Every picture tells a story, no one can perfectly describe the beauty of which this authentic Chateau d`Hattonchâtel portrays. Perched high overlooking the Wöuvre Valley, the French Château Hattonchâtel chateau stands proud on the hillside with its gables, tall chimneys and its pointed towers.

We spent one night in this beautiful chateau hotel. We received a wonderul welcome where we were given an introduction to the history of the chateau which is incredibly beautiful architecturally and has lovely grounds and is perched high above the rolling surrounding countryside. Our room was very nice with shower and bath. The restaurant experience was unique and probably something we will always remember. The setting was a medieval hall and we were seated in front of the fire. The new chef is very good. My filet of veal with carrots cooked 3 ways was incredibly tender. The maitre d'hotel/waiter was charming and recommended a very good local wine. The little "taster" between courses were very nice. Our breakfast was copious and very good. There is really nothing to fault except ( and this is a very personal comment) the choice of music in the restaurant. Charles Trenet and Edith Piaf no doubt are popular with foreign tourists, but we would have prerred some 1920 jazz or some Gershwin...which would have been the music that Miss Skinner, the American, who saved this chateau would have no doubt enjoyed!

My friend and I were just driving by from Paris to Luxembourg. Then we found this beautiful Castle on Booking.com. We were super surprised, not only because of the location, or the Chateau but mostly because of the unbelievable friendly staff which took care of us. We were so amazed that we stayed another night and joined the special dinner. A really recommendable and unique experience.

We booked this at the last minute since we needed a bed for the night. We had no idea what to expect - however, we were very pleasantly surprised. The chateau is beautiful and looked even better on a warm sunny evening. Our room was large and commodious although not filled with the luxuries that a chain would provide. We elected to take the evening meal which may appear a little expensive but was the most wonderful value with ample amounts of wine and set in a wonderful location of an enormous middle age dining room with a huge roaring fire as the centrepiece. Breakfast was in a side room and provided everything one might require. We were sad to leave

This review is a tricky one. To me, this has more of a B&B vibe but in a castle. It appears to be a one man operation and the host wears all hats - he's the handyman, the chef, the host, etc. Not that he may not have assistance now and again, but for the most part - he's the kit and caboodle. Our first impression was interesting. When you park, it appears to be in the "back" of the Chateau. It looks like a service entrance so we weren't sure where to enter. Thankfully, he must've seen our confusion because the next thing you know, a door was opened and he was leaning up against the door frame. But he had been working and it was during a heat wave, so he was sweaty and such. Just an interesting first impression. He showed us around and was cordial. We booked 2 rooms. I'd say the rooms were average and dated beyond what they needed to be. Meaning - yes, it's a castle, but there were clearly places that needed some TLC. We enjoyed dinner at the castle. But since he is not only the chef, but the host, when new people came in, he has to seat them or show them to their rooms (whatever the case may be), etc. So our dinner took 3 hours. We have teens and had to leave around 7am and were exhausted from a full day's drive from Switzerland so finishing up at 11pm (our dinner began at 8 per the chef rules) was tiring. It was basically a get to it when he gets to it dinner. It was a decent meal, but 2 of us don't eat veal/duck so that was a bit difficult for the main course. He did come out and explain each course. He's a bit quirky. As a chef, I found him to be a cross between Remy and Gusteau from Ratatouille. I'd say overall the grounds were lovely (from the main side). If you are B&B people, then this may be a perfect fit. If you enjoy luxury, I'd say look elsewhere. If you want to experience a "castle" feel, then again, this may work for you. But for us, I wouldn't stay again because while it's unique and the grounds lovely, the rooms are too dated and average and the dinner too average to go out of our way.

Gorgeous chateau, and they really make a huge effort to make the entire stay relaxing, fun and enjoyable. Little touches like tea, coffee and little snacks available all the time, beautiful seating areas to enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside or the stunning chateau itself. Dinner in the dining room was a special treat. Rooms were large and comfortable, with heating that worked beautiful when it got cool at night. They sell yummy local wines for your enjoyment on the grounds... and there is a lot to explore nearby - darling towns, a lot of WW1 & WW2 sites, wineries, etc... A truly lovely stay!
