We just returned from a 12 night stay and I do agree with many of the previous comments. We also arrived on the red eye and were charged the early check in fee which is ridiculous. The hotel never reached more than 70% capacity. The...More
We booked 4 nights at the Rarotongan and 4 nights at the sister resort in Aitutaki. What a huge let down this was after so much planning and anticipation. This is a run down dump to be frank. A local told us that it is...More
Fortunately not staying here, we popped in for cocktails and were extremely dissapointed to find such a rundown hotel, it felt dirty, rundown and very tired. Has guttering falling off the roof and just general delapidation.
First, it's an older property with potential. We stayed for 5 nights over the Christmas holiday, and found the staff to be mostly polite.
The snorkeling in the deeper lagoon areas was excellent, with literally hundreds of fish. The water was choppy from time to...More
Had a wonderful time it was a great place to base ourselves for exploring the island or just chilling on the beach. When we had to push our wedding back a day due to illness all the staff were extremely helpful and understanding. Overall we...More

Hi...Rarotonga is very small so we only hired a car for one day and the rest of the 10 days just used local transport but of course it's handy to have one. We took a taxi to the Rarotongan on arrival and didn't prebook. We received excellent customer service at the Rarotongan. People were awesome. Just need to adjust expectations as they are on island time.
I was told about $40 but apparently you need to pre negotiate with driver on price before you get in, and also confirm with them if it is Per Person or for the whole taxi trip. I am thinking its just as cheap to book a car... More
I was told about $40 but apparently you need to pre negotiate with driver on price before you get in, and also confirm with them if it is Per Person or for the whole taxi trip. I am thinking its just as cheap to book a car from airport so we are thinking of doing this. The shuttle services arent cheap and are per person plus upto 1/2 hour waiting at other resorts etc.
