Lovely view from our room and balcony. The "Deluxe Double with Balcony" room was amply large and the balcony was huge, with wooden seats and table overlooking the marina. Bed was comfortable and very large (6 ft superking). Room was well equipped with fridge and upright chairs but there was room for some comfy chairs or a sofa, which would have been better. Also, no light bright enough to read by after dark. Complimentary toiletries, tea tray and biscuits a bit skimpy.

The continental breakfast was a bit basic, with small supplies quickly running out and slow to be replenished. One morning, we upgraded to the full English for £5 each, which was very good. The coffee was 2 small cups each and one slice of toast each, and we were not asked if we wanted more. Ten double rooms but just one banana and one orange in the fruit bowl. No yogurt, basically just cereals and pastries.

The hotel's location was good, with an easy walk to town and the ferry to Southampton, and the room was large and comfortable with a good view. It's a shame that it just felt like they were skimping on everything they could save a few pennies on. One toilet roll and tiny one-use bottles of bath toiletries.

Stayed for 3 nights short break. Great location and very helpful staff. We stayed in a small double room which was as stated quite small, but we knew that so no problem and good price. If we visit again we would pay extra and go for a larger room.

Decor of room and stair area a little tired and could benefit from updating. Plus a few more home comforts in the room ie more that one spare loo roll and a few hangers in the wardrobe (only one there), but room was clean and attended to each day. Just need a few more homely touches and updating to rival chain hotels.

Breakfast was cereal, pastries, toast etc with option to purchase cooked breakfast at only £5. I would add £5 to the room cost and provide cooked breakfast option at no cost, this would look like a better deal.

Would use again but a better room.

From the very start of our arrival at the boathouse the staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. Our room had a lovely view across the river to Southampton with big Windows letting in allot of light into our room. Full English breakfast was great as well as the evening meals while overlooking Hythe Village Marina. What makes the boathouse work so well is the staff, they really do try to please even when under pressure when it gets busy. I highly recommend the boathouse for its location and the staffs care.

I first visited The Boat House in Hythe Marina a month ago with my great uncle for a coffee and to speak to a member of staff regarding the booking of a table for his 91st birthday. I was slightly perturbed when they took 45 minutes to serve us with a coffee (the place was virtually empty at the time) and on asking them to book our table for his birthday (today) the member of staff we spoke to seemed totally disinterested. Jump forward to today – I arrived at the venue with my husband and mother at 12:30 (our table was booked for 1.00). I apologized for turning up so early but asked the member of staff at the entrance if we could sit at our booked table and have a drink whilst we waited for the rest of the party to arrive. He hesitated and said “I don’t know as I won’t be dealing with that table, you’ll have to wait while I ask another member of staff”. Off he went and a couple of minutes later came back with a female member of staff who stared at us, nodded and then walked off. By this point my hackles were up as they were basically being really unfriendly. We walked to our table, sat down and the staff member disappeared. To cut this boring story short it was a full 30 minutes before we were served with a drink.
The rest of our party arrived – all greeted by surly staff. The ensuing lunch was painful beyond reproach, the staff were unfriendly, the service was abysmally slow and quite frankly most of the food was inedible. The roast lunches they served up looked like they had been cooked last Sunday. The scampi was soggy and the chicken burger was tough in a soggy bun. The crowning glory was the treacle tart (good for tarmacking roads) and the crème brulee had a top that could have been used as a lethal weapon and could not be crushed with a hammer! Sorry, but this place needs a damn good manager, a decent chef and some staff with a couple of ounces of personality between them.
If it was not for the fact that it was my uncle’s birthday I would have made more of a point whilst I was in the restaurant but at 91 I did not want to upset him (by the way, he thought the service in particular was slow and unfriendly)

I’m not sure how this hotel can justify charging £160 for a bed with broken / no springs. I am 4 weeks post partum and this was less than suitable - we both woke up achey and noted that someone had commented on this in the guestbook recently.

The room was cheaply decorated, Carpet looked dated and smelt old and musty! Curtains were really tacky and failed to keep out the light of Christmas lights outside. On top of the £160 we were expected to pay for cooked breakfast options which were so so.

We considered staying another night but were in such discomfort when we woke we decided to take the alternative option of sleeping on my parents blow up mattress which I’m sure will be of equal comfort and at no expense.

I am all for supporting small business and appreciate that this must be an exceptionally difficult time for hospitality but this was not acceptable.

2 stars because the staff were at least friendly and the room felt clean.

There’s limited accommodation in this area and read really well so we booked it very pleasant phone booking . Arrived to find pleasant staff but the way they were more interested in us paying immediately painted a picture in our minds.room pleasant two light weren’t working poor standard of furniture very mid matched but ok. Needed to get the kettle changed as exterior covered in calcium deposits after then looking inside completely covered not pleasant. Comfy bed great view didn’t risk the Restutant and never saw anyone else use it in the two days we stayed there. Breakfast was a bit of a con as it was advertised with breakfast if you wanted anything over toast and cereal there was a extra charge .
The stay was average but the property needs extensive work to bring it up to the standard you would expect surrounded with the property’s it has around it.

This place is in a fantastic location with great views. The room is a decent size and all you need but, the restaurant had a very limited menu on a Sunday evening, last orders for food was 5.45pm, drinks are pricey and the decor is scruffy, oh and I had ants crawling on me whilst sat on a sofa in the bar area. Breakfast is 7am - 10am, the time is currently 7.45am and the restaurant is still locked up. Everything considered I'm expecting Basil Fawlty to show up at any minute. If you showed this place some love, it could be a gold mine.

Went for breakfast at the marina, sat outside because it was a beautifully sunny day. The table was dirty so I asked for it to be cleaned, I said if it’s a problem, I can clean it. Clearly there was a problem because the lady came out and gave me a cloth and said “here you go” so I cleaned it myself. Ordered avocado on toast which came with poached eggs and I added smoked salmon, it came out and had with minimal salmon and no eggs. My partner ordered eggs benedict, it came out with no bacon and the poached eggs were hard. Not very impressed.

lunch for 3, order & pre-pay at bar, strange arrangement. Starters took a long time to arrive, nobody came to clear plates. Main courses even longer, I went to bar to enquire what was happening, nobidy to talk to. Our meals were sat in serving hatch which I ended up collecting myself, along with cutlery & clearing our starters. Seemed understaffed, nobody seemed to care, was supposed to be relaxing lunch with elderly mother in law, afraid v disappointing 1st & last visit to this establishment.

Visited here yesterday for a booked Sunday lunch with our friends who were visiting for the weekend. We chose this venue as we had used it before and had an enjoyable meal on that occasion . The starters course we each selected were acceptable but the main courses of 3 roasts dinners and a fish and chip meal were certainly below the standard that we were expecting from this restaurant. The beef on the three roast meals was excellent but the Yorkshire puddings were ‘cremated’ and the roast potatoes were so overcooked you could not put a knife through them. The fish and chip meal was also a disappointment, the fish was overdone and the chips were inedible. We did complain to the waitress who in all fairness did replace the Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes however the meals were of a very poor standard overall and it somewhat spoilt our visit to this restaurant even more so that we were not offered any reductions from the total bill when we came to pay or any other benefits by way of compensating for this unsatisfactory experience. Will certainly think twice about having a Sunday lunch here again. (Regrettably forgot to take photos of the cremated food)
