Charlys is in an ideal location where the peninsula begins. Staff and owners are very helpful. Ibrahim was already communicating positively when I was planning the trip as I had to arrange a coach same day and was feeling apprehensive. The owner kindly picked me up at bus station (and it's only 10 minutes walk! ) Now that's service! Although room was a little dated, it had a comfortable bed and clean shower room. In the morning I saw the panoramic view over the lake. They have a cute seating area in the garden too Their breakfast was delicious; a full buffet of everything, served on a pretty terrace, just a few minutes walk away at their Fulya Pension. No need to be apprehensive here, an ideal spot for solo travellers to meet other travellers and strike up friendships; see below. If you'd like a tour, they'll gladly organise and are really enthusiastic about this region. It's very good value for money. So glad I found this place. Thanks so much for your hospitality guys.

We have just come back from 3 days' of Autumnal trekking in and around Lake Egirdir all of which was spent at Charly's Pension. I'd consider the pension to be a mini-hotel designed around the needs of trekkers and visitors who are looking to experience some of the marvelous scenery, hills and mountains in the area - but a significant step up from a hostel or similar, such that you can easily and comfortably stay there for the day reading or relaxing and enjoying the view over the lake from the scenic windows of the restaurant / lounge area or the balcony area below.
The staff are really knowledgeable about the hills and pathways - they offer guided walks or if you wish you can head off into the hills by yourself getting dropped off and picked up at the beginning and end of each walk should you so wish. The staff there are currently in the process of voluntarily re-marking many of the pathways along the St.Paul's trail to make it easier to follow; something that would be much appreciated!
Good clean comfortable rooms; free wifi, tea and coffee available all day, friendly helpful staff who speak both German and English and stunning scenery and amazing walks.
We'll certainly be heading back for another long weekend of trekking in the Spring and most certainly staying at Charly's Pension!

I stayed in the hostel dorm at Charly's for a few weeks. Location is great because you are near the main town (not stranded out on the island) and have a great view of the lake.
Ibrahim and his staff know how to make you feel like family. From the wonderful breakfast in the mornings to the dinners with a view, you won't want to leave. In fact, I heard many people say time and time again that they wished they had known to stay multiple days as they were only passing through. Ibrahim has many wonderful excursions he can arrange for you to canyons, hiking, biking, Sagalassos (ancient city), Salda lake, and more.
I recommend staying in this lovely town at Charlys for a few days to explore, relax, and enjoy your holiday!

+1
What a lovely place to land to after a long drive... This little but so friendly place has a real home feel to it. Muslum greeted us with a big smile and took us to our lovely small but very comfy room overlooking the lake. The terrace deck is a thing of beauty - the location makes it very special. What a delight to enjoy a drink there - sitting on the far left table, on coussins, watching the sunset over the mountains. There is magic in Egedir but staying at Charly's pension definitely adds to it.
Our room was simple but functional and comfortable. The bathroom could do with a little refresh though.
The breakfast was lovely, taken in the main room of the pension, watching over the lake. A little watch out though - try to wake up early enough to get there before the crowd as the breakfast is served for 2 other pensions nearby. We were lucky enough to be there early - yet again, lovely atmosphere where you find yourself talking to your neighbours or anyone crossing your way.
And also great customer service. We made a mistake when booking a day earlier than our planned stay there and Muslum was very helpful to ensure the deal was fair for both of us. I couldn't recommend enough staying there. Only regret... not to stay longer.

We had to break our drive at Egirdir on our way to Konya from Denzili, and this was perfect. Although initially we made bookings at Charly's, our host gave us offered us some better options, and was happy to put us up as per our liking. The view from the breakfast table at Charlys is unbeatable, and we experienced a snowstorm in the evening and then some lovely sunshine the next morning. Loved staying here, and interacting with the host. Definitely recommend if you are in this part of the country.

They actually have three pensions: Charly's, Lele and Fulya, which we stayed in. The room was spacious, heated (October), and comfortable, and the bathroom was very large, modern and clean. We didn't have a view but we also had one of the less expensive rooms. The breakfasts, which were included, were excellent with lots of variety. We did eat dinner there but found it somewhat overpriced, though tasty. The owners and staff are wonderfully nice and very helpful.

I am a bit at a loss reviewing Charly's Pension in the sense that every other reviews I read about it is overwhelmingly positive. Maybe we did not have the same expectations - mine were high given the prior glowing reviews - and that's where our experience differs. While traveling throughout Turkey my husband and I stayed one night in early October (we were supposed to stay for three, more on that later). Our first impression was... well not a good one. Two old worn out and ugly sofas greats you in the unsightly ''courtyard'' in front of the pension. Then you enter what is suppose to be a lobby, dark, cramped, low ceiling, derelict and very ugly looking. Nobody is there. Eventually an old woman comes out of the kitchen next to this ''lobby'' and gestures towards the back. Through a low door you enter the dining room/gathering room. Despite the fact it's looking onto the lake and has a nice view, it feels dark, very old-fashion, out of date and extremely rustic, but not in a pretty way, more like worn out and dusty. A young gentlemen is sitting at one of the very rustic and small tables, busy on his computer. His name is Fulsum. He does not greats us in, rather we have to go and see him. He checked us in and then showed us our room situated in the newer building. Our room was very nice, freshly renovated, two large window and a great view of the lake. Large clean and all new bathroom. Strangely though there is a door leading to a balcony but there is no balcony! This was the only real positive part of our stay there. The alley leading to this second building is ugly, full of debris and derelict. We decide to have diner at the pension, which only starts at 8pm, a bit late frankly. The food is good (but not great) overall fresh but not overly tasty either. We ordered the crayfish and they were very fresh and plenty. Wine is excessively expensive. It turned out to be quite an expensive diner for such a low profile place, we're a bit shocked. We browse through the homemade guide book for something to do the following day. Next morning, breakfast is a very slim affair, very few choices and a plastic box of what seems like left over bread is put on every table. Not at all impressed. We decide to drive up the mountain behind the village on what is said to be a ''very good dirt road'' to reach some hiking path. Well within 50 yards on that ''good'' dirt road - full of severe potholes and in very bad shape - we had to turn around in fear we would damage our rental car! So much for that activity. We then decide to walk through the town. It is overall dirty, sad looking, derelict and poor. Nothing to see really. The only nice part is the causeway to Yesilada. Wondering what to do next to fill our day we follow Fulsum's advice and drive all the way to Kovada Lake National Park. Long drive through apple orchards, beware of tractors coming onto the roads without stopping or looking out for traffic! Finally get to this Kovada Lake. It's a dull opaque green and polluted, there are no walking or hiking paths, no place to stop, nothing to do! Total waste of time and expensive gas. We turn around, extremely disappointed by everything we have seen so far in Egirdir or around and decide right there we had enough. We canceled the remainder or our stay at the Pension (generously offering to pay for the second night) and drove all the way to Antalya instead, where we found a very good last minute deal on a charming and beautiful hotel with lots of character and class in Kaleici, or Old Antalya. The best decision of our trip!

You come over the mountain pass from Isparta, a dryish valley. A couple of Marble quarries, farms and over the pass you go to Egirdir.
A beautiful deep blue, sometimes turquoise, sometimes grey (and many colour in between) lake stretches out as far as the eye can see, with mountains beyond.
This wiggly/ crooked Island stretches out from behind the mountain. Down you go into this little town with a couple of minarets to give the fairy tale effect.
Off the bus and walk out along the peninsular and cut up behind the castle ruins.
Then just tucked down a little street you find Charlys, as in Charlie Chaplin, white fronted with a picture of him on the wall by the door. The door opens to a dark hall with old wood ceiling and you pass down into the Old house. In front of you is the door to the salon and when it is opened for you and you step in you are presented with the most magnificent view of the lake and the mountains, snow capped in winter, framed by the large window. It is breath taking even when you know it's there.
The hospitality of the family, the comfortable accommodation, and delicious food make this a place, a destination not to be missed.

This is a lovely place with the best service I've had in almost any hotel in the world. Ibrahim and his team are absolute born hoteliers with a perfect instinct for making their guests comfortable and well looked-after. We arrived tired and hungry after a long drive, to be welcomed with apple tea.. Charly's doesn't do food apart from breakfast but within fifteen minutes Ibrhaim had collected a couple of chicken sandwiches for us from town. When we wanted to go for a long mountain climb, we were given the most careful directions on how to find the best route. Their booklet of information about Egirdir is a model of what such a thing should be. When we had trouble with our car, they were extremely helpful. The pension is not large, but it's very comfortable and friendly. Meals are taken on the narrow terrace overlooking the lake, which has a wondeful view. There are also several little comfortable sitting areas outside. Our rooms had beautiful old dark wood panelling and floorboards, and three windows with a view of the lake. Our children were in an adjoining room, with old oak cupboards fitted to it. The bathroom was clean and well fitted out with toiletries. The breakfast included cooked eggs, as well as delicious yogurt and walnuts, and the other usual elements of a Turkish breakfast. There's a set of steps that lead down to the lakeside, and from which one can walk along or access a little beach for a swim. The beach is of very sharp stones and I'd advise bringing beach shoes to wear. It's also got quite a bit of broken glass and other rubbish and if I had one tip for the pension it would be that they pick it up from time to time, and think about putting some sort of platform or raft there, if such a thing is allowed, to create a sitting area down by the shore as well. Egirdir is a lovely place to spend a few days, with good walking and the chance to do some sailing, kayaking or swimming on or in the lake. The slight reduction in temperature from the steamy August heat of the plains and sea level resorts was very welcome. If you are planning a trip to Egirdir, you couldn't do better than booking a room at Charly's Pension.
