Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here for 2 nights choosing this accommodation for venturing on cycling routes 492/49, a sustrans cycle loop mostly off roads of 32 miles.
We received a warm welcome by friendly staff. Our room was comfortable with a really decent shower en suite.
Breakfast was fantastic and again the staff service was great. We enjoyed a delicious and very good value for money evening meal in a relaxed atmosphere. If we are ever this way again we will not hesitate to stay again.
Other points to note: free car park but if there is no room there is a free public car opposite; sauna and steam room available at no extra cost; nice and easy system of room service; great value for money.

Booked a meal for a family of 7 for an 18th birthday meal and the team at The Lion did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the staff were very accommodating. We ordered popcorn chicken with winter slaw, poached pear salad and soup for starters, mains were steak with peppercorn sauce, ham and burgers with ice cream for desserts and all was delicious and reasonably priced. The ambience was lovely with great background music, fairy lights and roaring fires which is a must on a winter's night! Well done The Lion for making it a lovely evening for a special occasion. Thank you. :-)

Very welcoming and friendly staff.
Although fairly quiet the atmosphere was relaxing.
My mixed seafood linguine was delicious as was my husbands schnitzel.
Sensibly price, even though prices everywhere have increased, we felt the meal was value for money, would definitely return.

Only our second time to Blaenavon, though driven through loads of times. First time in the Lion and so glad we chose to eat there. Lovely feel to the place, nicely decorated and a warm, friendly welcome. The menu was fabulous (could have picked most things on there). Order taken at the table which was a nice touch. Highly recommend the pan fried plaice and the ham, egg and chips, as well as the profiteroles and trio of retro sponge. We ate every scrap. We will be back. Thank you for making our day so good.

If you love food, you will absolutely love The Lion. Omg, I thought I had died and went to Gastro Heaven.
The staff are attentive and look after you from start to finish to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Mark, the owner is on hand to help his staff make everyone's night the best night possible.
The chef was definitely forged by the gods as the food is absolutely astronomical.

Met up with family decided to eat out after a days catching up, booked a table for 4 in the restaurant, the menu choices vast and the food came visually very appealing, cooked very well taste spot on, clearly this place has a chef with a passion!.
Front of house staff friendly and attentive through out our dining experience, the dining room and indeed the whole premises are well maintained and clean.
I'd thoroughly recommend dining here!

Good pub lunch., using local ingredients. I had the Welsh lamb, with potato, mild curry sauce and fresh vegetables.

Good choice of ales, including local ones. The staff were friendly

Easy to park nearby or in small car park on site.

Felt Covid secure. Nice and clean.

My partner and I visited here for a night away and it was wonderful. The hotel was clean and the staff were extremely helpful. Our room was cosy and the hotel handbook was amazing to have in the room. It contained lots of helpful information about the local area and the hotel including which wines would compliment the food - a nice touch.
Dinner was tremendous! The food had intense flavour and the portions were just right. Breakfast was the same. Cooked to perfection.
We will definitely be back.

Came across this pub last summer when exploring the local area, and didn't realise that their menu had such a focus on seasonal, local food so we had to come back.

Booked a table this weekend and the menu really did live up to expectations.

We had the juniper infused pheasant breasts to start, I had pork belly with chargrilled fennel and cider sauce and my friend had the feta, spinach and broccoli bake.

The pork belly was done to perfection, never have I had any so soft before. It was so juicy and tender and I was able to cut straight through.

But both my friend and I both agreed that the highlight of the meal was the starter. Pheasant was cooked with such skill and the flavours were incredible. Everything complimented each other really well.

This place serves proper pub portions but the menu really is a cut above the rest. Such high quality cooking and such local, beautiful ingredients. So nice to have somewhere like this so local to us that offer food like The Lion does.

Definitely worth a visit, we'll back very soon.

Hi, that is a bit of a tough one... one of our family rooms is an attic conversion (pitched ceilings) that has a double bedroom, with room for a travel cot and a separate living room that has a double sofa bed. That would be the best option. If you do phone and book, ask for room 304. Thanks
