Beautiful Inn by the sea side. Famous for locally produced produce. Abundance of shellfish such as Langoustines and king scallops. Elegant Restaurant. Cosy log fired pub. Elegant bedrooms; some with fantastic sea views and some with country side views. Open all year. Pet friendly and children too. Quiet location on country lane through the quaint wee village of Colintraive. 5 sailing moorings to tie up to. Delightful coastal walks and cycling. Great horseriding, quadbiking, hiking and sailing.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

McKinnley Kidd Tours had chosen this hotel for us to stay for 2 nights while we explored the area. This place is a true gem ! The room was large, cozy and bright with a fantastic view over the fields and sea in the distance. The staff were extremely kind, friendly & professional. They were easy to talk to and knew a lot of the area and it's offerings. In a million years, we would have never chosen this place for ourselves, but so thankful the tour company knows their stuff!. AND THE FOOD? We were blown away by the incredible menu choices and the dinners were 5 star all the way. Creative and tasteful, you could tell immediately that the kitchen was full of passion and love. If you are in the area, you must visit this true diamond. Wish we could have stayed a week and enjoyed the peace & quiet of this neighbourhood and explored so much more in this incredible area.

We spent one night here on our way home from a holiday mooching all over the west coast. This is the friendliest, most unstuffy inn possible - it incorporates the village shop and post office - and the food here is every bit as good as it sounds from the menu. if you want somewhere ‘polished’, don’t stay, but if you want excellent food in the company of lovely people in a characterful inn in the quietest place you can imagine, then get down there.

The lovely staff made me a delicious coffee when really they weren't even open and were busy getting set up for the day. You don't get that in many places these days. The setting is lovely too even on a rainy , misty day it was very atmospheric , thanks again to the staff !

Went with family for lunch. Not first time for me so I knew I’d enjoy it. My two young sons however, who are the harshest of critics when it comes to food, had their first visit and both agreed it was the best meal they’d had! Very high praise indeed!

We have been visiting the Colintraive Hotel for nearly 40 years, many times from a boat mooring at the hotel moorings, but also when touring th1s fantastic area. Access from Glasgow, Bute and Tarbert is easy by ferry, or a very pleasant drive from Inverary on good roads. The views from the hotel are magnificent both ways, up to the Burnt Island Narrows or back up the Kyles. Very pleasant country walks all around and the ferry to Bute is three minutes away. We stayed in Room 2 the Attenborough Room which is fabulous. The views from the dual aspect picture windows are superb, really comfy bed, great shower and all the amenities you could want. The new owners have done a great job, we met Claire and her daughter at breakfast wich was superb with local black pudding and very special sausages. So welcoming and friendly. Joe does a great job in the kitchen, I really enjoyed the Octopus starter and there is a great variety of local fish and meat dishes. We had drinks at lunchtime and the young bar staff were super efficient and friendly, a credit to the team. Whether staying or eating in the bar or restaurant you won't be disappointed in the Colintraive Hotel...one of our absolute favourites!

We just arrived from England and a trip of 500 plus miles for our holiday trip. All we wanted was somewhere nice to eat for our evening meal. Our holiday accommodation was only 2.5 miles away and our hosts recommended this hotel to eat. The service was good but the food was very mediocre to be honest and overpriced. Menus are not very inspiring, also when you walk into the loos they are not very clean. The Colintraive has a captive audience with the main ferry route but they are not making the most of it! We will not be eating there again. 😪

I used to go here a lot on sailing trips and with family but yesterday’s experience at the bar made me question a return .I strolled in to get a drink after quite a long walk and was initially totally ignored by a young woman who was polishing glasses but when she sparked into life she began talking to some people behind me and when l reminded her that l had been waiting this seemed to cause offence to the extent that my drinks order was basically rubbished despite the fact that l was looking at a bottle of what she said she didn’t have —anyway £ 5.50 for two cokes and we sat outside drank them and left -perhaps l totally misunderstood the situation but it was not a great experience

This is a small haven to relax and unwind. Placed at the narrows between the Isle of Bute and the Scottish Mainland it is a small hotel and restaurant which provides a unique -and “yesteryear” in a good way- enriching environment to step back to a happier and more pleasant time of life. The staff are superb, the owners are young, energetic and focused on guest experience- striving to make everyone feel special and appreciated. As a destination to enjoy great food and drink within a friendly and hospitable environment it would be hard to beat. Thoroughly recommend the accommodation, food, drink and above all the ambition and drive of the owners. Well done! This is a destination for walks, exploration trips over to the Isle of Bute (5 min on a ferry) and of the excellent coastline. We saw the Waverley sea going paddle steamer, twin masted yachts and prolific wildlife and birds, as well as all the yachts and motorboats transiting the famous narrows all observed from the Hotel.

I cannot rate a visit to this hotel any more highly. We have been on a trip to Rothesay, a few times in the past year and have always included a short hop across on the ferry to enjoy some of the best tasting food around. The location always makes it a little special, but both the service and food elevate a visit here. It is so easy to see the passion the chef has for the food he is putting in-front of you, and will always follow up on your experience. This has to be on anyone’s list of must visit places while close by. Enjoy

The quintessential small hotel with restaurant. A beautiful old building with 4 generous and comfortable rooms upstairs. The views from the front rooms back to the Kyle’s of Bute are stunning. We ate a beautiful meal: langoustine and oysters superb and the wine list was well curated and fairly priced. The decor downstairs is lovely with an inviting dining room with period character and great views and a bar space that shows a real pub character and maintains some clear regulars (which I love to see!). I could not recommend more highly. The overall bill for our experience was very affordable.
