We’ve just spent a magical 10 days at Villarena with our 2 kids. From the welcome from Guglielmo and staff, everything was perfect. Apartment was beautiful, really comfortable and furnished in classic Italian style - the kitchen was really well equipped, and the views from our terrace were stunning, which made long breakfasts and lunches a pleasure. The hotel is gorgeous: small, intimate and perfect for a Covid-friendly break as there is plenty of space and lots of outdoor seating, and everything is sparkling clean and well-managed. Our kids loved the play area and got an education in Italian food and farming seeing the garden, ducks and chickens. We had several meals at the hotel and they were simply excellent - I’ve eaten my way round most of Italy and it was definitely some of the freshest and best quality food I’ve had. Leave yourself in Guglielmo’s care and he will ensure you enjoy wonderful meals and well-matched wines. Nerano and Marina del Cantone are fairly small villages, but with enough nice restaurants and cafes to offer some variety, and they are really pretty. Fairly steep walk back up from the beach but you need to work up an appetite for all the great food! There are also some other local hikes we would love to return and tackle once we’ve trained the kids up ;) …
Villarena Relais offers a stunning view of the sea. To this add the lemon trees and the terraces you have the perfect place to stay. Situated in rural tranquillity just 5 minutes by car from Nerano beach and harbour and just 40 minutes by car from Sorrento you are not cut off from the outside world. The reception will be very happy in assisting you with booking daytrips by e.g., boat to Capri or the Amalfi Coast among others.
He stayed here for a week in August and had the most incredible time. We particularly loved the beautifully maintained grounds and pool which have views over the town of Nerano and the ocean. We loved Nerano, It didn’t seem as touristy as the rest of the Amalfi, a perfect spot for a boat tour or exploring nearby towns. We will be back.
My wife and I spent a week at Casale Villarena in October 2019 and there are many things I want to praise. First of all, it must be said that the owner/director, Guglielmo, is a true gentleman and kind soul. After a harrowing trip down from northern Italy, Guglielmo showed us a great deal of generosity and kindness that we will never forget. He also has a deep appreciation for the craft of his trade and his passion for food and wine is exciting. As for the property itself, it is beautiful. Nerano is a small, quite town and the perfect getaway from the smoke-choked air and droning of tourist hubs in Italy which can be so overwhelming. Our room at Casale Villarena was sparkling clean and elegant, but still had the cozy, restorative feeling we were craving. The patio overlooking the Mediterranean with Capri in the distance was particularly special. What Casale Villarena does especially well is food and wine. I cannot stress this enough; you will be doing yourself a disservice if you don't take in at least one meal here. It is exactly the culinary experience we were looking for when we decided to come to Italy. Finding excellent dining in Italy was surprisingly difficult for us because, as I said, so much of the country has been overrun with tourists and that has hurt standards. But Guglielmo has resisted that pressure and the meals we had at Casale, home-cooked and made with fresh, local ingredients, were the best we had during our two weeks in Italy. His wine cellar is gorgeous and the care and expertise he puts into the wine is obvious. One highlight for me, which may seem like a little thing, was placing my order for dinner and then, a few moments later, watching Guglielmo emerge from the kitchen to pick some fresh basil from the garden just in front of the dining room, and then head back to the kitchen to put the finishing touches on a delicious plate. Just fantastic. As others have said, Casale Villarena makes for an excellent base for anyone looking to explore the Sorrento/Naples/Amalfi/Positano/Capri/Massa Lubrense area. Nerano is within an hour's drive of all of those popular draws, but you get to come home each night to a quiet, serene setting and enjoy a wonderful night's rest before setting out again. Of course, we chose to spend a day or so right there in Casale Villarena by the pool, which was perfect! This is a special place dedicated to a vision of artisanal quality and craft. If you are looking for a deeper experience of Italy, and not just the frenetic shuffling of standard tourism, then I recommend Casale Villarena to you with the highest enthusiasm!…
This place is a brilliant base for Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Ercolano etc. The dmstaff cannot do enough for you. Simple, well prepared, stunningly good food. Guglielmo and his staff are a delight. He sourced fabulous guides for us and can organise almost anything you require. We'll be back that's for sure
