We booked our work Christmas party at Thornton Manor for the Twenties Themed event. It was without doubt the best Christmas party we have been to for many years. There was entertainment right from the start whilst we were waiting to go into the main part of the marquee for the meal. It was wonderful to see how the 20s theme was carried through with the costumes and dancers, and we were even given 20s themed headwear at the tables! The food and service was first class, and I think it has been the first time that plates have been collected at the end of the meal with nothing left!! The marquee was beautifully decorated, and had the added attraction of a small fund-raising casino, and dodgems for the adventurous! Another positive, was that the toilets were continually staffed and being cleaned on an on -going basis. Overall, an excellent, enjoyable and memorable event.

We booked a romantic 3 night break in Manor House 1, it is very traditional although fabulous, us being used to ultra modern and travelling abroad this staycation was very different but exceptional in a different way, the history of a Thornton manor is amazing the cottage is fabulous, the one improvement I would recommend is the back yard where the hot tub is located.needs upgrading,,, some artificial grass to soften the area some softer outside lighting because ultimately one of the biggest attractions for all couples will be the outdoor hot tub and it’s a little grey and depressing.

The house itself comfy beds a nice little kitchen to which we cooked some lovely food and a fantastic Georgian dining room that really was special.

The grounds - I ran around the grounds each morning with gardens and paths and lakes and woods it was absolutely beautiful I have attached some photographs I even had a chat with the owner and said if I hadn’t already married my wife I would do it all again ant the lake house marque it’s that beautiful....

The location has some lovely little villages to visit we went to Heswell, park gate and New Brighton all nice for very different reasons.

We got married on 28.12.19 in the Manor House and had the most perfect day ever. On the run up to the wedding we were in regular contact with all of the wedding coordinators all of which were an absolute dream to work with.

Please don’t take into account the 1* review below in this thread, we too had to swap our caterers because of them going into liquidation but absolutely all of this was handled so smoothly by Thornton Manor and we actually got an amazing deal in the end!! Thornton Manor highly recommend you get wedding insurance (which we did and got a full refund) the caterers are nothing to do with Thornton Manor and yet the venue went above and beyond to make it as stress free as possible!!!

On the day of our wedding everything went amazingly, they even let me set up a day early due to there being no wedding in the day before which was fantastic.

Rooms we stayed in were fantastic and really in keeping with the character of the venue, would highly recommend the gate house to stay in the night before.

The Manor House- WOW! Everyone commented on how stunning the venue was and if you get married at Christmas like we did it is fully decked out with gorgeous decorations and Christmas trees.

Every member of staff I dealt with was just fantastic and nothing was too much for them.

Thank you Thornton Manor for the most amazing, stress free wedding day.

We got married here the other year. The venue itself is stunning, but leading up to it was pure stress and little support. I was told we can have the venue to decorate the day before the wedding, so I bought and hired everything to decorate it.I Confirmed with them about 3 weeks before the wedding and they said it was fine.
I was having my last dress fitting 3 days before the wedding, and got talking to another bride to be, it turns out she booked lakeside marquee the day before mine! I rang Thornton manor who said yes was a last minute wedding so I couldn’t have the venue the day before. I headed down to try and sort it and they said I’d have to get someone to decorate it. I was frantically Ringing round all company’s who were all booked up. Thankfully my friends mum organised it for me. I thought I would confirm cottage which was free if I booked the venue.. to be told that’s not on the deal! The person I booked it with has left so they can’t confirm. After a frustrating discussion with the manager, they gave us the cheapest cottage free.
We had to use there DJs. The DJ was £400 and the first song played was tragedy! My Husband has to keep asking for different songs, as steps and cringing songs was played, in the end one the ushers connected his phone and saved us!
That is just 2 of the main issues, there was several more. At the same time it is the most beautiful wedding venue and all the guests commented how stunning it all was. If the management could just be more accommodating then it would be the most booked up wedding venue.

Booked a 2 night stay in the Thatched Pavilion for a birthday celebration. Everything about this place is amazing; the grounds, facilities and the staff. Was warmly greeted at reception by Liza who explained everything to me, gave me the keys, a wifi box and advised where we could go out for dinner.
Liza then arranged for Karl to escort us to the cottage. The drive up to the cottage was absolutely stunning. Its located away from all the other cottages so you really do have the place to yourselves. The cottage itself was very spacious, spotless and so cosy. Karl was so lovely, he showed us how to use the hot tub and how to get it to the right temperature. Jo came and set up the extra bed for us and got us some extra towels, tea bags and coffees. She was really friendly and they both went the extra mile for us, making sure we were comfortable before they left us so we could have a fab weekend. Definitely an asset to the Mannor!!
The kitchen was fully equipped so we were able to cook a meal on the first night and make breakfast. There is underfloor heating that was amazing on these cold autumn nights. The bathrooma are very modern with a huge bath in one and an amazing power shower in the other. The beds are very comfy and the furnishings have a lot of charm and character.
Will definitely be returning in the future. The pictures don't even do the place justice. Its so beautiful you have to see it with your own eyes.
Can't fault the place!!!

I was simply blown away with the whole experience at Thornton Manor.
We stayed in the East Lodge in the grounds and was a complete 5* experience.
Even the little details of this little cottage break made it even more special i.e the complimentary breakfast basket and fresh milk and Juice. And walking in to Classic Fm on the television and the lamps on made it so home from home.
Beds where extremely comfortable and everywhere immaculate.
Hot tub was ready to go and a perfect little location around the side of the cottage. Made it even more a treat for us.
Id highly recommended this cottage with its two floors exquisite bedroom upstairs and perfect bathroom and with its rural charm and decor inside and the bathrooms matched the period perfectly.
Thank you so much for making this well needed break so perfect.

We paid £140 per couple with breakfast in the accommodation for the 2 bedroom Gardeners Mews. The breakfast that was left for us consisted of 2 apples, 2 oranges, 1 tiny loaf of Hovis brown bread, 2 variety pack sizes of fruit and fibre, 1 of crunchy nut cornflakes and a couple of individually wrapped Weetabix. Appalling for the price we paid. The shower seal in the bathroom was dark green with slime. Nothing luxury about this accommodation in the slightest.

Our table at the wedding we were attending were served our mains with no potatoes. This was queried and they said they’d run out but nothing was provided as an alternative. We tried to buy some bottles of Prosecco but no chilled bottles were available for some reason.

The young staff serving the canapés were very sweet and we really appreciated the staff dropping us off at the marquee and giving us a lift back to the room later in the evening. Grounds are lovely.

Hi, Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry to hear that you did not completely enjoy your stay with us and i do believe that some of the issues could of been easily rectified, had they been raised. I will try from the details given to discover the caterers that served your wedding and investigate further as to why you was not given any potatoes or alternatives. I hope your experience wasn't all doom and gloom and you had a pleasant time at the event you was attending. Despite the obvious issues raised. Many Thanks The Thornton Manor Team

We booked accommodation at this venue for my brothers wedding which was sadly cancelled by the venue due to COVID-19. Thornton manor are refusing to refund any guests accommodation fees even though they cancelled. Management ignore calls, emails and when you finally speak to them they are very rude. Avoid this place like the plague.

On arrival told two weddings were on and we couldn’t use any of the gardens to the front of the manor or go round the lake. We got chased by a old man as the lady of the manor was shouting out of the window “get rid of them they shouldn’t be here” when he caught up with us and we informed him we were actually staying at the property still rude as we couldn't be to the rear of the manor due to the weddings so there was actually no where we could go. The gent clarified this when he said the wedding get priority due to the amount they pay (indicating that anyone else’s money is irrelevant when a wedding is on) Got woken up early before 10am with the bins being emptied right to the side of the cottage and a early morning ballet session turning up no mention of this not even when we arrived! Got to site got told the cottage was ready from reception where they took a large holding deposit (again no mention of this prior) got to the cottage and the cleaners said we need to wait 30minutes as there not finished when we were allowed in it was dirty the black wheely bin in rear yard was over flowing, the tea cups still had lipstick on from previous occupant, floors were mopped but not brushed or hoovered prior, there was cobwebs holding the light shades to the walls,I counted five broken pains of glass in the windows, the arm of the chair was all ripped, marks on all the walls on the stairs up to the rooms, the hot tub was leaking all in the rear yard which was grubby and hadn’t been cleaned, the morning after when we were woken up there was rat droppings all over the top of the hot tub, the blinds didn’t work they look to have been fitted incorrectly. The cottage itself sleeps 4-6 there is 6 beds available but there was only 4 seats in the hot tub so if a party of 6 attend two would have to sit out which isn’t convenient.
Very disappointed this cottage is £365 a night we luckily got a discount to £195 though a booking.com offer but I’m still disappointed and 100% won’t be going back paying full price if that’s the service you get. Oh it’s attached.

Just held our daughters wedding in the Manor House, what an amazing venue! You have exclusive use of the Manor House for the wedding and the building is truly a photographer’s dream, so many amazing rooms sumptuously appointed and grand in proportion. The grounds are magnificent and again have some perfect photo opportunities. Plenty of quieter lounges for guests that need a bit of quiet time. We were not so lucky with the weather but as the Manor is so atmospheric it really lends itself to indoor shoots too. The whole team could not have been more helpful and courteous especially with some of our older relatives. All the guests that stayed over in the main house and the cottages had a great time. You need to note that this is an old Manor House and the furnishings reflect the style and age of the property. The wedding breakfast was superb and we booked a post wedding breakfast for the guests staying over which was lovely, a nice touch was the table had candelabras with lit candles for our breakfast - a lovely touch. As this was the 4th time of moving the booking due to restrictions we were so grateful to the team for the helpful way this was managed and so happy to finally have had an amazing wedding!

My son got married here in July 21 The planning stages the consultant was great although we didn't see the same one twice. There the positive ends on the days up to and including the wedding day there was a distinct lack of intrest and planned things didn't happen.Once they have your money they lose interest in your special day.My advice would be to avoid it.Good luck
