We visited the Hawksbill on a day trip (from Halcyon) and loved the change of scenery. The food was good though not as varied as the Halcyon. The beaches were lovely and the staff attentive. First time seeing a family of Mongoose also !

We have only been here 3 days.
On the first two days of our stay we had No hot water.
This was finally fixed last night & we were able to have a warm shower.
This morning we awake to No Water.
The excuse given is a water shortage on the island.
On speaking to another guest who is at the front of the resort he witnessed the water tanker arrival at 6.30am & the commenced filling the tanks, so hopefully we can have a shower later this morning.
It’s a shame that the resort has been neglected for so many years as the beaches & the grounds are beautiful.
We are in 130 in the honeymoon cove & supposedly have some of the best rooms on the resort I don’t think so!!
Perhaps the management would care to comment.
Prior to departing to Antigua I emailed both their Uk office & the resort with my concerns about various issues but over a month later no one has had the courtesy to respond.
Our travel agents rate the resort as 4 star & TA its 3 but my rating is a 2 Star.
It brings back memories of our visit to Gambia 20 years ago.
But in Gambia every thing worked !!!

We stayed here for the second time in October. The resort is lovely and relaxing. There is very little entertainment but who needs it? It’s just a relaxing quiet holiday. The staff are very polite and the food is okay, not five star but tasty and adequate. Someone mentioned rats at the resort? If they had looked a little closer they would have seen that the animals are not rats but actually Mongoose. The whole resort is tired and needs a lot of upgrading but you get what you pay for. The rooms are okay and the beds clean. Water is tanked in to the resort and sometimes it does run out but it’s not for long. The beaches are lovely but the surf can be strong. There’s loads to do and see on the island so hiring a car is a must. The biggest bugbear are the mosquitos and sandflies. We took everything with us for protection but nothing works. For me, it was a daily battle and really not worth the trip. Of course it’s not just at the Hawksbill, the bugs are everywhere on the island. We had a lovely time but battling mosquitos is not my idea of a stress free holiday so alas we will not be returning
to Antigua even though the island is wonderful and the people are smashing and very welcoming.

Hawksbill is a very pretty resort with beautiful views. As everyone says, it is a little rundown and could use some upgrades.
Rooms: There are two sections of rooms. To one side of reception/restaurant there are hotel-style rooms with balconies, four-plex garden and beach view rooms, and cliffside attached bungalows. This area has the best beach, is close to the daytime bar and is more populated. We didn't see inside the rooms, but we do know they did not have water one day. The island has water shortages so probably that side lost water due to the population?
We stayed on the other side, in the Palm Beach duplex cabins. Quaint and rustic, and right on the beach. The sound of the surf was amazing and it was nice to have our own little piece of beachfront. We never lost water, again maybe because there are so few cabins on this side; guessing about 1/5 of the number of rooms on the other side. The king size bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. The bathroom had been recently renovated. The shower was poorly designed, and our bathmat and floor were drenched after each shower.
Beaches: We visited two of the four beaches. Our cabin front beach, Palm Beach, was pretty and stretched a good km or so long. Beware of hidden, huge rocks however! You can't see them under the water because of a drop off a few feet in. One of the guests dove in and smashed his head on a rock, cutting it open, the first day of arrival. Walk down to the end of the beach, which becomes public, and there is pure sand and easier access. It is also more challenging to find shade on this beach, although there are very few people.
The main beach, which is more populated, has more chairs and shade, with a sandy access and drop off once you start to walk in. We spent more time on this beach, not just because it was closer to the bar.
Two of the days we stayed were red flag days. The waves were quite high, and you could easily lose your footing or be dragged out.
Accessibility: Our room had a bit of a walk to the restaurants and bars. From almost every access, there were stairs - lots of stairs. If you have mobility issues, this is not the resort for you.
Food and drink: Breakfast and dinner are served on the Terrace, in the middle of the resort next to reception. The evening bar is also there but doesn't open until 6 PM.
There is an a la carte, which we did not book. I'm not sure of it was open during our visit.
Lunch and the daytime bar are on the main beach and the bar opens at 10 am.
Meals were good, and we always had something to eat, although I wouldn't say it was great food. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We tired of the menus within a few days. Coffee was instant, and it was hard to find anything other than coffee, tea or alcohol. There were water dispensers in reception and the beach bar, but they were frequently empty.
Entertainment: A few evenings had special events such as a cocktail party, a band and a beach bbq. Evenings end quite early. We didn't mind as we took our double brandy back to our patio every night to enjoy the quiet and the surf. If you are a nighttime person, this is not the resort for you. We actually shut the bar down before 11 PM one night, with another couple.
Services: The staff are friendly, if a little reserved. Everyone was super polite and when we asked for something, it eventually came. Island time seems to run a little slower here, and sometimes coffee or wine didn't come until you were part way through your meal. The bartender actually loaned me a wine opener for the bottle I brought, to be returned four days later. Once you got the staff talking, they were super friendly.
Our room was kept clean, but I would have preferred a little cleaner. It's hard to keep sand out of your room, and when it's not swept up properly, it accumulates. Our sheets were not changed once during the week. We understand the water shortage, but the sand in the bed became uncomfortable after about four nights. It wasn't intolerable, but if you are a clean freak, it may not meet your standards.
Bugs: We've been to eight Carribean islands, and have a property in northern Ontario, Canada, so we are used to bugs. But the sand fleas are really bad. The staff fog at night, and go in and fog your room while you are at dinner. We also brought our own can to fog our patio so we could sit out at night. We used a lot of bug spray. Probably the most sand fleas we've experienced in our travels, but we used bug spray all day and night and it wasn't super uncomfortable.
Our Air Canada Rep was not super informative. It was hard to find information and when we booked tours, we had to know the right questions to ask as she wasn't giving us all of the information. We didn't go to her to ask questions, we asked at reception or other guests.
Would we come again? No. But we enjoyed a quiet, relaxing, no-frills vacation.

I wonder whether the people who have written glowing reviews were at the same hotel as myself and family recently.
My experience at the Hawksbill was not really a pleasant one. From the moment of arriving I was bitten by mosquitoes and this continued for the whole week I was there. I never once saw them spray the hotel for the mosquitoes although the manager said this was done twice a week. The flies were particularly bad, especially in the restaurant and bar areas. There seemed to be no action from the staff to clear away plates and glasses and wiping down tables and surfaces in a timely fashion which I feel would go some way to alleviating the issue. They seemed to be far more interested in checking their phones. After complaints from myself and I assume other guests the hotel did make some effort to clean the beach bar but flies were still a problem. We visited the donkey sanctuary on the island and I kid you not, there were less flies in their paddock.
The accommodation is very tired and in need of some money being spent to renovate. Unfortunately because of the storms most of the beach had disappeared and the Eden beach really needs to be cleaned up, with rubbish and broken sun beds it looked really uncared for.
Food was a buffet style and basic, but there was plenty of it.
The beds were comfy.
Some of the staff were great but there were some who bordered on being rude.
All in all not the best resort.
