My husband and I were looking for somewhere special for lunch to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. This was back in November 2020 just before most places closed for lockdown again. Despite the restrictions of masks, social distancing and the fact it was a miserable, (very) early afternoon, we couldn't have picked a better location. My husband had the souffle to start whilst I had the haggis scotch egg and both were delicious. We each had the fish maincourse which was just amazing. I just wish I had reviewed sooner so I could remember exactly what the dish was but it has stuck in my memory, it was that good. We're looking to return again when 'normal service resumes' and hopefully won't have to wait too long.
This was our first meal out since March and it did not disappoint. The food is first class as is the service. The restaurant it’s self has a nice warm atmosphere, with its log burning fire. Very good value for money would recommend it highly, but you really need to book.
The Clachan is a lovely scottish pub - friendly staff, nice food and good beer. Given the recent pub closures across Scotland its great the see that the Clachan is now open! We sat in the sunshine yesterday on one of the outside tables and enjoyed a beer, coffee and coke. Very impressed with the attention to detail in ensuring that customers are well looked after, and safe. Thank you team Clachan.
I've never had bad food in the clachan. We eat here whenever we come to loch ken to fish. On our last trip for my 50th the team had adorned our table with loads of banners and balloons sent to them by my wife. Then they'd put on my favourite pudding at the request of my wife. In case you're wondering we had beef cheeks for main and it was delicious but it just can't compare to the experience that is their vanilla rice pudding with cinnamon, brown sugar and salted caramel ice cream. The prices are very very reasonable and you'll not be disappointed with the service either. If you are going do book a couple of days before as you'll struggle to get a table at weekends if you don't. To the team that work there. Thanks so much for everything you did for me on the 15th. Ady
Staying in the Dumfries and Galloway area, we travelled 40 minutes to get to this oasis of pub loveliness! This part of Scotland is not renowned for its beer and the men in our party of 6 had been suffering from the lack of a decent pint all week. Two of us had visited before, so we promised they wouldn’t be disappointed and they weren’t!! Excellent beer, choice of 3 on draught and amazing food. The pub also has a wonderful warmth about it, not just because of the real fires but the decor and the friendly staff add to the ambiance. Definitely need to book, we couldn’t get in the first night of our choice! The food is imaginative, vary tasty and filling. We had beef cheek, duck breast and halloumi and aubergine burgers, all delicious and also pigged out on the puddings! Best meal and beer of our holiday, just wish it was a bit nearer!!…
