Detailed Reviews
We have visited twice now and both times have had a really lovely time. We stayed in a safari tent as a family of four. We had loads of space. The beds were comfortable and the tent had a log burner which we could light in the evenings if needed. The kitchen is well equipped. You access your own shower via undercover. The toilet is a good experience as well. On the site there are woods to explore and children can have a paddle in the stream. The tents are nicely spaced out from each other and each one has a fire pit. Ooh there's also a hot tub as well! We took balls, Frisbees, nerf darts and bubbles to play with. The tents are on the edge of the field so the children can play in the middle and just have such a lovely free time. Becky the owner also invites you to help feed the chickens on your visit. She also offers a pony ride to small children for a small charge as well. Becky, John and their team are really nice and really care that you have a good holiday. A lot of thought and love is put into the site but you don't feel over looked even though its on a family run site. Would definitely visit again.

We have just come back from a lovely 4 night 5 day stay at cuckoo down farm and from the moment we arrived it was excellent we can’t fault Becky and Jon they where great hosts always checking if we were ok as we had a few nights of windy/wet weather, the yurt we stayed in buttercup was beautiful and had plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 children, the facility’s are top quality no need to take anything there is everything you need there it’s brilliant, the wood burner was lovely it made evenings super cosy, the bed are so comfortable with excellent quality bedding and pillows, the shower facility’s where super clean and the shower was lovely and hot and charging the points are a huge benefit in the barn.
The farm is lovely and perfect for family’s my girls loved splashing in the stream in there wellies so much and walking past the chickens everyday and going to see the pony, it’s in a great location close to so many lovely parts of Devon sadly the weather wasn’t always on our side but that honestly didn’t stop us having fun.
We ate out most days and had fish and chips from roseys in the town which was nice, we also ate at the bowd inn in Sidmouth which is great for family’s, and also the lamb and flag again in town which was a set menu due to eat out to help out but the food was really lovely.
I honestly can’t recommend cuckoo down farm enough this was our first glamping holiday and it certainly won’t be our last especially to cuckoo down farm.

We wanted to mark the milestone of our first child starting school.. so took advantage of the first week of September to pack with memories of the farm, glamping experience and rock-pooling!
Happy that our time at Cuckoo Down met with expectations. Lovely to have the kids (aged 1 and 4) free to run around and relaxing by the yurt, roasting marshmallows.
Jacobs ladder beach was great. Not very busy either and a good chance to try rock pooling.
Staying in a yurt we decided to take a
Gazebo with us to join up with kitchen and fire pit area. This proved handy and would recommend.
Also recommend outdoor toy and games. We even took a small slide from home! Kite flying was a hit too.
Toilet. A pleasant experience. Can’t fault it.
For smaller kids I’d suggest to bring a loo seat as you would have at home. This was helpful for our daughter. Careful not to drop anything down the loo as you’d unlikely want to retrieve it!
I’d recommend having your log burner prepared in advance in daylight and ready to light. Worthwhile getting some extra natural firefighters. Logs and kindling are well priced and stock piled high in the storage area at the edge of the field.
Becky was great, very responsive and helpful. Pony ride and chickens were a big hit. If you do have the chance- try the eggs!
I think the success of our visit was confirmed when my wife said she’d come back! She was a little apprehensive beforehand but was won over!!
Thank you

Just got back from a long weekend and already cannot wait to get back next year, but for longer as we did not want to leave.
The yurts and safari tents are really spaced out so you are not on top of each other.
The location is gorgeous and very peaceful.
Staff are very approachable and welcoming. . Even when we did arrive an hour early.
Love all the recycling and compost.. so encourages everyone to go green.
Best bit. . When the horse is walked through the camp field to their grazing field, so basically you feel a part of the owners daily life and not made to feel we are out of their eyesight.
You get a fridge which is held in a barn near the house as the tents only have solar power. . We left a fridge full of food and 6 bottles of wine in ours. . Unlocked. I was worried at first (I mean. . Wine!!) But all was totally safe and left untouched. . They also have a row of plugs for you to charge your electrical. .and more showers.
Anyway, what a beautiful place. . AND THE BEDS ARE HEAVENLY!!
I had the four poster all to myself as my husband slept in the little high sleeper with the doors shut!! So win win !!!!
Thanks Becky for an amazing stay

We stayed in wild rose bell tent, i wasn’t sure what to expect as they have no photos on the website of it. It was AMAZING! It’s set in its own fenced off field away from the rest of the other glamping tents, so perfect for us as we brought our spaniel, so she could be off lead all the time. The inside of the tent was so spacious and well furnished, made us feel right at home. The only thing we couldn’t get to work very well was the log burning hot tub, it never got up to a comfortable temperature. Perfect trip away, would highly recommend!

Hello! Thank you for a lovely review, so glad you enjoyed your stay. Another time please do ask for help with the hot tub, the key to it is to burn several logs at once for quite a while to get it up to temperature initially - we could have helped you with this. If any other guest is struggling please do let us know. Best wishes Becky and John

My bridesmaids booked tents for a group of us to stay for my hen. It was the perfect setting, and really was a true glamping experience with hot showers and toilets close to our tents. Well equipped kitchens meant we had everything we needed to cook on site. Beds were super comfy with lovely warm duvets too! The log fired hot tubs were an added bonus. Becky was really helpful during the booking process and made sure we all enjoyed our stay. Such a great glamping site, would highly recommend!! Thanks again xx

I booked Cuckoo Down farm for my mums 70th
We had a party of 14 adults, 7 children and a baby. We had the whole glamping site to ourselves and it was absolutely perfect
The safari tents and yurt were well equipped, cosy and spotless. We enjoyed soaking in the hot tubs and sitting round the fire pits of an evening
The area is beautiful and tranquil, with a private woods that has a stream where the children had a wonderful time
Becky was a fantastic host and made us feel very relaxed and welcome, she even offered the younger children a ride on the resident pony and let them visit the sheep at feeding time
If you are looking to spend some quality time with your family just getting away from it all then cuckoo down farm is the place to go.
Its perfect for family get togethers as you have your own individual area for your accommodation where you can have your own downtime and plenty of space for you to get together for evening for BBQs, games or chilling by the fire pit
We are already looking at dates to go back next year

We spent the last week of the summer holidays at Cuckoo down farm with our 6 and 4 year old.
On arrival the staff were so friendly and helpful and the kids loved being on a farm with sheepdog, chickens, horses etc.
For some reason they couldn’t find our name on the booking but from the very start they told us not to worry and it would all be ok.
To our amazement, they came back and gave us an upgrade to a safari tent with a log burning hot tub!
The tent and facilities were all excellent and the owners were so helpful whilst we were there helping with getting the log burner going!
As well as our tent, we had a lovely forest to explore with its own stream and the kids loved it!
It’s a great location with many beaches and attractions under 30 mins away.
If you are looking for a real peaceful getaway, I would recommend as this was off the beaten track (beautifully silent!) and you have so much space between tents that you are not over looked.
Thank you so much for a great week. Happy to recommend to anyone with kids looking for a stay away.
The hot tub was a real winner with the kids!!

The long weekend we have just spent at Cuckoo Down farm feels like we have been away for a relaxing week. Becky and John are the perfect hosts and we will continue this tradition of returning as we have for over a decade. Every year it gets better and better. Beautiful countryside and the Safari tents have everything you need, along with the hot tub and magical views.
The beds and pillows are so comfortable - I slept like a baby! The attached shower was hot and instant . I loved the composting toilets with their pretty curtains and colourful painted walls.
The beautiful coloured throws and cushions make it feel cozy next to the log fire.
The internal lights were a new addition and really welcome as the nights draw in.
Our dog is now home and bereft at not being able to run free.
We loved the walk along the River Otter into town followed by a superb lunch at The Volunteer. All 10 of us and four dogs were catered for with a smile and friendly service.
When you stay at cuckoo down you don’t feel like a paying guest, you feel like a part of something special.
Thank you for an amazing weekend, see you next year.

Fantastic place in the Devon countryside for a family holiday. We stayed in the sweet pea Yurt and found it to be very well equipt and very clean and cosy. Location is beautiful , our 5 year old absolutely loved it. The icing on the cake was the owner Becky organised a pony ride and feeding the chickens for our daughter and the other children on the site. Nothing was too much trouble, would highly recommend.
