Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The beach is so beautiful and by far the best part about the trip. The VIP upgrade is 100% worth it. You get access to a little area with snacks, bottled water, coffee, open bar as well as a lovely concierge that helps with anything you need. Naidelis and Greter. Was so lovely and very helpful. They helped set up a great birthday dinner and even gave me a bottle of wine and champagne in my room. (If you drink wine be sure to bring your own as it’s not available anywhere). Raul at the beach bar was awesome. The entertainment crew down at the beach/pool were so fun! They made sure everyone was having a great time and always had the best energy.

Lovely stay at the Melia Las Antillas! Beach is 10/10. 7 days of pure sunshine. Booked VIP package and it was 100% worth the upgrade. Private VIP lounge with incredible staff who are always available to assist with any needs and go above and beyond to ensure their guests are well looked after. Special shout out to Naidelis our VIP Consierge- who greeted us every morning with a smile. We were celebrating a friends birthday and the VIP team and entertainment team treated us with two bottles of wine and set up a special birthday dinner. Spent most of our time at the beach- the beach bar was only steps away and Raul and Jorge were wonderful! Comfy beds. Cold Ac. Made sleeping comfortable.

First room we were assigned had a 1 inch gap under the door and mosquito infested. New one better but could hear an unidentified critter in the night. No wifi available for over 24 hours and then sketchy until day before we left. Food mediocre at best. Same things every day. Breakfast was omelettes only. Other resorts have waffles, pancakes, French toast. Ran out of wine, liquor and liqueurs. Cockroaches scurrying around buffet and dining room. FB page raves about the place. Must be a kickback to write good reviews. If they’re bad they can delete them. Pay more and go to a decent resort

Sister Trip Positively the beach was absolutely lovely: soft sand, clear crystal blue waters , lots of sun beds & shade. The enthusiastic energetic animation team were lots of fun;” chow chow Mickey Mouse” with lots of willing international participants happy to join in with the activities. The water sports are available & great as well as the snorkelling on the katameran . 24hr lounge did great cappuccinos & iced coffees whilst the beach bar best for pina coladas & friendly quick service. Otherwise slow ! Upon arrival we waited 4 hours for our room to become available . And upon entering it found a musty damp smelling ground floor room with a hole in the ceiling, bathroom light not working, missing key for the safe and a ground floor balcony looking at scrubland which didn’t lock ! As we headed out to reception to complain the main room door handle came off in our hand !!! No manager was available to us so we were signposted to the customer experience team. Thankfully Kenia was very sympathetic & arranged to get us reassigned to the junior suite room we had booked . This was bright, spacious with a very comfy big bed and reliable AC. Wi-Fi is unreliable and intermittent . There is a “lagoon” that winds through the resort . It is dark green covered in algae and when combined with a drains aroma is not an attraction. Signs say to take care as a shark lives in it ………. Don’t come to this hotel expecting AI luxury or indeed 4* cuisine . We understand that Cuba faces import challenges etc but the food was far worse than we expected. Fruit was under ripe pineapple, over ripe papaya and guavas. There was a lot of cabbage, cucumbers, aubergines & rice . And meat?? We dreaded going to the buffet to try & identify what was on offer & knowing whatever it was it would be there 3 times a day . No seasoning or dressings - just bland basic offerings that ran out. Bread items & rolls were  available at breakfast but had run out if you headed to the snack bar for a burger at lunchtime . The a la carte options were more of the same just presented differently & served to you rather than gel yourself . If you are visiting then make room in your case for some jam, peanut butter, sauces & seasonings. You‘ll need to be creative . And snacks. DO jump on the “hop on - hop off” bus to Varadera . Great opportunity to see friendly Cubans and browse & buy in the markets where they sell such wonderful crafts .

Cuba is such a beautiful country, and it was made even more amazing by the wonderful concierge team, Naidelys & Greter. Definitely worth the upgrade to the junior oceanview suite. These ladies made sure we had everything we needed, and more. Pro tips: open mind, open hearts, sunscreen, and mustard. Incredible housekeeping staff, kept our room completely stocked and clean. Also chocolate and magnesium go a long way. Great stay here. 10/10 would return.

Let me just say… this is a 2 star resort at best. I’m still here and honestly can’t wait to go home. I’m not by any means a fussy person but the reviews I’ve read would seemingly disagree with my input. Beach and pool are phenomenal. I completely understand the economic situation here in Cuba but so many of the workers were absolutely miserable, you will get all sorts of reviews that differ but this is mine. Bathroom needs serious work, rooms are specious, very limited channels in English, our room card had to be replaced several times, bars are limited, rum is the only drink they have, food is just terrible, repetitious under cooked, no bread at time amongst other items. One thing I must also point out, tourists this week were very rude, pushy and inconsiderate. I have had many conversations with other people here and most of them feel the day way. It appears to be more Russians here than Canadians, but I think we can figure out why. Please do not misunderstand me, we love Cuba and have been here many times and know what to expect. I was at the Blau next door last year and had a more memorable vacation. When we arrived at approx 10:00 am and tried to check in albeit too early, they said they do not have any rooms available right now because the resort was full, she also offered to give us a room if we were willing to pay here $20. What a joke and for the record , the resort was filled to half capacity. The most unfriendly resort I have ever been to. I have never written written a review before but felt I had to. I know that there a few positive reviews here but believe me having spoken with several people they will not be back. There is so much more I can say but it would take awhile. Cuba is in a terrible position economically but we are here to support the economy and put smiles on the locals. I Truly feel sorry for the Cuban people but this is not an issue that will get better anytime soon. I think all across Cuba we will find things we do not like but it’s still a beautiful destination to travel to. One other thing, the entertainment staff are amazing, especially Terry. Come to Cuba for the beach, pool and that’s it, the rest is a hit or miss.

This was our 11th time staying at Melia Las Antillas. We always have the best vacation at this resort! The beach is absolutely stunning. The grounds of the resort are always clean and beautifully taken care of. The rooms are clean and spacious and the beds are comfy. And the staff… I can’t say enough about the staff, they are all amazing. From the staff at the front desk to the lobby bar, the pool bar and the beach bar, the cooks and servers in the restaurants/buffet, the cleaning staff, the gardeners and pool maintenance staff, the entertainment staff, and the managers and guest services staff. They all work so very hard and go out of their way to give the best service and make you feel at home. They are the most friendly, wonderful people. The resort does a lot of fun activities for their staff as well as for their guests. They have special cocktail days for the guests of the different countries each week. They have Cuban Day every Saturday. The entertainment staff are incredible with running these events. They also keep their guests entertained by getting them involved in activities/games at the beach and by the pool everyday, and with their evening shows every night. There is always something fun to experience every day. This resort is the best choice for the most wonderful vacation, with the most amazing staff, that make you feel like family. You will miss it when you leave, and you will definitely want to return.
