The initial external impression of the hotel is good , unfortunately it’s all downhill on entering the reception and bedrooms. Our bedroom had very tired furniture ,fittings and decoration. Bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment.

Stayed in this wonderful hotel for the first time last week, we were a party of eleven. We were so impressed we have booked two dates already for next year. The attention to detail is unbelievable, quality local produce used by the chef, spotless rooms with brand name refreshments. At the breakfast never had to ask for extra coffee tea toast or butter, it just appeared without having to ask. The manager Jalal introduced himself to us and he just couldn’t do enough to make our stay comfortable and one we will not forget. All the staff bend over backwards to make you feel welcome, it’s a very well run good feel place to stay. I can’t wait to return. Thank you Jalal and all the staff for a very memorable stay. See you all soon. Barry Mc Allister.

My husband and I spent last weekend here to celebrate his birthday. What an amazing place! Location absolutely stunning. The hotel is bursting with character. The staff polite and smiley. Our room was gorgeous but don’t expect top notch high tech gadgets, this is a very old property and the plumbing reflects this! We had fab walks along the river Tay. As has been said before the food is outstanding! Our evening meal was Michelin standard without a doubt. I’m shocked that an earlier reviewer felt £55 was excessive. We have paid twice that in Michelin restaurants for less impressive food. All in all a fantastic break. We will definitely return and recommend most highly to others. Thank you all at Ballathie.

Room Tip: I think the hotel main rooms look better than riverside lodges. Get a river view if possible

When you look out of the lounge windows to where the lawns slope down to the River Tay, you will see why this hotel’s location takes some beating: the surroundings are just beautiful. We didn’t dine here, as we were visiting family, but heard other guests saying how great their dinner was. We stayed in the Riverside annexe: if you want a quiet room, ask for no. 17. It’s at the end of the corridor on the first floor and has a double aspect, with views down to the river.

An amazing place, we had 1st floor Riverside which was perfect for us and the dogs, we even slept with the balcony door open! Spacious room and very clean and tidy. Food was out of this world, Scott you are amazing. Jalal and Michael looked after us in the evenings to exceptionally high standard. My only downside was not spotting a red squirrel in the woods...what a shame I will have to come back!! 10 out of 10 We will return....!!
