Once we sorted out some issues having to do with the AC and a hotel porter, we had a delightful stay at the Melia Santiago de Cuba. The room was quite comfortable. The public areas were attractively appointed and attended by helpful staff members. We enjoyed the occasional light local entertainment provided in the bar area of the lobby. Breakfasts...

I stayed four nights at the Melia Hotel in Santiago de Cuba, which is a 15-story luxury hotel that was absolutely packed during my visit, especially with very large groups of Europeans. The hotel has three large swimming pools, one of which seemed to be heated (it was also the most popular one). Most guests there didn’t swim in the...

Best hotel in Santiago de Cuba. And its design was not hard to pick out of all other buildings. On the surface it looked very good but when you started looking around the lack of care showed up. Things are repaired but not back to the original. Buffet was great with a generous selection. Pool was very nice. Be very...

Dear JCD4: Thanks for finding us the best hotel in Santiago de Cuba. Thanks as well for your positive comments about the selection at the Buffet restaurant and the pool area. At the moment our hotel is carrying out important works that will definitely offer much more comfort to our guests. Meliá will always be thinking in their guests, their...

What an architectural blemish on the skyline of Santiago de Cuba! But, once inside, it has all of the standard western amenities. Comfortable bed, functional air conditioner, three lovely swimming pools, a good poolside happy hour, and a huge breakfast buffet. My husband and I stayed here for four nights in January. It was very clean overall. The one downside...

I just arrived home to Canada tonight from the Melia and I couldn't even wait until tomorrow to write my review. The Melia more than exceeded my expectations! From the time we checked in, Yadira and Valia made us feel like part of the family. Check-in/check-out processes were smooth. The bellhop serenaded us with some lovely traditional music while helping...

It's a flat-out ugly building...even for 20-year-old architecture. It looks like a red and blue mine building. Nowhere near enough elevators. The only stairs are in outside 'columns' that are glass encased. If you have vertigo, you're screwed. The electricity went out on schedule each night for about 90 seconds. The water in the shower couldn't be regulated...it went from...

Dear Rick H: It is a pity you did not like the structure of the hotel and its colours. The whole building design was inspired in the best Cuban traditions and the Caribbean colours, which are our flag’s as well. We are sorry about the electricity problems, which are so rare in our facility, the same for the water temperature...

This hotel can not help itself. Out of the center of town, challenging elevators, main tourist hotel for the area, Rooms are large. Everything worked. No internet. (unless you paid $$$$$) If you are on your own, consider a hotel in the center of town. Best deal? two for one at the swimming pool bar in the late afternoon.

“I found my room amply supplied with towels, toiletries and a hair dryer. My one complaint is the lack of sufficient elevators as this hotel is very popular, often crowded and riding elevator at peak times(i.e. breakfast and when groups depart and arrive) can be a challenge to your patience. Accordingly a lower floor room might be an advantage but upper floor rooms have great views over the city. ”
