We have just returned from a short break in our caravan on one of the super pitches, on the first weekend opening up since the lockdown has eased. Everything was well managed, a sanitiser station outside the toilet block and a clocking in and out system to ensure social distancing is adhered to at all times. You could see personnel cleaning the facilities regularly too. The site is beautiful and really peaceful - even the nearby cattle and sheep seem quiet too! The village of Pooley Bridge is only a 5 minute walk away and has plenty of pubs and eateries to choose from. This is a great site for exploring and taking walks around Ullswater.

If you need a place to relax, wether it’s walking or sightseeing, this is the place for you. We had a lodge and it was beautiful, had everything we needed including a hot tub, the whole place is maintained in a tip top condition. the park itself is lovely and very well maintained. The staff are fabulous and very helpful and friendly. For camping this place had everything you needed especially for doggie friends that have their own bath!! Children are also catered for. The pubs in the village served lovely food including The Sun Hotel, and we ate there twice with good food and service. We also ate lunch at the cafe - the sandwich (for two) with side salad was incredible especially for the price. Thank you Hillcroft for a wonderful stay. We will be back.

This was our first time glamping and we were not disappointed, the glamping pod was in immaculate condition and as clean as a whistle. It was like a little apartment complete with bathroom, kitchen area, table, sofa and outdoor 'balcony' space to relax and take in the surroundings. The campsite itself is well maintained and from our pod we had a nice view of the hills. The location is great, just a 5-10 minute walk into Pooley Bridge, which has 3 pubs, a restaurant, a tea room, a church and gift shops all within a picturesque surrounding of Ullswater lake. Lots to do in the area and the campsite is the perfect base. They also have a food van on site for bacon rolls in the morning and pizzas on Friday and Sunday nights. The only negative was the induction hob, we found it very temperamental - granted we didn't have brand new induction pans but the pans we took were definitely induction but the hob just didn't like them which meant we bought food that we had to take home. If you are looking to cook or heat up food/milk in the pod, buy new induction pans to avoid disappointment. Would definitely recommend and would return, thank you Hillcroft.

A beautiful setting in the Lakes. We stayed on a camping pitch for 3 nights. It was lovely that you were able to book your pitch. The presentation of the site is excellent with flower beds and regularly mowed grass and the staff all very friendly and welcoming. It is a very dog friendly site which even has it’s own excellent shower facility for them. I did though wonder why there was no dedicated dog walking area, there certainly seemed room for one! Instead there was no option but to weave in and out of others tents and pods. The place was packed and felt somewhat congested in places. The campsite, field A is on quite a slope, with a constant danger of mugs etc. sliding off the table. Shower and toilet facilities were excellent. Plate washing area wash large and the water very hot. It was not though regularly checked. A dirty sink on the end with all sorts of mess left, remained so for the entire day. Also during these Covid aware times there was no anti bac spray and jumbo wipes to clean the sink area once you had finished washing your pots ready for the next person. Such items are available on nearby / cheaper sites. This is a very busy site with lots of large groups, children racing around and an almost constant stream of music playing on fellow campers radios. After 11pm everyone was quiet though. The Wi-fi access was awful. This was the main reason we chose this site over nearby. You are charged an additional fee £8 for the privilege. The lady on Reception warned it is for emails really and just going onto the web, nothing else. She was being very optimistic as it turned out. It was absolutely appalling and not worth an additional 80p, never mind the outrageous amount charged. Only one device was able to access it and the service was so patch and completely unreliable. It was pointless really . We ended up buying additional data from our own phone providers. How can other sites provide excellent Wi-fi and include it in the price? In summary ok but could be a much better experience.

Spent three nights here over the weekend. 1st time at Hillcroft and won't be the last ! All of the staff are amazing and super friendly . Facilities spotless

Only disappointment was the food van on site, we tried to pre order well in advance and we were told they couldn't take our order as they were fully booked. We drove to another site that had a takeaway which worked out ok it was only a few minutes away and food was great. We drove past the van on the way back and it didn't seem like they were rushed off their feet. No one was waiting to be served and no one was cooking any pizzas. Maybe they had ran out off stuff ?

We paid additionally to have a private family bathroom which is a great idea and kids loved it. Keep up the good work Hillcroft

Stayed for 1 night on an electric pitch with a small tent. Have stayed here before but usually on longer trips.

Checking in was easy & friendly. Covid toilet/shower check in cards are great. Works perfectly.

Shower and toilet block is spotless with great facilities like hair dryer and separate wash room. Lovely big shower cubicles. Bit weak on the force of shower but did the job.

Pitch was terrible though. Was told to pitch in the middle of the marker but it was just a mud hole with no grass left. Ended up pitching right on the end near the road, on a slope & then the electric hook up wouldn’t reach so feel like it was a waste of money really. After a week being in the lakes, I booked this pitch to recharge everything before carrying on.
I know it was fully booked too as tried to get my friends on (who stayed next door instead).
Also had a guy mansplaining how to pitch my tent. No offence dude, but just came down off a mountain camp. I’ll ask if I need help :).

Overall though, this site is great for people with kids as there’s a playground, huge grass area to play on. Close to the lake and the village. Great location all around really. Shop on site. Games room (when open after Covid).

Might get a pod next time.

Just returned from another fabulous break at Hillcroft Park. This site just keeps getting better and better. This time we stayed in one of their new hard standing pitches. Initially was concerned as we had always been on a super pitch but as soon as i arrived my concerns were put to rest. It was electric only pitch but the water fill up was right next to my pitch.
We arrived after the reception had closed, however on driving up to our pitch, John the warden (more to come on him later) flagged us down to greet us as returning visitors and handed us our toilet passes and gate pass code.
As it was bank holiday weekend the site was busy but we never had any issues with capacity at the fabulous toilet and shower block, which as ever was spotlessly clean which is a credit to all staff, especially John & Mags.

John (Warden) and his wife Mags went above and beyond their duties as ever for us. This started with them providing a takeaway menu for a Chinese restaurant in Penrith. But to top it all, Our friends had been staying in one of the new super glamping pods but could only stay 2 nights as they were fully booked. On the third night they were wanting to stay and John and Mags provided them with everything they could need to stay in a tent for that night.
These 2 hardworking people are a credit to the site, constantly cleaning the toilet block and always available to help where needed.
We are already booked back onto the site for later in the year but are looking for more dates in our diary to get back there.
The future plans for this site are exciting and will make this one of the best in the Lake District.
Thank you to all staff once again for making it a fabulous site.

We've just returned from our 4th visit and are already going back next month. I can't say enough good things about this site...pitches are large and offer a degree of privacy, toilets are the best we've ever seen and always spotless, staff are so friendly and not afraid to challenge rule breaking which my own children experienced when they ignored the rules and were playing on their scooters near the shower block...I'm all for this, keep up the good work!!

Location of the site is fantastic too with the beautiful village of Pooley Bridge, lovely hill walks and a lake all on your doorstep.

Can't wait to come back!!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay here (family with 2 teenagers and our dog). We stayed in a pet friendly Lodge in the "Ullswater" section of the site. Probably the best lodge and site we have stayed at. Super clean, modern, comfy (kids loved the reclining settee!). It had everything you needed and I liked the little touches like the mini Molton Brown complimentary toiletries in both bathrooms, and biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar and even milk in the fridge on arrival! Our Lodge (U6) had views of trees from the decking which gave it a foresty feel and the location of the site is that it is 5 minutes walk from Pooley Bridge which is on the shores of Lake Ullswater, Pooley Bridge itself having shops, and a few pub/restaurants some which were backed onto the Lake itself so beautiful scenery. We took our dog and there are amazing walks behind the site up to the Fells with wonderful views down to Ullswater. We ventured to Windermere, Coniston and many stop offs along the way great little towns and villages and plentiful scenery wherever you go as you would expect. Kirkstone Pass was amazing on the way to Windermere! I would 100% recommend the site, the Glamping pods look great too, great idea with the breakfast van that is parked up on the site and also serves pizza on some nights. My kids are older but the park was brilliant for those with younger kids. Reception staff extremely friendly and helpful, whole site immaculate. I booked direct through the park itself. I would not hesitate to recommend, cannot fault anything, everyone obviously works hard here to maintain it so well.

We have recently visited one of the new Glamping Pods at Hillcroft, i can't recommend them enough!
The facilities in the pod were immaculately clean and very easy to use. The shower, sleeping area, kitchen area and central heating were all brilliant. The kitchen was equipped with a kettle, fridge/freezer and sink. Then the seating area had a double sofa bed and dining table.
Due to Covid we had to bring our own fitted sheet, bedding and towels but this was not a problem.
The location of the site was very close to Pooley bridge and the local shops/pubs. A short 5 minute walk downhill into the town.

The only thing that could improve the glamping pod could possibly be the addition of a TV. Although we were busy during out visit if you wanted a chilled weekend or the weather was rubbish a TV would be a great addition!

10/10 can't wait to visit again!

The village is all on the flat so you would be able to push a wheelchair around. There is two steps to enter Ullswater House and we have two bedrooms on the ground floor.

Friday will be Pizza and Saturday fish and chips if the vans are still there and the schedule the same as when we visited. The pizza van doubles as a breakfast van too and seems more permanent. The chippy wagon parks further down near reception. Check with the Pizza man, we were there in July and he suggested we pre order. Not sure about the chippy as we didn't have food from them.
