South Andros is one of those places that you have to experience to really understand. The entire island has one road and no man-made attractions. Just small towns and open beaches. At Twinberry Inn, we got to experience South Andros in a way you wouldn't in a resort. Our hosts, James and Alice Sands were amazingly warm and inviting and were very accomodating. They showed us local food, told us local history and invited us into their home to try fresh fruit, baked goods and the different varieties of coconuts (there are 4...who knew?). People on South Andros have a certain pride in their island and are more than happy to show you local attractions and customs that you wouldn't find on a visitor's guide if you show interest in knowing more. Twinberry Inn was clean, quiet and right on the beach in a beautiful grove of coconut trees that were planted by Mr Sands' family and are nearly 100 years old. It was this sort of local history and the way of life on Andros that made us love the island. When my wife and I take vacation, we plan around certain activities and things to see, but I can honestly say that getting to know Mr and Mrs Sands and the other people we met on the island was the most amazing part of the whole experience. 'Your Home Away from Home' seems to be their motto and getting to know each of their stories and the history of the island really did make us feel at home.
