I stayed at Bajan Breeze because I wanted a more authentic holiday. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

THE HOUSE

The house was completely in 2005, so everything is new. The sitting room is comfy and you can enjoy listening to music (feel free to bring your own CDs), or watching a DVD. I especially enjoyed mornings in the sitting room drinking coffee, reading, or checking email on my laptop. Lizzie was usually around to keep me company. She's a sweet and highly intelligent young pup of Jack Russell descent.

THE ROOMS

The beds are comfy and made up with nice linens. I used the fan quite often, but I never felt the need for air conditioning. Rooms have a little fridge to store drinks and snacks. My room came with a CD/stereo and a TV. There’s plenty of wardrobe space to store hanging clothes and drawer space to store other belongings. You'll have your own private bath. No need to pack a hair dryer because that's included as well. The walls must be quite thick because I never heard noise from the living room or other guest room. There's no swimming pool, but if you absolutely need to find a pool, ask the owner to advise you.

THE HOSTESS

Karen is a most gracious hostess. She is there to make sure that your holiday is everything you want/need it to be. She lives at the back of the house, so if you decide to come home giggling at 4am from too much rum, you don’t need to worry about disturbing her.

THE FOOD

I don't normally eat a lot in tropical climates, but Karen is such a fantastic cook that I found myself devouring meal after meal... everything from traditional English roast dinners to pizza, chips, and salad. I packed on 5 lbs during my stay... so beware! If you let Karen know in advance, she can give you a wake up call that comes in the form of a knock at your door and the hot beverage of your choice to enjoy in your room while you ponder the day's agenda.

THE PRIVATE TOURS

Karen organized several private tours for me which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Monkey Spring: beautiful natural spring in the countryside with picnic

Pothole Spring: another beautiful natural spring and with a side trip to Bathsheba

East Coast Beaches: Foul Bay, Bottom Bay, Crane Beach (easy to see all three in one day)

Sunday Night Karaoke in Holetown: great people watching, ice cold beer, and cheap popcorn!

Friday afternoon shopping and karaoke in Speightstown: the shopping was so-so, but the karaoke on the beach was just plain fun/crazy! Don't miss this, but you have to promise yourself that you will relax and get up there and sing! The locals will laugh with you, rather than booing you off the stage :-)

I've been to Barbados several times before, but never had I seen anything as interesting as these trips to out of way places. Some of them you could manage by bus, but having a guide made it much more efficient.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Harts Gap is an interesting street. It's fun to sit on the porch and watch the people passing by. Coconut Court Hotel/beach is quick walk and a lovely place to spend the day, or take a walk on the beach at sunset. Say "HI" to Sonya, at the Sea Grape Beach Bar. She's a nice lady!

Clark's Deli on the corner: Friendly owner who knows a lot about Barbados history. Try the Bajan lamb stew or chicken chowmein (tasty, but watch for bits of bones).

Mama Mia around the corner: full breakfast $16BDS (eggs, sausage & bacon, toast & jam). Heavenly lattes for $5BDS. The Italian mama/owner isn't friendly, but the rest of the staff makes up for it. If you need to escape the sun, this is a good place to chill out (A/C) and write some post cards.

Convenience mart (corner of Harts Gap/main road) sells inexpensive sandwiches and snacks ($3-5BDS), plus Ruth, the owner, makes yummy breads onsite. She's a sweet lady. I stopped almost every day to purchase something, even if it was just a Barbados newspaper.

Red Rooster Pub: say "HI" to Romeo, the manager/bartender. Most nights are quiet unless there's a band on.

Amaryllis Hotel: nice beach

Hilton Hotel: beautiful small beach with white powdery sand

Taxi to St. Lawrence Gap *or* Bridgetown runs $15BDS (same price in either direction)

ETC.

I took Rastafarian cooking lessons which was fun and tasty but left a huge mess in the kitchen. Not sure if this activity will ever be offered to another guest :-)

One more tip: Don't even think about having a meal at Joseph's restaurant in the Gap. Joseph's used to be one of my favorites, but the dining experience I had in January was atrocious (bad food, unclean environment, and unprofessional service). For a truly memorable meal with exquisite food and service, make a reservation for an ocean front table at the Restaurant at South Sea. The food and ambiance is comparable to The Cliff, and definitely more convenient for those staying on the south coast.

My husband and I spent a week at the Bajan Breeze Guest House. Would definitely recommend it (and did to other tourists while we were there). There are only 3 rooms in this guest house so it is nice, quiet and private. It has a superb location, close to the beach, public transportation, the Garrison, Bridgetown and much more! The accommodations are lovely. Rooms are very clean and cosy and each has it's own bathroom. There is A/C (for an extra fee), television and free wi-fi. Karen, the owner, is superb. Very glad we found this gem and would definitely return!

Ok as promised A review when I got back. I booked a month at Bajan Breeze Guest house in Hart's Gap, Hastings. The website makes this house look great but not having been or heard anything I was worried about making an unknown booking on the net. I should not have worried. The place was clean and the pictures on the web did not lie. My only drawback was that I did not have enough time to spend with Karen the owner as I was out from early morning till night but the times I did spend and talking to other guests were that she was a good person and helpful to those who needed information on the island. I read the guest book while there and guests were very impressed and she even took and arranged tours for those that needed this service. Hart's gap was not a "scary" place it was the first house inside the gap and I would and had no problem walking from the main road in to the house even when it was dark. The neighbours and locals all spoke to us and waved on their way past if we were outside on the varanda. I was not always accompanied by someone sometimes I was on my own. My other half even ran into some people he knew who happended to be working on construction nearby at Clarkes Deli so after work that Friday a few beers were had by all to say the least. It is at the most 5 mins from the beach and Coconut Court hotel was more than happy and welcoming to us and allowed us to use their facilities. Mama Mia's an Italian eatery and Red Rooster were all just around the corner. We were able to walk up Hart's gap and use the rum shop heading towards Lear's Gap and within walking distance to the Garrison for horse racing It indeed ended up being the perfectly placed guesthouse I hoped for, as I knew the general area. If you are looking for a guest house close to amenities then I would certainly recommend this one. You still need to get on the bus to the Gap or take a Cab but if you do not want to be in amongst the bustle of the Gap then for me this guesthouse is perfectly placed and it does not take you a long time to get into town as you are closer than you are if you are at the Gap. My vacation was different than most as my partner came with me and is from Barbados, but in the country ,St Joseph, so a lot of our time was going around the local areas and rum shops to find friends to say hello to. The local buses are safe and I travelled on them myself to go to St Joseph. I have been in Barbados often on my own as I knew Barbados before I met my current partner here in Canada. There is no "garden" to sit out and sunbathe but as I said the beach is only across the road to sun and Coconut Court also allowed us use of their pool and area if we wished to use it. So I was very happy with the Bajan Breeze guest house. It suited my purpose well. The only thing that I might have benefitted from was if it had AC as the mosquitos love me and I used 3 different types of repellent but they still had a feast. All my bites did not come from the guesthouse as the second I got on a bus or put my foot into the country the sandflies and mossies found ME but to have had AC at night may have kept the bites from iritating me to a certain extent but probably not. I did see some other people with bites as well, infact at the warm up cricket game this poor man was worse than me I no longer felt sorry for myself. So if the insects love you they are gonna luv ya no matter what you do to turn them off. Sad to be back at work and I am looking forward to my next visit even if I happen to be on my own as I have done this in the past and probably will again so if you are on your own Barbados is a safe place to go as long as you use your common sense that you would use at home No need to stay in by yourself go out and enjoy the island. Need to buy some lotto tickets to see if I can give up work and continue extended stays in beautiful Barbados as being there for a month this time has spoilt me for 1 and 2 week visits.

We spent a wonderful week at the Bajan Breeze guest house in Hastings. The house has recently been remodeled so everything is new, & there is a small fridge for snacks/drinks & a coffee maker, plenty of clothes storage, as well as a large guest sitting room at the front of the house. The location is extremely convenient for sight-seeing or relaxing on the beach - we did both! Karen is a very gracious host who lives at the back of the house, checking daily to guests needs, but still preserving privacy. Her recommendations for dinner were quite accurate; we tried Mama Mia's & Red Rooster right around the corner, as well as Harlequin's in the Gap. Our last night we splurged at Aqua, overlooking the water in Hastings. The Garrison Savannah & Barbados Museum, as well as Graeme Hall Reserve are all in close proximity. Amaryllis Beach is right across the road, w/ Rockley/Accra Beach down the road. Oistin's Fish Fry on Friday was a lot of fun & good local flavor. Thanks Karen!

I was so lucky to happen on this amazingly welcoming and beautiful guest house! Immaculately clean, superb attention to detail, excellent furnishings and facilities, topped by a beautifully welcoming and caring hostess in Karen. Whilst in Barbados I sampled many of the 'all inclusive' hotels, which some enjoy (cruise ships on land), and they were wonderful. I, however, was looking for a clean, friendly well equipped home offering me total freedom and safety. This was Bajan Breeze. I would never stay anywhere else, and can only cross my fingers that Karen has a room free when I return - but I'm not confident! Value for money? Much too cheap! And the dogs - oh wow! Three beauties I was priveleged to be introduced to! The Bajan Breeze made my holiday complete.

I picked this guest house based off of the reviews and i was absolutely in love with the house from the start. Karen the owner was so welcoming and caring from the beginning to the end of my stay. I stayed her for 11 days to the exact and my room was the most comfortable place to be. It was very spacious and clean.. The entire house felt like home. The house is definitely located close to almost everything necessary and of course public transportation is always an option if you want to be amongst the locals.... I would definitely reccomend this location to anyone visiting Barbados and i will definitely be going back there... Karen is the best.. this is a 5.0 guesthouse.

Apart from it being a bit noisy with the road traffic, this is an excellent guest house. Fantastic value for money ad located just minutes walk from coconut court hotel where you can access the beach and the board walk is not far. Very good area for restaurants and mini markets etc. Guest house has basic cooking facilities, toaster, microwave etc and refrigerator in the room. The host Mark was very relaxed and friendly. On the whole a good experience and we will definitely consider staying here again in the future.

staying at bajan breeze was a nightmare, no AC even if you paid for it, the owner walks into your room uninvited whenever she feels like and also invited others to have a look around as they was looking to rent with no permission from us. we were being awaken by karen very early on mornings with warnings about the lights and putting on her AC. eventually we had to escape from this place and seek a restful night elsewhere without no refund from karen. what a nightmare of a trip..... i had to apologized to my kids and promise to take them on another island. this kind of business is bad for barbados.

Response from inbarbados10, Owner at Bajan Breeze Guest House
Responded 24 Aug 2013
Dear Guest, Thank you for your comments. I do however notice that you state you and your family stayed at Bajan Breeze during March 2013. You will know this to be incorrect and that your visit was July 23rd 2012 for seven nights. You will also know that your ex-husband wrote a review on 1st August 2012. I can recall your initial telephone enquiry when you said that you were looking for accommodation for yourself, your ex-husband, your son and daughter. We spoke at length about what Bajan Breeze and it’s rooms do and do not offer to guests. You told me that you had viewed the website, had read reviews on trip advisor and were happy to make a reservation based upon these and our conversations. Upon arrival you both displayed your delight at the accommodation you had chosen, it’s location, cleanliness and spaciousness so I am therefore at a loss as to why your comments now differ so much 11 months after your stay. AC Given that you said that you use AC within your home in the States you will know that for air conditioning to work efficiently doors and windows need to be closed. I agree it was necessary for me to ask you to please make sure that the same were closed as constantly both were left wide open for lengthy periods of time both when you were in or out. While I agree you paid for AC within you rooms you did not pay to abuse the facility. Entering your room uninvited. I categorically did not enter any of your rooms other than to change bed linens, towels and empty garbage and do not recall that I entered your rooms to show prospective guests around. That is something I would not do without permission and for you to suggest that that had happened, you must have been in the house, asked for permission and agreed. Before entering to refresh an occupied guest room if the guest is home I will always ask if it’s convenient or knock and await a response if I’m not sure. Your ex-husbands review complained that there was not a kitchen or AC in the sitting room and he’d have been better off in a tent. Neither of these facilities are advertised as being offered. He also states that guests leave to better places. Considering that you occupied the three rooms that we offer there were not any other guests in the house to base this upon. Further, these comments are in complete contrast to previous genuine reviews. Neither of you at any time complained that you were unhappy with any aspect of Bajan Breeze and were sociable and pleasant. You had however privately commented to me that you were disappointed with the fact that the family did not wish to involve themselves in activities but wanted to stay home all day and that it was your wish to reschedule flights and return home early. While the atmosphere had initially been jovial it was becoming clear that family tension was building and it became apparent that it was indeed your intention for this reason to leave without a word. The accommodation you booked is as described and facilities offered, provided. Consequently I am at a loss as to why you would knowingly and intentionally state incorrect, false and misleading information some 11 months after your visit. Kindest regards, Karen

We stayed at the Bajan Breeze for one week in January 2013 although we had originally planned to stay for 3 days. The owner, Karen, arranged for a taxi to meet us at the airport. Our room had a fridge, kettle and plenty of crockery etc. The guest lounge has a toaster and microwave. There was an excellent fan in the bedroom and the location is quiet. There is a laundry in the next street but Karen even washed our clothes for us. She let us pay partly in cash and partly by card so that we could use up the Barbados currency which we had left. She even found us somewhere to stay in Grenada which we visited the following week.
The bus stop and a corner shop are about 2 minutes walk away and the beach is about 5 minutes walk away. You can travel all over the Island for 2 Barbados dollars (about 66 pence) and the buses are very frequent and will stop anywhere. The big buses won’t give change but the mini buses will. Some of the little buses drive too fast! The beaches are all lovely and you can swim anywhere.
Karen is an excellent source of local knowledge and can recommend all sorts of places to visit such as lovely gardens etc. The local people are all very friendly and we always felt perfectly safe.
