet circa 11pm

I made staff aware of my concerns and disappointment who were professional however confirmed couldn’t do anything as the site was full.

The caravan itself is spacious and clean (Mattress too big for the bed and gas knobs slightly off line do ensure turn off properly).

Sitting outside should be a pleasant experience however with a view of the back of a sales office with two gas cylinders and the main entrance with constant traffic and deliveries and the children’s play area with a zip wire there is no chance of drifting off to sleep. Sitting at a park bench in noisy surroundings is not relaxing however there are pubs not too far that are excellent (Castle inn, Lulworth).

There is a small balcony on the unit but the bench is on the grass where you can park your car. Everyone walks past.

So noisy can hear all car doors, delivery vans and early/late chatter but worst was the grass cutting from before 8am one morning. I know it’s a big job to be done but why so early, earliest should be 9am.

Don’t get me wrong the park is a great location and well organised with children’s play area/bar and a well run shop.

The camping pods and skylight cabins seem to be in a great location.

Perhaps at booking confirmation the Park could confirm the location of the unit to allow clients to confirm acceptable prior to final balance being paid. I certainly would not have booked this unit.

It is unfortunate to be so dissatisfied for a much needed break at what is not a cheap holiday.

In short. Nice place for couple of days. Don’t expect to be quiet and relaxing!

This review won’t be a shock as exactly what I highlighted to the park however felt a correct review shouldn’t be withheld.

Hello, thank you again for making your feelings known. I'm sorry you weren't pleased with the location of your Holiday Home. It's true that your particular unit did overlook our Sales Office and I appreciate this doesn't suit everybody. I'm not sure whether this was your first time staying in a Holiday Park, but it's true that by the nature of static caravans there is some degree of being overlooked. This is the same at most Holiday Parks I'm afraid. We do have Holiday Homes to let on a wide variety of plots both within the Holiday Park as well as by our Reception area, so a handy hint is to make your preference known at the time of booking so that we can do our best to accommodate this. I'm afraid that since we are very family friendly, the noise of children having fun in the Adventure Playpark is inevitable - they love it! I'm pleased that you've noted some of the great features we do offer - our location truly is unrivalled and our friendly team members will always go above and beyond to make sure our guests enjoy their stay. I hope you will come back again and experience another part of the Park which may be more to your liking.

We stayed three nights in the skylight cabin. The cabin was awesome and well equipped with gas hob, fridge freezer, etc. The heating and fire kept us toastie on the first night which was a little chilly and the blinds kept out the sun when it was super hot. The upstairs bed wasn’t the comfiest and was 2 single mattresses but there is the option of converting the couch and dining area into beds too.

Parking next to the cabin was really convenient and we had our own bench on our decking area. Contact free check in was great and Durdle Door is only a very short walk away.

Previous reviews mentioned the loud birds but we didn’t notice the noise at all when inside the cabin.

We dined at the Man O War restaurant on the first night, we were lucky to get a table as they were fully booked from 7.30pm. They are currently closed and/or close early for food on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so beware, there is no other place to get food unless you drive. The on site convenience store closed at 6pm too, but does stock burgers, kebabs etc. for a BBQ or to cook in your cabin.

It goes without saying the views of and around Durdle Door are beautiful. We walked to lulworth cove too which was only 30 minutes away but beware both walks have super steep hills/steps. Lulworth Cove has much more amenities - shops, restaurants, cafes, whereas there are little to none at Durdle Door.

If the amenities at the holiday park were available everyday / longer hours it would have been 5 stars. Also check in is pretty late at 4pm but we drove 5+ hours anyway so it worked out ok for us. Check out is a little early at 10am but I understand that they need to air the cabin and clean etc. for the next guests and leave a a certain amount of time due to covid.
