Been here for 1 week of 2. Big thanks to MOAD AND ANGELO & all the hotel staff. These guys have gone beyond great service. The attention to detail is unquestionably the best we have ever experienced in cuba! Thats right in 30 years of visits this is by far the BEST. These two gentleman truly care about the visitor experience. If your looking for the number 1 five star resort then this is the place to come. The housekeeping daily in the rooms is fantastic, Bar selection is over the charts whiskeys, rums, tequila, champagne, wine, and the very best Pina Coladas we have ever had not to forget the mojitos. We are so happy with this resort ! Food selections and restaurants are great, Japanese restaurant was such a fun evening with great food and people. We were very honoured to have come here after all the covid lockdowns for the past two years, all staff are always masked indoors and out and always cleaning they adhere to all covid protocols and it makes you feel very safe. Thank you to all at the Melia peninsula Varadaro for making this comeback so memorable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

First of all, this resort is beautiful and well located, the rooms are spacious and clean. The beach is amazing, fast and easy to access and has a lot of shades and chairs. The staff is, in general, nice.
However, the food service is weak. The buffets don't have a lot of variety and the food in general simply isn't tasty. The main buffet doesn't have enough light and isn't very clean, specially at the end of the shifts. The beach one is much better, but one day we had to wait one hour in line to get grilled meat.
The hamburger at the pool is terrible and the tematic "French" restaurant is a joke, served us basically rice from the buffet and VERY hard to chew beef.
In some days when the hotel was full it was impossible to change beach towels, every time we went there they had "just run out". As for maintenance, the lake at the entrance is empty and the bridge in the pool broken. These are minor issues but something a 5*hotel should be concerned about.
Overall we had a nice stay but the hotel needs to work on some aspects.

Stayed here with my boyfriend and my children ages 15 and 11. We shared a room that had 2 beds pushed together and a bunk bed. The room was basic but clean and the A/C worked great! We did have a day where the power went out and another day when our door was broken and we couldn't get in. But the staff were very quick to fix it for us. The resort is clean and well maintained. The staff were all very friendly. I really enjoyed the live music in the evenings near the main lobby. Fantastic. When people say you dont go to Cuba for the food they mean it LOL but we didnt starve. We always found something to eat. There is an omelette station for breakfast, lots of fresh fruit and I always found bacon and sausage. Lunch and dinner buffet was ok. There are stations for pasta, meat and fish where they grill it up for you. The buffet area was very hot and the meat sits out for long periods of time so beware. There is a 24 hour snack bar that serves fries, pizza, hotdogs and "hamburgers". We ate there a lot. The meat is questionable and they often don't know what kind of meat they are serving. But the fries are good! We visited in July and the pool was very warm as can be expected. I dont recall ever seeing anyone clean the pools but they were in decent shape. We stayed in the family area which also has a pool with a slide for the kids . There is also a snack bar at the kids pool that is open during the day.
The beach is beautiful here. They have activities such as kayaks, paddle boats and catamarans available for free. You can pay $20 US pp to go snorkeling a little further out. I highly recommend it. Me and my boys had a blast.
There is a double decker bus that will take you into Veradero to do some shopping. If you get a chance to visit Casa de Al I would recommend it. The old house is beautiful and the view of the beach is out of this world. I dont think Al Capone actually ever lived here but it's still a nice place to visit.
We traveled with Transat and we booked the Havana full day tour and the Jeep tour. I cant say enough good things about both of these and I will review them in a separate post.
Overall for the price we paid this resort was worth every dollar.

It has been 6 years since we last came here for a holiday. So much has changed since that last visit. Our room was clean with two double beds across from the pool.We had problems with the television ,thinking the batteries of the remote needed to be changed. Two days later, one of their "mechanics" realized it was the television itself needed to be changed. The thermostat was also an issue, either too cold or not cold enough. The patio door handle was gone making it difficult to to open the door from the balcony. The many items of the hot buffet were usually served cold.No orange juice here was a constant. So was the lack of cheese. We did not experience that issue in Havana. The ala carte reservation locations were an embarrassment to the food actually served, especially Le Bistro.Imagine a plate coming from the kitchen with a mouldy tomato on it.How many people touched that plate before it was served? The pool side restaurant had a menu but many times the item we selected was not available. Now one thing was a constant, the staff were friendly for the most part.No issues with the types of alcohol or drinks available at anytime but the waiting staff numbers were down so waiting to be served may have been longer on some days.Hours for the main buffet seemed askew. Some physical elements did pose as a safety threat if one was not careful.Broken tile on the steps on the staircase to our room could cause a fall to those with mobility issues or to a child. The end cap missing off the hand rail could create a serious cut if not careful. The walk over pool bridge was closed as it needed to be repaired. Many elements added to this fall from being a top notch resort.Hopefully the Melia group will invest some serious dollars to upgrade and return this resort to its former glory.Until then a +2 star rating stands from this visitor who also happens to be a TICO travel agent.

Travelled to Veradero with my family and friends...there were 12 of us in total! We stayed at Melia Peninsula because my husband and I had already had a great time there before and we trusted we would again.
Everyone in our group loved everything about the hotel (we are already talking about the next trip). We requested our rooms be as close as possible, and the hotel accommodated our request by placing us all in the same building. Made meeting up for meals, to go to the beach, etc very easy.
Beach is amazing. Warm water, cool sand...couldn't ask for anything better.
The kids really enjoyed the pool, and the little ones loved the kiddie pool, especially the slide. Plenty of fun activities to keep active, both at the beach and at the pool. Or go for a walk on what seems like the endless beach.
We loved going to the snack bar at the pool for a quick snack. Very yummy food. Lianet at the snack bar was just so sweet and helpful. Always coming over to greet us with a big smile. Even though she was pregnant, she was always working hard to get all our orders to us quickly.
Everyone enjoyed the buffet also. Enough variety of foods to keep us all happy. We made sure to always sit at the same table so we had Yordiel waiting on our table at breakfast and lunch. He was always hustling to make sure to take care of everyone (not easy with 12 of us!), always smiling, and very personable. He entertained the kids (and adults) with magic tricks which was fun. It was a great way to start our day with his cheerful attitude and constant coffee refills.
Front desk was always helpful and friendly. Our AC stopped working at one point and it was fixed within a few hours. Our room was very comfortable and always cleaned well. Nightly entertainment was enjoyable. The grounds are well-kept, and beautiful. It's a very relaxing environment.
The Japanese a la carte restaurant (Sakura) is really entertaining and the food is great! You have to try it out!
Can't wait to go back again (and again) to Melia Peninsula!

We are now at this hotel. Came for NY holidays with 2 kids: 3 and 6 years old. The main problem of this hotel is service and food.
1. Huge queues where you are staying 30 minutes each time. And when your turn coming it doesn’t mean that something that you want will not finish!
2. No fresh fruits. Only green acidic pineapples. Several time there were green bananas and papaya. Then guest relation informed us that they have problem with fruits suppling. Unbelievable. Means this problem will not finish for long time. If you coming to Cuba for fruits as well better avoid this hotel!
3. Same story with vegetables. Sometimes you will find green tomatoes and cucumber. Not each time.
4. Food is disaster. These cooks can’t cook at all. Beef, pork, turkey tough and tasteless sometimes not cooked up well. Only chicken was normal. Other meat better not to touch.
5. Cleaning in the room will be done only of you leave tips. Otherwise they will bring you a bottle of water and that’s it.
6. No any lifeguard in pools. Do not leave kids out of your eyes.
7. Any request coming from your room by phone is simply ignored. You should call min 3/4 times and shout to move the staff to help you.

Only thanks to Pablo who is trying to improve your mood each time he sees you doing his best to help you with your troubles.
We will never ever revert to this hotel more.

Our family of 7 just came back from a week stay at the Melia Peninsula. Everyone had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our vacation.

Large beautiful resort with grounds very cleanly maintained. We stayed in the family section which was next to a kids pool with slide and a wading pool for smaller children. There is an adult pool on other side of resort.
Our family rooms were large, clean and one came with a bunk bed for our smaller kids. The bathroom was nice with a sliding glass door enclosure and glass door for shower. Room service was good, however for some reason nobody came by to clean the room on one of the days.
Customer service was very good. A customer service rep. came by on the 2nd day to asked if everything was alright and whether we needed any thing. We asked for more towels and bottle water and soda (orange, sprite) and these were provided.
WIFI service as very good and fast throughout the resort, even on the beach. We were provided with chits for 20hrs and was able to get more from front-desk.
Food was ok, you won't go hungry but if are looking for 4 star food then you might be disappointed. Buffet breakfast included eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal and fresh fruit. Lunch lncluded chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, and pasta. Dinner was pretty well same as lunch. Waiters/waitresses were always quick to ask about drinks when we grabbed a table. We ate at the Japanese a la carte one evening, kids really liked food and the experience but thought it was ok myself. There was a 24hr snack bar at the main pool where we always went to grab some ham and cheese sandwiches in between meals. There was also a daily lunch BBQ restaurant close to the Beach that had chicken and pork which we tried once and was quite good.
Beach was beautiful, white sands and crystal clear blue waters, Free use of pedal boats, catamaran, kayaks was included but we did use. Drinks could be had from the beach shack.
Also there was some musicians during the night outside the lobby during the night and also some shows so at the theatre which we never attended. Resort was maybe 35% full, mostly Canadians, some Euros, S.A and Cubans.
Recommend you bring a flashlight because it gets quite dark along the paths and if you stray from them you can easily twist an ankle on something.

Overall we give the resort 4/5 stars and would not hesitate to return.

My wife & I loved this hotel, the service was fantastic, the food/beverage manager and his staff went above and beyond our expectations. Walk in shower, room , could not ask for better, servers served you the food you selected, much more hygienic than usual buffets. Please continue this, stops other guests touching your food!
We would return to Melia Peninsula in a heartbeat.
Huge thank you to all the staff.

From the time we entered the lobby & received a cold fruit drink to our expedited checkout, we found this resort to be very customer friendly & one of the best resorts we have stayed at in Cuba.
We won our trip through a radio contest & were a little worried as we hadn't chosen the resort ourselves but we enjoyed our stay so much we will return again. The food was very good, loved our omelette lady, our room was spacious but the cleanliness of the entire resort & especially our room was what won us. The management were always helpful Any concerns were minimal & dealt with quickly.
Our Air Transat reps were very helpful in booking excursions. The staff were always friendly & went out of their way to help in any way. There were always lounge chairs & palapas on the beach. The beach was amazing.
It was an amazing 7 day vacation at a resort we can honestly recommend to anyone. Try Melia Penninsula, Varadero- you will have the time of your life!!!

The hotel is nice, but could be much better.
The rooms ok, but without bidet. The old fashioned way to cover you night, make you a miss during the night. Wake up in the morning with blankets a miss with the carpet (which normally is not washed for every occupation).
The sun beds at beach are so old that difficult to lay comfortably. And much more for missing mattress.
The boys helping at beach doing a good job. Beach very nice.
Now about restaurant: except a friendly and effective serving (drinks) it was easy to see the missing leadership.
That doors open 2-5 min. Later is not so bad, but when open, the 3 “in site” cooking or roasting was not ready, which made forming unsupportable long rows waiting them to start.
The meat @nd fish grilling could start before opening doors. In 10 days, I trye$ it once, as I had no pacience to wait as number 10 ore more in row.
Most people like cheese for breakfast. Some few times there was non, whatever the lunch ore dinner had several.
If you do not like margarine, bring your own butter. However hotels in Havana serve butter, as well as small restaurants at the island.
Surprising, there are good tasting ice every lunch and dinner.
One afternoon, there was boulonaise which had easily been saved prom the day before. At least if it had been turned a little around, it would have been ok.
The first eg- prepairing station comming in from the hall, had most time the most smiling and friendly women. She was the best start of the day.

I’d like to know why guests that have had such negative experiences, why the resort is doing nothing to address them directly, by offering a form of compensation? There are enoug horrible reviews, with pictures to support the complaints. The best that Melia has done, is leave comments on the reviews, which are simply placating and completely condescending! Guests can have a good time at a 2 star resort, or any place that is advertised accurately. But when this company blows up their facility for clout and ratings, it is completely deceitful. People from all over pay to visit here. The poor and inaccurate description of the resort and its facilities, with photoshopped pictures, is alarming and cheats guests out of their experience. It’s also a poor representation of Cuba as well, sadly. Meliã, you have a responsibility to do better and provide guests with an accurate description of what they will be getting. Start by replacing the beds, linens, having a professional company come in to remove the health hazardous mold. Install new draperies and paint! Fix and clean the pool, provide more lounge chairs, get new dining tables for the snack bar, along with a stocked and working menu! Remove tripping hazards from the paths and repair the lighting. Train your employees in proper food handling, customer service, provide signage around the resort, to inform guests how to find their way around. Have staff socialize and integrate with guests, ensuring that they have everything they need and that they are enjoying their experience. Clean the beach and place garbage and recycle cans in the area, because your beachfront is a dump! Upgraded the locking systems on the room doors. Provide enhanced handwashing and sanitizing facilities in common areas. Repair locks on public washroom doors. Install hand rails on the stairs going into the pool. Show that you care about your guests and that you are invested in their return. And for god’s sake, invest in salt and pepper shakers!

Oh ya, to answer your question re-travel plugs, you don’t need a converter. As long as the two prongs are the same size. If your items have the prongs where the one prong is bigger, then you will need the converter.

Hi. Casual should be fine , long pants are usually required for the restaurants, we went with carry on only, and had lots of clothes including pants , as per the pool I didn't see many people in the pool past 6, there is a kids pool which is in a more private area which you might be able to have a dip in after dinner
