I was invited to a business breakfast at the restaurant - it was lovely. The food was delicious. The service a bit slow but they were very pleasant. The gardens looked spectacular, I wish I had had the time to walk around them. It certainly looks like a lovely place to visit with the family and the prefect place for... More

I travel constantly in my work and I this is my favourite stay. Not the typical hotel atmosphere but homely and alive. Residential neighbours visit the nice restaurant frequently which gives improvrs the atmosphere.

I am so tired of bad service at this excellent establishment. I regularly have business meetings here and am met embarrassingly with poor service and badly trained waiters. But today was the pits. When I walked in for a very wet day at 11:30, I asked for a table so We could have a quick hot chocolate before heading home.... More

I wasn't expecting this! Stayed just 1 night on a business trip. Not only was the room very comfortable (so was the bed), but the lodge is situated in the middle of stunning gardens. The breakfast was excellent - and so was the friendly service. This was a great discovery and I highly recommend it!

This hotel/restaurant is set within beautiful and very big gardens. They are well kept and there is a nice pool. The room I stayed was also very big. This is classified as a boutique hotel but some of the furniture is kind of 'poor scic', rather than researched and expensive. Service is just OK. I agreed with the man at... More

I spent one night at the lodge on a business trip. The setting is fabulous. Wonderful lodge with great rooms and friendly staff. I would most definitely return if I am ever again in the vicinity. The food was top class. Beautiful gardens with great walks and picnic spot

The place is situated in a very leafy area of Durban. Getting there is a bit tricky, but the setting makes up for it. Rooms are very spacious and modern with all the amenities you need. Large bed and a lovely balcony with an excellent view of the extended garden. Restaurant on site as well as a spa and conference... More

The gardens at Makaranga are lovely and the restaurant worth a visit. Just don't expect your money's worth. We stayed in a suit which was nice, but let down by poor reception staff, a complex gate access system and a 'security' person who demanded we divulge our baggage contents in case we were bringing unauthorised food onto the premises. The... More

Stayed at Makaranga for ten nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a perfect choice for us, not wanting to be in Durban and visiting family in Kloof. We had interconnecting rooms which was very convenient. Our room had a balcony which looked right into the gardens and mornings we were awakened with the sounds of nature. I loved strolling... More
