If you have your own car, this B&B might suit you. If you do not have your own car, consider something closer to town. From this suburb (Sabanilla) a taxi ride into the center of town (about 6 km/3.6 miles) takes 10-15 minutes (on a weekend morning) and costs US$8. Double that for one round trip per day and your... very reasonably priced, small, comfortable room served as a wonderful base from which we explored san jose. Madeleine was a wonderful host who expertly coordinated our trip to the volcan poas and made a breakfast that included fresh costa rican fruit and coffee everyday. She looked out for us like a concerned mama, and shared a lot of wonderful insights... More

We have only praise for Madeleine's small B&B. The first of May we arrived at San Jose airport and only through email upfront we arranged 2 nights at Madeleine's place. Other days in Costa Rica were not yet booked as it is low season. (staying for +- 3 weeks) Madeleine would come to pick us up at the airport and... More

On my trip to Costa Rica this summer, I found myself stranded at the San Jose airport late on the night of my arrival. The family I was supposed to spend the night with had gotten the date mixed up, and was asleep and so got none of my frantic "where-are-you??" calls and messages. Luckily, Madeleine, owner of Madeleine Bed... More

“This is a B&B, meaning you're sleeping in an extra room in someone's house. My ratings are based on my experience with B&Bs elsewhere in the world. My rating on "Location" as "Poor" was based on my interest in spending time in the city center, which is a good ways from this neighborhood. Also, there is little in the way of good restaurants in this area.”
