The hotel is ideally suited for exploring the highlands and is only a 20 minute drive from the Skye bridge. We have 10 en suite rooms. At the Strathcarron we extend a warm Scottish welcome to all our guests and provide good wholesome food and a well stocked bar, which includes many a malt and some real ales too. We hope that we may be able to welcome you here in the future.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great location right on the NC500, and adjacent to the station. We arrived to find that whilst the restaurant was not taking walk-ins, we had been booked in as residents, which was much appreciated. The three of us had two courses each, and it was all very tasty with generous portions. My only niggle was that is was very dark in the bar area, but it wasnt an issue. The bedrooms rooms were very clean and comfy, and surprisingly quiet.
Two things made happened during our stay that were so funny, they were the talking points of our holiday. Firstly, the fresh fruit salad for breakfast was do-it-yourself, namely an apple, a satsuma and a banana in a bowl. Not quite what was expected, but perfectly adequate. Secondly, we had a corner bedroom, with the en-suite facing the carpark. The obscure glass is still see-through, esp with the light on! #flash!
Overall, we had a great stay here, the hosts were great, and the whole experience was a highlight of our holiday.

This proved a first class watering hole on our recent NC 500 trip and achieves everything it sets out to do. The room was quiet, spotless, comfortable and the shower worked faultlessly. The food was a variety of good comfort food and with cask conditioned ale available - what could be better. Well actually, the live music on the Sunday evening that we arrived put the cherry on the cake. Mine host, Richard, is an ex management consultant and deployment of his past skills are evident - the Strathcarron runs like clockwork.

We stayed here on the 6th September whilst we were with friends doing the NC500. I can honestly say we all had a great stay here, and the service that Richard and Becca gave was absolutely fantastic! Nothing was ever too much trouble and she made us all feel at home. We stayed as a large group here whilst on our adventure, and they really looked after all of us. This was our first stop off and we were all on such a buzz, the weather was amazing. We ate dinner in the hotel and had a rather boozy night, We explained to Becca that we had an early start and most of the group wanted to get off early and we had paid for breakfast, bless her she said she would make up packed lunches for them all to take with them which she did that night! And also a lovely bacon roll and teas for me and Hannah. The service that we received made this the best start to our trip and it really was fantastic trip! So glad we stayed here and very grateful for Becca and Richard. x

Structure on the A890 road, but in a very isolated location, away from some town. Actually there would be a train station 10 meters away.
Hotel with Bar and Restaurant (Dinner only for Hotel Customers or by Reservation - especially important in this area of Scotland) and private parking inside.
It has a dozen rooms, all on the first floor, with stairs.
Our room was large and the bathroom comfortable enough. Bathtub with shower.
Dinner with quite varied menu and good assortment of beers and alcohol.
Breakfast only on request, with menu to choose from the previous evening.

We wanted to give Richard and Becca a very big thank you by writing this review, they were very helpful finding Me and my partner somewhere to stay after walking in just as their last double room was booked. They made us feel welcome and well looked after, offering for us to come have dinner. The food was soul warming, something you need when in cold Scottish weather. We also had breakfast which we originally wasn’t going to have until we got into sky but the offering of a full Scottish breakfast with haggis we couldn’t refuse :)

I had walked many many miles, the Strathcarron pub was for me an oasis my first real stopping point for civilization. I met kind happy people the drinks are 100% the food was ace, fish n chips (plus bread n butter X 2 for free). The staff went out of their way to give advice n help for my ongoing journey, I charged my phone and power bank plus used their WiFi to download new video's for the next stage of my long distance hike, I loved this place :D Yes they might charge an extra £2 for food but it was well worth it, n remember this ain't Spain they can only work through the summer months. I am writing this because I am so grateful that places like this are open and happy to serve, especially when I walk in looking scruffy. Thank you Straffcarron pub/hotel for making me feel welcome, I will be back, long may places like you stay open so I can stop for company, drinks and quality food. 5 stars, recommended X 10

Called here to see if we could park up over night, they said yes and showed us a small piece of land at the back that you would get 4 motorhomes on the Land lady also said if I required hook up I could park up at the back of the hotel, they moved a couple of vehicles for us and got us sorted in 5mins, we went in the bar and had a meal which was really good, they could not do enough for us and everything was spot on.
During the winter the land lady told us the where going to make the motorhome stop over piece of land better so that it was more acceptable to all.
Great stop over with lovley staff and great food.
Call in and check it out

You can be assured of a warm welcome at Strathcarron but sadly what is on offer falls well short what you would expect at the prices charged. Everything about the place feels run down. Furnishings, bedding and towels were of the cheapest type, plumbing was suspect and decoration was circa 1970s. There was little choice for breakfast and ingredients were basic. This is a ‘pub with rooms’ that would be adequate as a hostel at the right price but is cannot be compared with a decent highland hotel.

Response from Richard Thompson, Owner at Strathcarron Hotel

Thanks for letting us know you were unhappy whilst you were here and giving us a chance to make things better, NOT. It’s expensive in order to provide you with the service you require in July, which there is no demand for in December, so we try to make enough money in July/August to see us through the winter and be able to provide the service for you again next year. Also, we’ve had so much money the last 18 months but we decided not to spend it on upgrades, lol…. Thanks for your understanding. Good luck finding somewhere else to stay in the west highlands any cheaper. Thanks for your support during these difficult times. Other readers, read our other reviews from non entitled people before making up your mind whether or not to stay with us 😎

We stayed for two nights with our dogs while touring the Highlands.

Richard and his team made us feel very welcome, including the dogs. He is clearly driven to provide a great service and offers comfortable accommodation and good home-cooked food. Despite other reviews, limited wifi is not life threatening.

Many thanks for recommending the Clachaig Inn at Glen Coe - it is brilliant.

We were staying nearby and ate here one evening. We both chose the lamb rogan josh and a soft drink. The food was very good - plentiful rice, yummy bread (I think it was a chapatti) and nicely flavoured sauce. There were a couple of chewy bits of lamb, but most of it was tender and had clearly been cooked well. Not bad for £10 a dish in such a remote location. Covid precautions were in place and being taken seriously, with disposable crockery and cutlery, and we were left to open and pour our cans of soft drink. Staff were cheerful and friendly. We sat at an outside table with views of the valley and surrounding hills. Worth a pitstop.
