We were there for only seven days and agree with 90% of what was said in the previous review having met the cuple involved, we booked 8 weeks before and got a 10% discount with Cyprus Paradise 'early summer break' and used this to get a pool view rooom , I am glad we did as this afforded late afternoon sun, although the pool was a little away from the balcony it was very pleasent. If ever there ia an index published of squre metres of pool per guest this hotel would be in the top 100 in the world, there are also 2 jackos, one by the beach pool, and one indoors.
Lapta is 10 miles fron Girne (Kyrenia) but it is right on the 'Dolmus' route to the city, we found these very good and it cost 1.75YTL to get in and out of the centre, the drivers are very good at looking for custom and the horns will be sounded from 500 metre away to ask if you need picking up. Also do not be surprissed if one which has just passed stops 500 metres further on and reverses back if you respond to its indicators, hand signals and lights. At Girne ' the contoller for Dolmuses' will yell out Lapta Lapta Lapta and drag anyone in of the pavement to fill the bus so you will get back ok, each time slightly diiferreant route as people seem to ring up on the drivers mobiles for them to be picked up, The LA hotel is at end or the route where the buses come back fown from Lapta.
The LA ( named after the original owner which I may spell wrong if I go from memory) does half board, if you are a meat & 2 veg traditional brit you may not like the food , but there was always soup, over 30 meze dishes and two main courses plus a single option sweet , you either had local beer wine or water with the meal at very reasonable prices the dining room is on the first floor or looking over the pool (note steps up to it). The atmosphere somtimes was lacking ( one CD which had Slade, T Rex and the Beatles was played everynight - we joked about it with them) , but part of this is a problem in many brits go down to eat and out in the same manner as if they are in in a Little Chef, you are on holiday !!! the very pleasent staff were happy to try and explain the dishes /take photographs have banter, linger a little and enjoy the experience.
We went on two trips with Cyprus Paradise which were very good and ate at lunchtime at the Serenda cafe near the mini market which is run by an English lady and Rose's to the West where we had fresh fish all very good.
The underpass to the beach was very forsighted when built and we got great views of the sunset over the sea in the evenings whilst most guests were changing for dinner. I have to say all the staff were excellant in looking after you and we were very pleased with our choice of the LA hotel and Cyprus Paradise for the holiday, which was value for money and one where we will return again in the future.

Just finish my two weeks at the La Hotel, what a fantastic place, excellent beach and the infinity pool is brilliant, lovely food, lots to choice from also breakfast.
The rooms are very clean. fresh towels everyday and the new decor.
Theresa on reception was lovely and very helpful.
We will defiantly return.
The hotel and location is suitable for families, couples and single travellers.
The Management were all very polite and attentive and made ourÂ
holiday a very enjoyable experience.
We did notice that many of the guests staying at the hotel had stayed
here many times before.. A very good indication of the quality and
service to be found here. All in all this is a very good and well
balanced hotel.

We arrived exhausted after a long flight to be greeted by the aroma of jasmine and a meal which was most welcome.
It was incredible to think we had beentravelling since 7am and it was now midnight. We would have got to the Caribbean in less time than it had taken us to North Cyprus, due to the Pegasus flight which stops off in Turkey en rout
The pools, at this hotel are lovely, especially the infinity pool, the each is small but gets crowded at weekends when locals arrive, and there are never enough beach beds to go round since most are broken.
North Cyprus is not as developed as the South. However if you are under 50 you will be very bored as there is absolutely nothing to do at night, unless your idea of fun is karaoke or a a flutter at a gaming table of one of the many casinos.
Their government has flooded this small area of cyprus with Russian owned Casinos because the tax revenue generated from them is massive.
Oddly for a low key traditional area there are also strip clubs.
Neither of us are gamblers, and drunken karaoke is really not our thing, so it was a book at bedtime or catchup of the latest new on t.v. So if you're after a relaxing week with not a ot to do then you will like Kyrenia.
Our room which was close to the bar and reception area was very noisy, it looked out to a main road where traffic thundered along day and night.
Dinner is served around one of the pools which is pleasant, however the food leaves a lot to be desired unless you like creamy stodgy lasagnas, pastas and dried up beef. We stuck to the mezzes or ate out., There are a few good restaurants nearby.
At the nearby Mountain View hotel there was a WW2 memorial party with Vera Lynn singalong with lots of WW2 veterans, nd bangers and mash on the menu. Cyprus is an army base so attracts lots of former soldiers who tour the war memorials .
Dinner would have been pleasant as it was served poolside. However we could not hear ourselves think let alone speak because of the excessive noise from a pair of teenage boys who seemed to be the in house entertainment and and sang off key very lbadly and oudly.
They managed to clear the dining room whenever they played which was every second night. We complained to Teresa at the front desk but she just smiled, shrugged and did nothing to turn down the din.
Business is booming at Silver Rocks restaurant because of these two who annoy guests with their awful renditions of Led Zepplin and Slade covers,The din is relentless.
Our friends had been inflicted with this pair on no less than six nights during their two week stay. By week two they decided to eat out and recommended the Silver rocks which was very pleasant.
Staff were helpful apart from one little control freak in the breakfast room called Yasser who paced up and down scrutinising guests in case they might sneak out a piece of sasauge for the starving cats outside.
The sea is clean, and the small beach pleasant but could be so much better if the hotel purchased new beach beds most of which are broken. They blame the storms of last winter, but come on, how much does a beach bed cost?.
Overall it was a relaxing if dull week, but if it's good food you're after or entertainment at night, I would chose another hotel, or another area of Cyprus

Response from LAHotelCyprus, Guest Relations Manager at LA Hotel & Resort
Responded 4 Nov 2011
It is unfortunate that you endured such a long journey time, the LA hotel does it's utmost to make guests feel comfortable after a long journey and we do provide complimentary refreshments also, as the competition for flights improve, we hope the service and journey times improve also. We aim to provide a balanced entertainment program throughout the season and we have slightly younger musicians twice a week as well as more relaxing live background dinner music twice a week and also we have cypriot based entertainment and food, including traditional style pastry based food made as an entertainment and focal point in front of guests. As a medium sized hotel we try to cater for a varying demographic and this includes different nationalities, ages etc, but we always give priority to our British client base, many of which return year upon year. If music on a particular night/occasion is inappropriate then the restaurant staff are more than happy to make adjustments, they do try to find a happy medium. Many people who stay at other hotels complain that there is sometimes little or no entertainment and because we have a large poolside area and restaurant customers can also choose to sit in a much more secluded/private area if they so wish to be away from the entertainment. We have a large number of modern plastic/moulded sun loungers but these are usually placed around the swimming pools as the more sturdy wooden ones are more suited to the unstable character/shape of the soft sand by the sea. There is a problem with stray cats in Cyprus and the ministry of tourism have instructed hotels and restaurants not to promote the feeding of such animals in public places due to health and safety reasons. Just got back from LA Beach having had a lovely relaxing half board holiday. We went with Direct Traveller through Travel Zoo. Pool's were great especially the beach pool from which the view of the mountains & the sea were amazing, no shortage of beds & umbrellas. Food was really nice especially the hot options for dinner. We only ate out twice in 2 weeks & enjoyed the food at the hotel. Chef at breakfast doing fried eggs & omlettes, again all the usual choices. Beach Bar was also really nice & snacks were nice/reasonable price.
Staff at the hotel were wonderful especially Jane & Theresa who were lovely. All the gentleman waiting on were also extremely friendly & helpful.
Agree with some of the reviews about some of the furnishings being a bit tired but to be honest this was far from being a problem. Everything worked, was comfortable, very clean & some of the hotel was getting painted. It looked like there were some new umbrellas etc so I think they are making an effort to improve.
Air con in the room was great & it's worth mentioning (as someone who has been to Spain a lot ) that this hotel do not charge for internet, air con, security box, tv in room, fans, extra pillows etc !! All we spent money on were drinks & the snack bar for lunch where prices were reasonable/cheap compared to other holiday resorts I've been to.
This is a quiet hotel in a quiet location, there are not a lot of bars etc close by so if you like quiet this is the perfect place for you. Kyrenia is about 25 mins on the bus which are frequent & we loved the harbour & castle.
Lapethos aqua park which is 5 mins walk down the road was really good & worth a visit if you have kids.
We had early morning flights & had to leave at 4.30, there was a cup of tea/coffee & a piece of cake which was lovely
Overall we really enjoyed our holiday & would go back to LA Beach. For the price we paid it was an absolute bargain. Care, thought & attentiveness of staff could not have been any better.

Have just returned from a 10 day holiday at the LA Hotel 6 miles outside Kyrenia and all in all it was a very pleasent holiday WE booked with Cyprus Paradise and flew out of Stansted no probem flights on time no entertanment and night flight times are not the best but its all we could get at the time of booking.
The L A is what I woukd say is a good 3 star hotel only let down by 2 things the worst wsa its evening meal which out of 10 we only had 2 but eating out wsa so cheap it was not a problem for us more about this later The rooms at hotel were ok we had a family room which was on 2 floors 2 single beds sitting area, balcony and bath room and upstaires a double bed for 2 of us it wsa fine and we looked out on the pool area I would surggest pay extra for a pool view as the hotel looks out on a main road. I have to say the rooms could do with a bite of a make over with some lighter furnershings but are clean and the staff could not be more helpfull.
Now to the good things about the hotel it has 3 swimmings pools loads of sun beds and a walk way to the beach drinks are not over priced and the mini bar in the room is the same. The Hotel has had a make over in the last year so the outside areas looks and feels good
We hired a car for 5 days and found plenty of places to eat and could not fault any of the meals out and the most exprnsive round £30 for 2 on the last night
I shall name 3 eating places Sherliey Valentine near the hote, Capitanos and Bella Moon Bellapaix next The Residents Hotel in Bellapaix.
A small tip go and see the Abbey at Bella paix after 4.30 if you have a car as you should miss all the coach partys and you can park in the car park by the abbey and then we had a early meal at the Bella Moon
We went at the start of the season so most places were not heaving with peple and we would go back again in September or October as the weather in the evening is warmer than in May so one could eat outside.
To end with I have to say this has to be one of the best value holidays I have had for many years and we will return

Just got back from LA Hotel after 1 week's half board holiday with them.
On arriving at approx 3.00am on a Sunday (after flight delay from Luton) we were received by the hotel owner at reception. He was very charming and made us very welcome. He insisted on making us (my wife and I along with her father) coffee's and tea, whilst also giving us a plate each of Mezze as "we must be very hungry" from our trip, at no cost to ourselves. I thought this was a lovely gesture at such a time in the morning. He carried my wife's case on the way to showing us our rooms.
The food was very much Turkish cuisine, laid out in a self service buffet style, which we found to be good in the evenings but maybe lacking a bit in the mornings at breakfast. My father-in-law is in his 70's and quite fussy with his food, but even he found the evening meals to be good, although maybe a little repetitive.
The hotel itself from an exterior point of view, was pleasent to the eye around the pool areas, where you dine of an evening, however the interior of rooms are basic (we were in 240, which from the balcony overlooks the main pool area) but very clean. The maids came in every morning to clean, as well as making the beds and changing the sheets frequently. Towels were changed everyday. Incidentally, beach towels are provided from reception every day. You also have airconditioning within the rooms, which is also provided free!
The hotel has it's own private beach, which you reach by walking in a subway across from the front of the hotel. All beds, parasols and bed cushions are free! The beach is clean and safe for children and the sea was as warm as bath water. There is also a very nice infinity pool beside the beach too, with a pool bar that provides snacks as well. (All very reasonably priced and tasty too)
The location of the hotel is quite remote from shops, bars, resteraunts etc, however you can get a Dormi bus outside the hotel to Kyrenia (Girne) city centre for 3.5 Turkish Lira. They are excellent value and there is no need to get a taxi, which are much more expensive.
Top Tip: If you are looking to get a tailored made suit (or anything tailor made), then go to the city centre, as there are a number of tailors there. I got one made in 3 days, at a cost of only £225 (660 Turkish Lira)
Overall I would rate this hotel as good but please remember this is only a 3*** hotel and probably the rooms could do with being updated/refurbished but for a reasonably priced holiday it is good value for money.
I hope you find this review helpful.

I hope you find this review helpful.

Where do I start? This hotel is really a disgrace.
You don't get even get free (table) water at meals. If you want water they will bring you bottled water and charge you 4 TL for it. They try to tell you the water isn't safe to drink (LOL) just to keep you buying their water. Where do they get it from? The corner shop less than 25 metres down the road.
Now you think, no problem, I will buy my bottled water and other drinks from that same shop (which has very cheap prices) and bring it to the hotel. Think again. The hotel policy is that guests are not to bring food or drink in from outside. There's a big sign in the lobby, where there is a receptionist and a bartender keeping an eye on you. So be careful when smuggling drinks in because they can throw you out for doing so.
Breakfast... It's not a full English breakfast, neither is it a Continental breakfast. Heck, it's not even a Turkish breakfast. What is it? You get a loaf of bread you can cut slices from (we saw one of the hotel staff buying these at that same local corner shop, so if you like this bread you know where you can find more) and lots of little jam, margerine and honey packets. Plus a hard-boiled egg, some suspiciously deep-red mini-sausages (I daren't imagine what kind of reconstituted rubbish went into those) and a few fruit if you're lucky. They trotted out scrambled eggs once but it's not going to be on the standard menu - uneconomical use of eggs for them you see.
You will find 'mezzes' served at dinnertime. You go and help yourself to these recycled leftovers from yesterday's cauliflower, aubergine and other things. If you don't, they will be there tomorrow, enlivened with a fresh sprinkling of balsamic vinegar and some parsley. Waste not, want not...
They serve main courses at dinner. The chef is a nice, affable guy and they trot him out to 'serve' the helpings. Why? Well because the helpings, especially of meat, chicken and fish, are MINISCULE and he's there to make sure you don't deplete their 5 Turkish Lira's worth of meat in one helping. Like Jesus, he attempts to make 2 or 3 fish go around a vast number of people. By the way, if you don't think mini-samosas go well with a chicken drumstick in gravy, you probably won't be too impressed with the hotel's "4 star" cuisine.
The bottom line is that they want you to drink, because they know you're British and that's how they hope to make their money. Water, soft drinks, beer, wine, whisky, whatever... That's how they make their money so they'll pester you constantly at dinner to have a drink. If you drink they will be happy. If not they will be surly. The barman is also a kind of hotel manager and supervisor, doing cleaning, table and kitchen supervision as and when required. But if you're sensible, you will check out the prices for your drinks at the corner shop and smuggle your own drinks into the hotel.
I'm giving one star only despite the hotel's good points (good cleaning staff, big rooms, nice beach and pools) because it is absolutely atrocious that at dinner they won't even give you free tap water in a jug. That's actually bad manners. Also I don't appreciate being served yesterday's cauliflower, this morning's uneaten eggs etc. for dinner whether wrapped up in a kind of spring roll or samosa or freshened up as a fake 'mezze' (I especially note the cheddar cheese 'halloumi') as this makes me ill. It's pathetic and these people need to sort it out. They only get away with it because the clientele are mostly quite aged people and they only want peace, and because us Brits hardly ever complain anyway.

Response from CyprusJane, Guest Relations Manager at LA Hotel & Resort
Responded 7 Jun 2011
We are sad to hear that you were uncomfortable with some of the Hotel's policies and prices. To address your concerns - The health and well being of our guests is paramount and to this end, along with the guidelines of the Ministry of Tourism, and as is common practice across resorts in Northern Cyprus, we do not serve tap water to our guests - either at dinner or any other time. Bottled water is the accepted standard. Also our pricing is 3TL per large bottle, not 4TL as has been stated - the average pricing across Cyprus is between 3TL and 4TL. Tour operators -amongst others- normally warn visitors that standard tap water is unsafe for drinking as is. It is hotel policy that we 'kindly request' that guests do not bring food & drink from outside the hotel. Apart from self catering establishments, this is standard practice for all hotels. Otherwise hygiene in rooms could be compromised, since, in Cyprus, it is easy to attract insects such as ants to foodstuffs lying around, no one has ever been 'thrown out', on the contrary we even provide free Tea/coffee making facilities in rooms free of charge. Being an informal, relaxed resort, we of course do not check what foodstuffs guests bring into their rooms as some hotels in cyprus do. We have attentive staff, but also we pride ourselves in having a very relaxed, yet professional, laid back resort atmosphere, and to this end it is a requisite that staff never pester or 'hard sell' to guests - this is totally contrary to the spirit of the resort. We have a varied and full menu at breakfast and dinner - our breakfast is mainly Turkish style, we also provide scrambled eggs, beans and sausages. We have a variety of preserves, cheeses, yoghurt, cereals and different varieties of bread and croisants etc. Eggs are available daily and the Chef is on hand to customise for guests making, to order, pancakes, omelettes and fried eggs daily in front of customers. Each evening at dinner we have at least twenty Meze types - prepared each day using fresh ingredients - and three different main courses - one of them vegetarian, customers can opt for second helpings. As themes, we also currently have one night per week as Fish night and one BBQ evening. Please note we run our dining facilities in accordance with the strict regulations set out by the Ministry of tourism and are inspected periodically. We take the hygiene and safety of our food preparation very seriously. Overall we provide an informal, friendly and relaxed enviroment with approachable staff, and in the event that we can make things better or need to rectify anything we would hope our guests feel they can approach us at anytime and give us the opportunity to improve their stay, we always endevour to help in any way we can. Sincerely Jane Irven Guest Relations Manager

This hotel must have been impressive in it's hay-day but sadly it has not been up-kept.
Our room was supposed to be one of the better ones but it was very basic and not very clean. It looked like it had been decorated by a short sighted one-armed man and smelled rather lived in. The bed linen looked like our castoffs and the bathroom was at least 30 years since it was last refurbished. The door wouldn't even close properly. The pool while it looks nice isn't kept well and has a lot of missing tiles and sharp edges.
The "private beach" is across the road which you get to via an underground walkway. This looks like it was borrowed from a council estate in Bradford. The beach itself is covered in litter and broken glass with run down properties overlooking from the side. Back to the room. :( Very noisy traffic at night due to locals using the road as a drag-strip and at least one serious accident during our short stay. Being unable to sleep we turned to the TV. Another let-down as the ancient 12" TV showed just one channel, very badly. Couldn't even get a decent drink at night as there was next to nothing in the mini-bar and and the fridge was mouldy anyway. Off putting to say the least.
We asked to be moved to a better room but was told that this was the best they had! Yuk!
We stuck it for a couple of days as Baryram meant that a lot of the hotels were full, but after finding ants in the breakfast for two days running we decided that enough was enough and we checked out. We were lucky to find a vacancy, down the road in a very nice family run hotel called the Citrus Tree where we stayed out the rest of our holiday in North Cyprus.
