We booked this place months ago and within 2 weeks of our booking we got an email through advising they have cancelled - no explanation! The weekend we are coming there is a big sporting tournament on so I can only assume they got a better price and cancelled ours. This of course has left us with no accommodation in the town as it is now fully booked. Unacceptable service - and I see it has happened to others!
Stayed for one night. Place is clean and comfortable. Perhaps showing its age in a few areas but nothing that won't be found in an ordinary home. Didn't get to try the breakfast so can't comment on that. Would stay again if in Ebbw Vale.
We booked the Ebbw Vale Guest House, 2 and half months before our stay, through bookings.com. I phoned the owner 2 days before we were due to arrive to check the check in time and ask advise about parking in the area. He answered my queries and confirmed he would see us on Saturday. On Saturday, 3 hours before check in time, he phoned to say that he was overbooked and we didn't have a room. He suggested we go to the Premier Inn instead. I questioned that we would be out of pocket and he said to come round to the guest house to sort it out as we were already in the area. We arrived and waited 10 minutes before anyone answered the door bell. We were let in and put in a games room and were told we could have a flat that was usually let out to contractors. We then waited a further 25 minutes for the host to find the keys to this contractors flat. He came back to with the keys. His attitude towards us was awful he treated the whole thing like a joke and was insulting and rude. He had no consideration that we had travelled for 4 hours and now had the prospect of no where to stay. We were led to a not very nice area of Ebbw Vale and shown a grotty flat with a dirty shared bathroom and dirty communial area. The electricity wasn't even on. We complained further and his attitude towards us stank! He demanded payment. I asked if we were going to get any sort of discount because this wasn't what we had booked. (We had booked a double room with ensuite). He said he was going to charge us double. We walked out thoroughly disgusted by his attitude and the room he had offered us. We ended up paying out much more to stay at a chain hotel at short notice. We had friends who had booked the same guest house for that night. They had booked 3 weeks prior to booking, but he honoured their booking. They had 4 hours sleep because a faulty fire alarm. They had no hot water in their room or toilet roll. It looks like we dodged a horrible night's stay after all!…
Turned up within designated check in time. No answer on main door. After calling a few different phone numbers... One number was a wrong number.... We finally got hold of proprietor only to be told he’s not there and told to go to local pub to wait until he cane back. Finally got into accommodation, very poor standard. Black mould on skirting. Dated and dirty in general. Proprietor sat in room demanding payment in cash immediately. We booked a £50 room only to be told we’d be charged £60. At this point we decided to leave!!! Had email from booking.com to say we are going to be charged for the pleasure of not staying there!!! AVOID at all costs!!!
Recently stayed here for 3 weeks as I was working in the area. Very warm welcome by the owners. Had a lovely breakfast every day. Room was very comfortable, clean and tidy. Highly recommended and would stay again.
