Having been used to afternoon tea at the Waldorf many years ago, when it cost £6 p.p. and you came out stuffed as there was so much on offer, sadly times have passed and afternoon tea has become very trendy and VERY expensive. Having said that, the West Lodge Park provides a beautiful setting, which is easy to get to and compared to Central London prices, much more reasonable. HOWEVER!...... the China may be good quality but it is heavy and not oldie worldy. Maybe that’s a personal preference but for me, it makes a difference to drink afternoon tea out of a fine bone China cup. When the tiered cake stand came out, I was taken aback at how uncrowded it seemed. Three finger sandwiches each seemed a bit stingy and the cakes underwhelming. (Had they been hanging around? The chocolate cup was softish and tasteless. Although the lovely waitress offered us more sandwiches, it was not until, we had started on our scones. Even my friend, who eats like a sparrow remarked later that there were definitely not enough sandwiches for a normal appetite. I can see the point of not putting out too many, to prevent wastage but dare I suggest the staff are trained to explain whenever the plate arrives that if we would like any more of anything, to just let the waitress/waiter know. It makes such a difference to know that it is no trouble to ask for more. We had the benefit of Eat Out to Help Out so the bill was £20 cheaper than normal. If it had been the full price, we would have felt short changed. Must just mention that the Earl Grey tea was lovely and a huge improvement on the variety you stocked a few years ago which contained lavender of all things.

Dear G9812RBelaineh, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I was really surprised that you didn't think there was enough food as normally people think its too much and often people request cake boxes to take extra away with them. However I am glad you enjoyed parts of the tea and hopefully we can welcome you again in the future. Kind regards Chris Hall General Manager

We staying overnight, on dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Our room was in the lodge, next to the main hotel. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The dinner was delicious. I had scallops to start, cooked perfectly and fillet steak, which was also perfectly cooked, followed by the blood orange cheesecake, which was delicious.
We returned the following day for Afternoon Tea, meeting up with some family. I must say, the English Afternoon Tea rivalled those that I have had at the Savoy and the Waldorf! Delicious and plentiful. Would thoroughly recommend!
The staff are lovely, friendly and professional and very helpful. Sharon, on reception was particularly helpful, showing us to our room personally and making us feel so welcome.

Upon returning back from a Charity Gala Weekend, some 20 family and friends, choose to come to West Lodge Park Hotel for Afternoon Tea.

We were warmly greeted, by Hotel Reception, and immediately made to feel welcome, with exceptional Hospitality. Family members, some being children were also made to feel welcome. We enjoyed Traditional Afternoon Tea, and Biscuits that were truly scrumptious, whilst other family members and guests indulged in Ice Cream.
The staff were very professional, and showed exceptional client service, with the customer at the centre of every interaction, which truly made us feel most welcome. In the background, we enjoyed a pianist, who played some of our requested music, even Happy Birthday for a young family member.

Above all, we had the pleasure of meeting Managing Director Mr. Andrew Beale, who made the visit a really special occasion. Highly recommend a visit, as do family and friends.

We stayed BB& Evening Dinner, and enjoyed our stay in this well located hotel in fantastic grounds of the family created arboretum. On the positive side the bed in our room was extremely comfortable, and walking in the grounds before breakfast was a joy. Sadly, the room was a bit tired, with the wash basin barely attached to the wall, the shower head in need of de-scaling. The hotel has responded to the current restrictions with some signage that seemed pointless and irrelevant to guests. The hotel was quiet during our stay, but service at dinner and breakfast was patchy, with staff seemingly paying more attention to each other and the restaurant computer than to guests. Having said that the kitchen was doing its best with nicely prepared and presented evening menu dishes.
Breakfast was actually a bit of a disaster, with our order being confused and my plate arriving a full 15 minutes ahead of that of my wife. The menu itself is a bit muddled, with what is included not being very clear to guests, or indeed staff.
When checking out we realised that our room account was not correct, with random items being added (breakfast items added when we were on inclusive rate). Worse, items of our dinner menu had not been correctly billed. It seemed that this was a common issue as other guests were experiencing the same problems.
West Park Lodge has much to offer, but it needs to add a bit of sharpness to win business in a competitive market.

Pass this place regularly but always been far more expensive than my usual business stay at one of two local Premiers.
However on a miserable January night, it was amazingly considerably less than either so off we go and I was looking forward to it.
An impressive drive to a beautiful building is a good start, easy parking and good check in, all very professional and pleasant.
The room was reasonable but compact size, well presented and good facilities, it looked good as did the bathroom.
In normal circumstances I would be very very positive but I stay in hotels expecting a reasonable nights sleep and I am sure most people would get that here, but I didn’t!
The reason? the bed was just not long enough.
Just reminds me of time I bought a Bentley after wanting one for years only to find it absolutely superb in every way except my BMW 7 was comfier!
I really don’t want to say this because I love the hotel but Premier beds are better, I get a better nights sleep which is what I need.
Would I return? If i was 5ft 10” definitely and even at 6’2” i suspect I will cos it is nice and hopefully other rooms have longer beds.

Dear arthurh, We are glad you decided to stay with us at last! Thank you for your positive review and we are glad you were happy with all aspects except one. In regards to the beds we've always had the same length beds which have been fine over the years for everyone apart from exceptionally tall people. Of course we cant just go and replace all of our beds but we will review the lengths of our beds in due course when we start on the next tranche of bed replacements. Kind regards Chris Hall General Manager

This review is in relation to afternoon tea only. Overall, our afternoon tea experience was fantastic. Of course little in life is perfect, and there are some aspects of our experience that could be improved upon. But considering the cost of afternoon tea at this venue, passing criticism would not be fair. We thought that the food and service represented excellent value. It’s not five star but nor is the bill. The setting is pleasant ( the grounds even nicer) and the tea items plentiful, fresh and tasty. The staff were all polite and we felt that we were not rushed out at all even though we were still sitting enjoying our tea when other guests were arriving for dinner! The staff appeared to be more than happy to replenish our sandwiches on request! Hotel manager- one small observation if I’m being really picky - the teapots are a little dated and newer daintier ones may elevate the ambiance.

This is the second afternoon tea I’ve had at West Lodge Park, just as good as before, and from the number of people in the garden it’s a very popular experience. At £24 it’s great value, especially for the quality of what is provided and there were extra sandwiches as well. All served in a friendly efficient way in a beautiful setting. Why anyone would want to go to central London and pay probably three time the price for the same is beyond me! Look forward to doing it agin soon.

Have stayed at this hotel once before years ago & also been to several family functions there .Have always been impressed.
Booked 2 nights to see family who I hadn't seen since before the pandemic. We were lucky with the weather so we're able to sit outside in a large table to have drinks .What beautiful surroundings & excellent service .Tbe meal we had in the evening was also good .
We stayed in part of the Hadley Suite so there was plenty of room .It was very hot but so was everywhere ! There was a small fan in the room & complimentary water as well as tea making facilties & a coffee machine - delicious !
Enjoyed our 2 nights stay & the food on both nights .Everything was perfect .Will certainly be back to visit my Barnet family & friends .
Thank you .

A rough diamond. Beautiful grounds. The place perse is very nice overall but would need a little freshening up in some areas. Very polite staff. The choice of teas is excellent. The sandwiches weren’t bad at all. The mini quiche was bland and tasteless. Pleasing to see the scones were homemade albeit the flavour of baking soda was too prominent. The cakes were very pleasant. Price per person was very reasonable. If they could polish up in a few areas, this place could compete on a par with some of the most famous High Tea places in central London that charge two or three times as much. Five stars for effort.

Stayed as a couple for 1 night dinner, bed & breakfast in room 4. Setting is superb, room spacious and clean. Evening meal was very disappointing. Despite being only one other table occupied in the restaurant we had to wait an age for our starter which was just a basket of breads. When they came they were too hot to pick up. Before we had finished them our main course arrived. I had steak, my wife had chicken. They were just warm enough to eat and the side order of potato gratin never came. When a waiter eventually appeared we chased it up and it arrived as the meal was virtually finished and it was undercooked and inedible. Waiter just said sorry. Plus point was that the desserts were superb. Next morning when taking a shower, the water was boiling hot and the temperature could not be altered no matter how much the dial was turned. Had to leave the shower as it was too hot to stand under and tried the bath. The water was also too hot from both the hot and the cold taps so had to go without. Had to have breakfast without washing properly. We took breakfast at 8am and it was buffet style. I would suggest that the bacon had been there since 7am as it was dry and crucified. Other than the egg that was fried on request, the other items were once again just luke warm. Returning to our room to pack, the issue with the taps appeared to have been resolved but it was too late by then for us to shower. Reported it to receptionist on departure who just said they would get maintenance to look at it. Do not consider that the experience was worth the £210 we paid and very disappointed that nobody seemed the least bit bothered that our stay was not an enjoyable one.

Dear Chris L, I would like to address your comment, please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to follow up on any aspect. As I am sure you are aware TripAdvisor is sometimes utilised by people with an agenda rather than just an impartial & balanced review. Mr Beale is very passionate about the family business and when a very small minority of people post visible online reviews that are embellished or part truths it can be incredibly frustrating and personal. I can assure everyone that we do take on board all comments and where we feel we need to act to make improvements we do so. We believe that generally we offer a good level of service but acknowledge that we do make mistakes as in any business. We are very happy to discuss feedback with anyone if they are disappointed with any aspect of their visit and I would encourage people to contact me in the first instance if that is the case. Kind regards Chris Hall General Manager
