Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I and our 2 dogs stayed for 4 nights in August 2020. Covid restrictions were in place but this did not detract from the beauty of the area and the quality of the accommodation. Linda was a wonderful host. She greeted us on arrival (from a safe distance) and had left a welcome tray for us with homemade cakes and hot drinks. We stayed in the Stable Cottage. It had everything you could need and more. It was quaint but spacious and well equipped. The attic bedroom was warm and comfortable. Each apartment or cottage has its own designated patio table and chairs. There is a lawned doggy area and parking on site. Everything was spotlessly clean and Linda explained the procedures they had in place to ensure that they were cleaned and changed between guests to ensure that they met (or exceeded) all of the covid requirements. I cannot rate Pack Horse highly enough and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Just completed a week staying in this lovely place. There are a number of different sized accommodations mostly centred around a courtyard with a river running right by. We stayed in Stable Cottage which has 2 bedrooms and was ideal for our family of 4. Accommodation was clean, comfortable and well appointed (kitchen has just been fully renovated). The friendly owners are very approachable and were quite happy to provide a BBQ for an impromptu evening meal on a lovely warm evening. The measures put in place to combat COVID (eg sanitizer at entrance to every accommodation) were also thoughtful and reassuring.

The location is glorious situated right by an old pack horse bridge. There are a number of walks on wooded hillsides or on the coast directly accessible from the property. It’s also very handy for A39 so a handy base for exploring further afield as well.

We’ve already booked another week and look forward to coming back

Second time of staying here. Exactly as we remembered it to be. Stunning. Made to feel very safe and welcome. (Hand sanitizer stations provided)
Stayed in bridge view apartment which has the balcony overlooking the packhorse bridge,And the beautiful peaceful surroundings of Allerford.
Apartment well equipped with essentials, beds extremely comfortable. Where the apartment is positioned it catches both morning and afternoon sun. Linda and Brian extremely friendly and always ready to have a chat. On arrival we had been left a much needed tray of drinks and homemade cake. Plenty of walks from the doorstep or a 3minute drive to Lynmouth/Lynton. Thankyou for a wonderful stay. Will definitely be back.

I visited the Packhorse with my husband and daughter from the 29th of August to the 5th of September; the accommodation was very comfortable with lovely views and a charming courtyard. We were astounded by the natural beauty that surrounded us and felt that the whole area made for a very relaxing stay. The place is wonderful and Linda and Brian are incredibly friendly. They made sure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay at their lovely Rose Cottage, which backed on too a stream. We would love to come back one day; it really is a hidden jewel and a place to visit.

The Coopers.

The most relaxing place we have been to. The sound of trickling water and singing birds is all you can hear. We opened all our windows day and night so we could hear all the tranquil and relaxing country sounds. We really relaxed here. It was great that we could bring our puppy with us. The owners are very friendly who love doggies also. This area is not good for children as not much to do, the beaches are only pebbles and rocks, and all things closed at 4.00pm. This location is 100% Perfect for a walking holiday and for active dogs who can join your walks. Beautiful place, lovely owners, clean rooms...Perfect for a walking, exploring, holiday...The most relaxing place to relax after a day of walking....Stunning. 100% recommend this Beautiful location to walkers. x

Stunning picturesque location in Exmoor National Park with comfortable, self-contained accommodation (6 apartments of varying size for couples and family lets) around a shared riverside courtyard. We spent a wonderful week’s holiday just unwinding and visiting the local attractions. The cottages were warm, well appointed and with all modern conveniences including fast, free Wi-Fi, and the owners could not have been more accommodating for guests.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will definitely return.

Another lovely visit to The Packhorse. Brian & Linda are very welcoming & nothing is too much trouble. The delicious cream tea on arrival means the holiday starts the minute you arrive. We stayed in Honeysuckle which is small & cosy.
Now looking forward to a return visit in the Autumn.

We spent a week here with Linda and Brian, who are such amazing hosts. Greeted with a proper cream tea in our rooms provided by Linda. The rooms in the Stables were amazing, so clean and cosy, and everything readily to hand. A really quiet and peaceful place to stay, yet so convenient. There is a bus stop just 5 minutes walk away, and you must take the open top bus along the coast to Lynmouth. An easy walk takes you through Bossington to the beach, and then along to Porlock Weir. Plenty of places to drink and eat in the area. recommend Cross Lane Restaurant, just next door. An ideal place to base yourself for walks, bus rides or even drives, on and around Exmoor. Highly recommended.

We stayed here in August within the first few days of Wills and Paul taking over the business and couldn’t have been more impressed! A beautiful little cottage alongside a babbling brook, which was perfect for our family of three, our little boy LOVED his room.

But more than all that, the owners were just SO lovely, they completely made our stay.

They couldn’t have been more welcoming, and were so helpful and friendly throughout the week. They even recommended a place to visit that we’d never heard of before (despite visiting the area off and on since childhood) that is now our new favourite beach!

We are already looking forward to coming back again next year, thank you so much Wills and Paul!
