Quaint Japanese style accommodation perched atop the hill. Did quite a bit of research myself before booking this place. Booked the more expensive deluxe room which had the best view of the hill and sea. Of course, this does come at a price, both monetary and physical. By physical, what I meant was the exercise required to get to the... More

For us there were more cons than pros to this place, unfortunately. Pros: well presented, fairly quiet, nice view if you are facing the coast, pleasant breakfast. Cons: * the reservation process is unnecessarily complex (register with third-party booking site, request, receive an SMS, make 50% deposit online using Paypal by 12pm). * the map provided to "help" you find... During our 5 days in Taipei, we pick the day in the middle to visit Jiufen. Luckily we left the suitcases in the hotel in Taipei and just travelled light with one backpack. This little Japanese style minsu is located nearly on the hilltop of Jiufen. It is not too hard to find it according to googlemap. We arrived at... More

Got to the guest house by taxi, couldn't find the place, road was narrow, difficult to u-turn as it was on a slope and cars parked at the sides, reached dead end, it was raining heavily, the taxi driver was frustrated. Taxi driver called the guest house owner, make a u-turn and finally the come to the place to embark,... More

My wife and I just had our first visit to jiufen and we quickly realised that we had to climb a lot of steep slopes. It was a bit difficult to find the minsu or b&b, the only forms of accommodation in jiufen, so we found it after some directions form the helpful locals. We were greeted by the owner... More

This is the most expensive night among our all eight nights in Taiwan, but I have to say it is worthy. The house is located on the mountain and there is a big window that we can see the whole Jiufeng Town and the Keelung port, especially in the night the view is fantastic. Whole house is japanese style: clean,... More

This B&B is not the cheapest in Jiufen (NT3000 for Fuji room) but it is worth it for its cleanliness, location and view. They provide simple Japanese breakfast (portion quite small :) ) and no other meals. Be prepared to bring enough cash as no credit cards are accepted. Downpayment is the cost of half your stay via Paypal prior... More

I found this guest house from Tripadvisor and love it when browsing through the pictures of the guest house because I never experience staying in a Japanese style guest house. We need to pay deposit for the booking. However, due to we are foreigner and wasn't familiar with Paypal, the owner allowed us to pay when reached the place. The... More

Accommodations in Jiufen are pretty much affordable. There are ton places (mostly homestay or 'minsu') where you can spend the night under 100 USD for 2. However we wanted to try the most authentic one, in terms of atmosphere. It brings us to Jiufen Xiaoding (in Chinese) or Kyufun Komachi (in Japanese). Firstly, language is the main barrier. You will... More

Other than a location that could be difficult for you if you are lugging 4 days worth of travel necessities like my family and I, we loved the place! I loved the attention to details in the room, to create a unique and unmistakable Japanese feel, as can be seen from my shots of various corners in our room and... More
