Golden wedding dinner for the two of us, too far to get taxis so booked a room for the night.

Premises are lovely, clean and well maintained

Food is just perfect, bread made on premises is what good bread should taste like, every course beautifully presented, tasted wonderful too. Save some of the bread to mop up the excellent sauces. Soufflé was delicious

Wine list excellent, half bottles available too, suited us champagne pre dinner, half bottle of excellent Chablis with the fish courses and two large glasses of an excellent American red with the meat course.

Service first class, just the right amount of time between courses, not hurried at all. Chef delivered dishes to table which was a nice touch.

Breakfast included in room price, no surprises there, as good quality as the night before. Not huge but quality ingredients, the sausages are made in house and were very tasty. Regretfully we struggled to finish it and had to leave some as we were still full from the dinner.

Room was spotless, well equipped, comfy bed plenty toiletries etc

Recommended, book a room if you live too far away, worth the trip for the food and service

I stopped writing reviews on here years ago since I didn’t agree with TAs policy’s. However, having seen a review just posted about Gordon’s, I feel compelled to respond.
If we made a mistake in booking Gordon’s it was simply that we only booked for two nights! The welcome from Maria was warm and friendly, the room was spotless and comfortable and the food produced by Garry was just superb.
This is a restaurant with rooms. You come here to eat. And boy did we eat. On both nights Garry pulled out all the stops and showed that he could leave many of the big names standing.
This was our first time here as we normally head for the west coast, but it certainly won’t be our last visit.
We are foodies. We have been lucky enough to eat in some of the finest restaurants and we can confirm that Garry is up there with the best of them.

Our first night was only slightly tainted by another couple complaining loudly about a wine that was the wrong vintage. The wine menu clearly says that if a wine has sold out, the next vintage will replace it. The same person also says that a cheaper menu should have been offered at £55. There is only one menu on offer. It’s a tasting menu.
Allergies and dislikes can be discussed on booking and, as a top chef, Garry would take pride in ensuring your needs were met.
I’m not sure if there is a chippy in the village, but if so, the couple in question would have done better to have eaten there. The last review can be taken with a lot of salt and a good splash of vinegar!

Some people seem to go out their way to find fault and be happy doing so. One can believe their disingenuous review or look at all the other good reviews.
This couple and people like them are why I stopped using Trip Advisor.

Gordon’s don’t do food, they do fine art.

Oh yes, and if you do stay overnight, the breakfasts are excellent as well.
(He does the best Blackcurrent jam ever!)

A very professionally and friendly run establishment. Maria gave us a very warm welcome and was attentive to our every need throughout our stay and dining experience.
Every course of the tasting menu was exquisite. Garry’s outstanding talent as a top chef is undeniable. The produce used was of the highest quality and Garry perfected the combination of flavours to put together one of the very best meals we have had in Scotland. Garry presented each dish to our table, giving us a brief description of what we were about to savour, which we thought was a very nice touch. We enjoyed excellent wines from the extensive wine list.
This is certainly fine dining at its best.
We stayed overnight in a very comfortable, tastefully decorated and pristine room. The restaurant, which was also tastefully decorated had a very warm, cosy feel.
Everything we had for breakfast was just delicious.
This was our second visit, and we will definitely visit again. Excellence at a reasonable price.
We cannot recommend Gordon’s Restaurant with Rooms highly enough.

Booked for dinner and overnight stay. Neither of the two cheaper rooms were available so had to accept a dearer one despite there being only two couples in residence, ourselves being one of them. Room comfortable. We were given the wine list which was extensive but the wine we chose was not available. On choosing another we were told we should have chosen that one in the first instance. There was only one menu the £55 menu was not available so had to accept the £75 tasting menu. Garry is obviously a gifted chef but front of house Maria should not be allowed near paying customers. We felt we were being watched all through our meal from behind the bar. Plates were removed before I had swallowed my food and she attempted to remove my wine glass before it was empty. She showed her displeasure again when we opted for the cheese and at £12.50 supplement was disappointing. We did not pay as we did not have the dessert. Coffee was charged extra. Breakfast was nothing special. Gordon's has been closed for eighteen months but there is no need to overcharge the way they did. This was not fine dining as we know it. We will not be back!

A wonderful evening spent with friends. Absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared food in a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. An explosion of texture and tastes making you want to lick the plate clean. Covid precautions all taken account of without negatively impacting upon the atmosphere. We will definetly be going back and would highly recommend.

The food at Gordon’s deserves a Michelin star. Having been at many Michelin from 2 star to 4 star. The dishes being created here definitely deserve much more recognition than they appear to have. Good selection of wines were available at reasonable prices. Definitely will be back.

Looking for rooms for the night after a long day I made the mistake of not asking the price beforehand. This is billed as a restaurant with rooms and has 2 forks in the Michelin Guide. We were expecting the dinner to be rather expensive but Dinner, with B&B cost £225-00 for two! The hosts were unwilling to break that down. Had they done so it might have made more sense
We calculated that for average rooms they should have cost no more than £70-00 for two [based on prices in Scotland in late October of the 6 places we stayed in, all at the top of the range], which made the Dinner £77-50 a head. It certainly was not worth anything like that, given that it was a perfectly straightforward meal – one of us had 2 courses the other 3 - and no gourmet fare though it was well cooked and presented. Wine was extra.
When the room warmed up [no CH] it was OK and was comfortable enough but not of a high standard. It was quiet.
They boasted of freshy squeezed orange juice for breakfast. Although it had ‘bits in’ it was not – both by the taste and we saw the packet as she was leaving the room. It had come from the supermarket! This was a very disappointing place to stay at a shockingly high price, and we definitely would not go back or recommend it. For a meal it might well be OK but ine should ask the price beforehand or risk a nasty shock.

I booked this hotel through a booking agency attached to my employers. I can honestly say as a man of 48 I have NEVER been so patronised. The lady host quickly explained we only accept certain type of workmen as they wouldn't "fit in" with our clientele. I am a medical man and would consider myself well educated. However I have many tattoos and I think this lady could not see by the tattoos. She also was quick to tell me about how she was always asked when her husband was going on to Masterchef on tv and she said her reply was always "what to judge it!"

Well. I have to say I think he would struggle to get through first round. The food was lovely to look at but very ordinary to eat. Worst point if you stay there via a company the lady will endeavour to choose your meals for you without offering menu, this I found quite incredible. Also on first breakfast the orange juice may well have been freshly squeezed the next two mornings it was out if a carton. On the last morning the scrambled eggs and toast were awful. The toast wasn't toasted do hot doughy bread with half cooked eggs. So if the master chef does go on to judge please do not let him judge simple breakfasts.

This gem of a restaurant with rooms is in a small village 5 miles from Arbroath - if you enjoy fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere, and you are in Scotland, you must go. This was our second visit, and it was again memorable. Our room was extravagantly furnished in boutique style, with a firm bed, good linen and a huge modern en suite bathroom with free standing bath. Dinner was sensational from start to finish. And the wine list was the most reasonably priced we have seen. From olives with the champagne, the flavour bursting veloute of pea, mint and scallop, the duck in the richest wine sauce, the pre-dessert chocolate dish, and the pistachio creme brulee was astoundingly good. Not to mention the candle-lit petit fours and coffee. All served with kindness, cheerful relaxed efficiency and professionalism. This restaurant with room deserves every accolade coming.

We have stayed at Gordon’s on many occasions over the years and have always been made to feel exceptionally welcome. The accommodation is extremely comfortable and the hotel is ideally located for touring around the beautiful countryside in that part of the world. There are also many excellent golf courses within easy travelling distance. The restaurant is one of the finest we’ve dined in and Maria and Gary deserve the highest accolades for the way this hotel/restaurant is run. This Scottish luxury and hospitality at its best.
