Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Situated in a tiny village in heart of the Dumfries and Galloway countryside is the quaintly name St John’s Town of Daley. In the Main Street is the recently renovated inn The Clachan. We stopped for a light lunch and were met by delightful staff in a quaint yet historic building. The food was exceptional. I enjoyed the plumpest mussels I have eaten in a long time and my wife raved about her mushroom soup. Not normally dishes that would warrant such praise. But this was a treat.

The Clachan Inn- wow! The rooms were comfy, spacious, clean, equipped with gun cabinet, bath and shower facilities plus dog friendly! The pub itself was historical, cosy and unique in every way! The service from the staff was excellent, friendly, attentive and met our needs for our whole stay! The food was impeccable, more than that although I haven’t got enough adjectives to describe it- every meal was PERFECT and I would be more than happy to pay more than I did for the food! The whole facility is clean with a mixture of modern decor and traditional. I can’t wait to come back and I was sorry to come home. What a fabulous place to eat, sleep and enjoy time in Scotland!

We regularly go across to the Clachan on our bikes from auldgirth. The food is amazing, best by far in dumfries and galloway, the staff are fantastic and the setting is superb. A go to place for excellent food and service.

We stayed for one night and had an evening meal - great experience from both. Evening meals were brilliant and service very friendly. There was a good choice on the menu, including a specials board to cover most tastes - very well worth the positive reviews. Breakfast the next morning was equally great - plentiful and great produce served with a smile. Room was comfy and spacious - couldn't ask for more.

This is an amazing place to stay. Staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area (thanks for the heads up about the deer and goats!). Rooms are comfortable and cosy, feels like home from home. Best of all is the food, it is amazing, something you'd expect from a fancy restaurant in a city. Will definitely be back!

Another 4 night stay (29/03-02/04/23) at the wonderful Clachen. This outstanding,pub/hotel/restaurant sets an incredibly high standard on all fronts. Bedrooms modern and clean and comfy. Pub traditional with lovely open fires great selection of bottled and draught beers. Restaurant oh my god incredible every breakfast we had was tasty and plentiful and loads of options too. Evening meal the best we've had, immaculate in taste and presentation good price for the quality used. Obviously cooked by a food wizard!! Well done Laura, Phil, little Liz and Gilly and all at the Clachen that made our stay perfect again.

We went here for dinner on December 30th after receiving a gift voucher from a member of staff for Christmas. The setting was lovely in the Bothy with the log burner and a very Scottish feel. The service was good, friendly and prompt. The food was amazing. I had Foccacia, Sirloin steak and sticky toffee pudding and couldn't fault anything..the steak was one of the best I have tasted and I eat alot of steaks. My husband had the Haggis scotch egg, fish and chips and a latte to end. He said the fish was probably the best he had eaten and everytime we eat out he has fish so he would know. Thank you Scarlett for our voucher and we will definitely be back

The vouchers have prove to be very popular Christmas presents. So glad you were able to book in before the New Year and that you enjoyed your visit. The Clachan is now closed, a well earned rest for all the staff, and will reopen on the 27th Jan.

We stayed at this hotel after having visited it previously for lunch - which was very enjoyable . Our room was very reasonably priced . It was basic but clean, and the bed was comfortable. The bar area is like an old pub, and there was a log fire burning which was very welcome . The quality of the food is extremely good, and it’s very competitively priced . It is way above the usual level of pub grub. My roasted fig and mozzarella starter was amazing and my husband raved about his starter of pigeon, and main course of partridge. The cheeseboard was excellent. There is a great choice of beers and the wine list is good too. We reall6 enjoyed our visit , and the price tag was a bargain. We will definitely return
