Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From start to finish, just so disappointed, as was a few days away with family, but the service and facilities was in no way what is advertised on websites, Tried to get a drink upon arrival around 4pm, told bar shut and never opened during the day at all. Wasn’t allowed to eat in restaurant area off the bar, as shut all the time, made fo eat in bar area on low tables with 2 elderly people. Had to look for someone to serve in bar, as not manned. Many guests came in and walked away be because of this. They ran out of gas first night so no pumps working and was told it had been reported a few days before but not fixed!. Shutters went down one night by 9.45! Breakfast first morning a mix up. Told to preorder with our time slot, came down, noticed it had changed to buffet, and no food left! Had to wait while they cooked what was on our order Evening Menu choices extremely poor, very small and limited, mostly chip meals. Wedding Saturday, so felt like guests were forgotten as staff available were looking after the wedding party, hence bar closed. Had to move rooms one night, as had a visitor in our room…a mouse! Whilst the member of staff acted quickly and moved us, one doesn’t expect fo have fo pack up and move at 10pm, as well as having unwanted visitors! The hotel was extremely understaffed and those that were there went out their way to do the best they could. The front desk lady, Lynne? Was lovely and did say they can’t get staff. I don’t usually write reviews, but I wanted to be open and honest, and let others know and be prepared for some things being not what they are advertising on website. Hopefully when more staff are hired, then facilities will be as,they should be, and take the pressure of the staff that are there.

This review is written on behalf of my husband who had a 3 night golf break with 3 friends - The Golf Boys

Whilst I understand other reviews saying the hotel is tired and in need of some updating, we found it to be clean with all necessary facilities.

The staff were very friendly and efficient.

We only had breakfast which was perfectly acceptable, however one small criticism would be that the breakfast sausage is awful.

Overall we found Lakeside to be good value for money.

Special mention goes to Sayed the bar manager who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

Do not be fooled by the pictures and the website. This is possibly the worst hotel experience I have had. The wifi was so weak I couldn’t have a teams meeting unless I went outside and used 4g. The shower was a mere dribble unless you were prepared to sacrifice the warm water for cold. The hotel offered NO food or drink between breakfast and dinner. The advertised pool and gym are no longer open. The dinner menu was limited and not a vegetable in sight other than peas and it was definitely overpriced. The hotel seemed to have a stale smoke smell despite smoking being banned nearly 20 years ago. I’m putting this down to the fact that I don’t think the hotel has been decorated since that time!
The breakfast was awful - sausages with about 1% meat content and fried eggs that you could have played tennis with they were so hard. The juice was watered down by about at least 200/1 so it was more like slightly flavoured water. Luckily there was toast and crunchy nut cornflakes.
The room was spacious and I had a Lake view although it is spoiled by some dilapidated structures on the other side of the lake. The bed was comfortable though.
The only saving grace was the waiting and bar staff were friendly. The reception staff were also friendly apart from an older lady who seemed like she was a supervisor or manager. She was very gruff and dismissive of the poor wifi situation and spoke very rudely in front of me to the younger receptionist when I was checking out.
I’m sure this was an amazing hotel in its time circa 1980, but seriously, do not waste your time or money on this hotel unless you really only need a bed for the night and nothing else.

This is the worst hotel I have ever been too. Firstly driving 2 hours to this hotel to be told all the facilities are shut (however on the website it clearly states they are open) After the rude lady who spoke to me like a bit of s**t on her shoe on reception took our money. we mainly booked this hotel because it had a pool, she told us to book somewhere else and the money will be back in our bank ‘immediately’. 2 days later and having to book and pay for another hotel, still no money! Joke of a hotel.

From the moment we walked in the staff were so accommodating and attentive with the children and gave them bread to feed the carp in the lake. Sayed the manager did above and beyond to makes us feel welcome. The rooms were spotless and clean to a very high standard and the grounds and lake beautiful and relaxing. Sayed and Lin were so attentive and eager to please and the food we had from the restaurant was good value and very good quality. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend this place for a lovely experience

We were looking for a budget one night stay away and this is what we picked and what a dive it is. We turned up to an empty car park and half a dozen men drinking beers at the hotel entrance. Check in was fine and our room was fine albeit completely run down and in need of refurbishment. We have a two year old and there was no cot despite asking for one on the booking. We rang reception about the baby cot and they said they don’t do them… so we put the single bed on its side and the mattress on the floor. And yes it has a big metal key to get in the room and that says it all really; it’s always a bad sign these days when you’re given a large metal key to get in your room. We also got a message saying the leisure facilities are closed. The bar was empty but I managed to take a nice pint up to the room. My wife picked me up on my expectations and said this is a rememberable adventure. Haven’t had breakfast yet, I suspect I will stick to milk and cereal.

Hotel is a bit 'old school' but as it would cost the budget of a medium sized country to renovate it to modern standards i guess it'll have to stay how it is. Decent value for money as we booked will in advance. Staff were excellent. Check in was easy enough and the room was ready early so can't complain. Not had an actual metal key for a room for probably a decade so that was a bit strange. It was that big i left it in the car when i went out! Could do with a couple more bar staff on when there is a large event next door as the poor lad serving had a queue of about 30 punters at one point. The manager did come to help in fairness but he must have been about 16 hours into his shift as he was around when we checked in. Overall a decent stay.

Stayed here for 1 night as in the area for a birthday party.
Easily found and check in was easy.
Had room 179 a deluxe double.
We had a balcony, fridge, air con, coffee machine and the most comfortable bed.
I do agree with with other reviews that the hotel is old and out of date, really does need a lot of work but it suited our needs for n overnighter. We came back in late evening and stayed in the pool room.
Sayid was a fantastic barmen who kept us topped up with drinks and snacks throughout until he knocked off.
Breakfast was nice the next morning but was a little slow in restocking the food as there were quite a number of customers in at the same time.
Booked on booking.com so price was about what we expected to pay for bed and breakfast.

This hotel is stuck in a time warp. We stayed here 11 years ago and it hasn't had a lick of paint since then? The bed was rock hard and the breakfast was one of the worst I've ever had. The food was overcooked, super greasy and completely cold. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because the guy behind reception was really polite, professional and helpful. We won't be coming back.

Received email the day before our stay to inform us that the pool and gym were closed. Was too short notice to book elsewhere, was declined a partial refund by reception staff. The hotel is old, dated and eerily empty - reminded me very much of the hotel in the shining. The room itself was freezing cold - no warm air coming from the air conditioning and I had to sleep in my coat. The shower was pathetic, with just a mist spraying. One towel between 2 people. Don’t get me started on the food.. worse than school canteen quality and ridiculously over priced. Half frozen chips and mushrooms out of a tin. The only good thing about the place was the barman, he was really nice and helpful. Wouldn’t recommend to anybody, it’s awful.
