I stayed at the Sundeck Suites in August 2004. I was in Trinidad visiting family and wanted to "hang out" in Town (Port of Spain), so i stayed a 3 day weekend.

The location is ideal, within walking distance of my favorite hangout, Jenny's on the Boulevard. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, the rooms are comfortable except for one thing, the mattresses are miserably uncomfortable. The beds are twin size, which is not a problem, but the mattresses are foam and not a high density foam either. The mattress rests on wooden slats that I felt no matter which way I tossed and turned. I was in pain by the end of the 3 nights.

I think that because the place is a hotel, they should invest in the comfort of the guests and change to innerspring mattresses. Foam is not suitable for a mattress that gets everyday use. My sofabed at home is more comfortable.

However, I would stay there again, because the actual room, etc. is a good value for the price, and as I said it was clean and well kept. I would walk with my twin size Aerobed to put on top of the existing foam mattress though.

If you are looking for a place to stay that is central, clean and close to everything - then the Sundeck Suites is the right place. While the hotel does not have everything that the bigger hotels such as a pool or a gym, they have something than is hard to put a price on - customer service. Everyone at the hotel was helpful providing suggestions on where to go to grab a quick bite, to giving you clear directions on how to get somewhere.

The rooms are modest, but they have every modern amenity that you will need - including a microwave. The bathroom facilites are clean and modern as well with decent water pressure. Also, we had a patio off our room so that we could enjoy breakfast in the sun.

The only drawback were the beds. While they were twin beds, the mattresses were really thin. However, I am happy to report, the thin mattresses did not have any bed bugs and were incredibly clean.

I would stay here again. It is close to a grocery store, down the street from an Internet cafe and if you enjoy walking, you can make it into Port of Spain proper in 20 minutes. However, if you don't feel like walking far, make sure you call Arnold at ---- as he is THE BEST taxi driver in Port of Spain. Knows everything and has reasonable prices.

We were a group of 9 young persons on our first visit to Port-of-Spain Trinidad.
Having found Sundeck Suites on the Internet,I decided to give them a try. However I told them we would be overnighting, and possibly saty on depending on our flight time to Tobago.
It was a decision we did not regret.
The room was immaculate. Apparently, the floor tiles were new and we even had a microwave in our kitchene area.
The staff were ver helpful and most friendly.. the caribbean flavour was quite otstanding.
We stayed 8 nights and even negotiated a special rate since it was many of us,and we our stay was vey lon.
Trinidad...Sundeck Suites....Look ou for us in May 2005.Actually I made a deposit and will beef up pland when we have decided on our actual dates.

A group of us visited Trinidad and Tobago for a family reunion for the Christmas/New Year holidays. It was great to be in a warm country smack in the middle of a Canadian winter. We enjoyed the hospitality of the people of Trinidad and Tobago. This is a special time of year to visit in that everyone is in a party mode. I also learned that Trinidadians are always in a party mode. I enjoyed tasting the cosmopolitan cuisine. There are many excellent restaurants in Port of Spain. One major problem was finding suitable accommodation. The Sundeck Suites clearly does not live up to its promotional material. It is better to go to one of the larger hotels. The Hilton hotel had a special Christmas package which was well within the budget for comfort and a high level of service. Tobago is idyllic -- a good place to visit.

We stayed here for two weeks in the second floor and we have balcony overlooking the street. I noticed most rooms upstairs are bigger than the first floor. Parking is allowed if you drive a car but be aware that space is limited. At 1030PM they close the gate but it's not lock so you could still get inside. Don't worry there's a personnel inside the bldg. to check-in late arrivals, at least somebody's watching the place.
Taxis from the airport to Sundeck Suites cost about US$40-$50 per trip depending on how you haggle with the drivers.
Like many Caribbean's islands check out time is strictly enforce here and they will send somebody to clean the room even though you're not yet ready. No grace period here so pack your things early and leave on time. There you have it, pack on time.

I stayed here during Carnival 2013. I will start by saying the location was good if you plan to do a lot of walking in Port of Spain. However, I found the furniture was outdated and decor dated. The room had a musty smell when I first walked in and I had to buy air fresheners to make it better. During my stay, there was a problem with the toilet, when the handyman came to fix it, they suggested that we didn't know how to flush the toilet. Well the toilet didn't want to flush and when it did, it sounded like it was dying....there was a long screeching noise that dragged on for a few minutes. I had to demand that they send out a plumber to take a look at it and that took another full day before someone came out who fixed the flushing issue but not the screeching issue. After day 3, the only thing the maid did to the room was put in fresh towels. She didn't change sheets or clean the bathroom. We had to take our our own trash and put it in bags and leave it outside the room for pick up. We complained after day 5 and it took until day 6 for someone to come and take a look at the room. When they did and agreed that the sheets should have been changed (they had become filthy) and the bathroom cleaned, they brought the maid into the room and she got an attitude. She starts going on about how we had stuff on the table and the counter and how could she possibly clean the room. WTF? Upon check out, I asked to speak to the manager (at no point during all of this happening had the manager contacted me) and the staff said she was not available as they rolled their eyes like I was a problem.

All I can say is DON'T STAY HERE. They need to renovate this property and hire some better mannered staff. I was not expecting the Hyatt but I didn't even get Motel 6. I wouldn't even try their property up the street Par La May.

My family was planning to stay here for a weekend as it was recommended by a friend residing nearby. We stopped to check it out as my kids are picky about cleanliness & smells. We were shown a room downstairs & one upstairs. We did not think twice about cancelling our reservations. The reception was unfriendly

The rooms on the 2nd floor is nice - bigger & with balcony more of a suites. The one on the ground floor is smaller, worn out and no balcony. I stayed twice in this hotel one week on the 2nd floor and couple days on the ground floor when I came back from Tobago. Ask to be transfer to the 2nd floor when there is availability and you won't regret it. Good value for the money, near to small market store & restaurants (McDonalds one block on the other side - if you like), centrally located. Most of the bldgs. in this area are old so this is no exception but its well maintained and clean. Wi-Fi weak inside the room but strong outside hallway & lobby - just like any big hotel. No breakfast here so prepare your own breakfast there is a stove, microwave & refrigerator (utensil are little bit old). I rather have no breakfast than pay more for breakfast I may not like & repetitive. Make your reservation early as it get filled up by locals. Safe surrounding, I walk around 10:30pm coming from the restaurant by the Queens Park nothing happen no suspicious activity observed, and I check out at the hotel at 4am. I refute those dangerous comment! Travel 101 don’t attract attention, keep your profile low and leave your valuable at home, and don’t stay late alone.

Good value lodging in a convenient part of POS. Perfect location for pre-carnival events, but the price almost triples for the 4 days of carnival!
Walking distance to restaurants, ATM, grocery, panyards, and the Savannah.
Rituals (Trini Starbucks) just around the corner.
BIG negative: noisy! Before you book, ask if the dogs in the backyard of the residence next door have gone to doggy heaven yet! These dogs seem to bark day and night continuously at the drop of a pin.
Otherwise, a decent place, though a little dated/aged.
