Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I am shocked to see this hotel has as many stars as it does. It’s a 3 star hotel. Period. The service is very hit or miss.. some staff is friendly, others are down right rude. The pool is cold, not heated. Rooms are nice. Beds are nice. Would not come back.

Hotel's Favourite
We've stayed here many times over the years, and it's truly an iconic property. But what really makes us return is the staff and the level of service they provide. A few standouts are Miguel the waiter in the lobby bar, Arlene, Ninoshka, and Justin at the pool and beach, Hector at valet, and Efraim the waiter at the breakfast restaurant. All of the staff is consistently excellent, but these people go over and above.

We love the Caribe Hilton, and stay here whenever we’re in Puerto Rico. The service is wonderful and the place is beautiful. I love sitting on my balcony taking in the gorgeous view. We always end our vacation knowing that we will definitely be back and looking forward to our next visit.

My wife and I had a wonderful 5 night stay at the Caribe Hilton, my 4th time there over thirty years. Although showing its age in spots, the Caribe Hilton has a wonderful beach with a barrier reef which was fun to snorkle (saw lion fish, cuttlefish, numerous large conch, flounder, as well as tons of other beautiful fish). The pools and beach area are big enough that you don't feel crowded and the views of the ocean crashing on the rocks was wonderful. Also, the breakfast buffet was great.

Hotel and hotel grounds are beautiful. Staff was amazing. The beach is amazing and the lagoon was beautiful. We snorkeled and had a great time. Would 1,000% stay here again. That being said here are the negatives. As Diamond members we get the free breakfast. The line is looooong. No matter what time you go, the line is loooong. Like 20+ minute wait every time. And the 'complimentary' breakfast is fruit, baked goods and pastries, bagels and muffins. Eggs, omelets, bacon, waffles are an upgrade. First day my husband and kids up graded breakfast to get omelets. I stayed with fruit and a muffin but did get a mimosa. $80. Not worth it. The next day we went to the tropical cafe across the street. Great lattes and got exactly what we all wanted for $27. And that's where we went for the rest of the trip. BIL and SIL tried to eat at the hotel breakfast a few more times but with a 20 minute wait they wound up at the Tropical Cafe with us. Second- this hotel is where the pina coloda was 'invented'. We were very excited to drink the pina colodas. Well, they were awful. The worst I have ever had. So the worst I can say is to get breakfast across the street (just not the bagels -lol) and drink anything except the pina coloda. Other than that the grounds are beautiful, the staff is AMAZING and so friendly, clean, great location, great lagoon and pool. PR is gorgeous and so is the Caribe. Can't wait to go back

We ran into a few issues during our trip. First, the hotel pictures online are beautiful but once we arrived it was clear that those pictures were not present day. The hotel appeared to need a lot of maintenance. We noted that there were constant puddles and leaks down the walls and on the floors when it rained. They simply would put towels to soak the water up. There were cracked tiles in our bathroom and the tub/shower was peeling paint. The pools need to be resurfaced and not very clean. The rooms AC did not work properly. We set the AC at the lowest it would go at 64 but it would never drop below 68. It was very hot sleeping. Pillows were flat and mattress was not comfortable. The closet in the room smelled musty. The door handle to the bathroom was falling off by the end of the week. The advertised in room safe only sat on a shelf in the closet but was not bolted down or attached in anyway. Essentially anyone could have picked it up and walked out of the room. The hot tub was either scolding hot or barely warm. We included the breakfast in our stay which we booked two adults and two children. We waited in a long line the first morning. The buffet was ok. We then learned that our breakfast stay did not include children so we would have been paying an additional $35/per child every day for breakfast. This was not clear when booking the breakfast and had to dispute that with the front desk to have removed. The hotel advertises they have self-laundry. This consisted of one washer and one dryer. We used the washer for three loads of laundry without a problem. However, when we went to use the dryer, it did not heat and would not dry the clothes. Again to the front desk who called a maintenance person who unplugged and plugged back in the machine. It still didn’t work. Towards the end of our stay, to enter the pool/beach area we were advised that they now needed to do bag checks and no outside food/drink could be brought in after the beach bars opened at 11:00am. So, we were told that we can buy drinks/food from inside the hotel but cannot bring it out to the pool/beach which makes no sense. Most employees were friendly but many were not. They appeared to be short staffed. Overall, we would not return to this hotel. Disappointing for a Hilton!

This resort is a dump...very dated and overpriced...not worth $200.00 a night....shame on Hilton Hotels. The rooms are very beat up and the pool area is very crowded as well as the very small beach area. Had issue with our invoice and have struggled to receive a response from Hilton to discuss.

PROS: Location is great/convenient. Has a very calm private beach and ample pool space, plus a swim up bar. Felt safe. Yoga class was nice. My room had a decent view and my floor (6th Wave Wing) was quiet. Ubering from the hotel was very quick and easy. I enjoyed morning runs around the lagoon. Now, the CONS: The waits for EVERYTHING were extremely long: to get your allotted 2 water bottles at the check in counter (this should be changed, water should be available elsewhere!), for food (at Starbucks, breakfast, pool, lobby bar), for drinks. Two bartenders at the pool bar for a hotel of 650 rooms?!!! They were working their a$$es off. One of the elevators in my wing was broken, so I had to wait for that, too. Just really frustrating standing around waiting so much. The hotel seems extremely short-staffed, so because of that, the service was lacking. The food at the pool bar and lobby bar was mediocre, at best. Drinks were overpriced and not that strong (but that's not surprising). Room was also mediocre, nothing special and a bit dated and generic. But the bathrooms were clean and good-sized, and the bed was comfy. I wouldn't totally say I wouldn't stay here again. I was here solo, but it is a good place for families with young kids. So maybe if I was with my family, during a less busy time, it would feel more worth the money.

It was a disappointing experience overall. The pictures online are beautiful, but in person, it feels like maintenance is deferred. The hotel staff is very nice and very accommodating. The hotel overall is crowded, and loud, and was not the relaxing experience we were hoping for. You had to wait in line for breakfast every morning. It was a good breakfast, but the lines were long. The restaurants in the hotel were nice. We enjoyed those. We checked out early. It was not for us.

I’ve been a Platinum Elite with Marriott for nine years and have always enjoyed visiting properties, that have had special significance for me. As a boy I spent a significant amount at the Caribe Hilton while my father was based there for work. On my last trip to San Juan, I stopped into the hotel to show a colleague their beautiful grounds and to reminisce about my time there. Upon asking if I could spend 15 minutes on the property. I was informed that only guests were allowed to visit the pool and that I would require additional approvals. While I understand and appreciate the policy, I was a bit disappointed that the hotel was not flexible in accommodating a minor request to a Platinum Elite. They handled the situation poorly and rudely. Not only will I never stay at the Caribe Hilton, I will never recommend this hotel to my extensive global network.
